ABOUT THE LISBON COAST

The Lisbon Coast is a sensational stretch of golden beaches, wave-lashed cliffs and vibrant seaside towns – but there's more to the Atlantic coastline than that. Delve beneath the surface to discover hidden coves, family-owned seafood restaurants and pristine natural parks.

The coast around Lisbon provides an easy, breezy escape from the capital, whose proximity has made it the stomping ground of kings for the last 1,000 years. In summer, Lisboistas stream into elegant Comporta and Cascais to escape the heat of the city; year-round, surfers hang loose on the coast, waiting for the rollers to crash down on the sand.

But while you're enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Lisbon Coast, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we've put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Villa Denari is ideal for a family holiday. With five bedrooms and two extra beds on the mezzanine, it would suite a multi-generational family or perhaps two families.

The beaches, including the nearby Fonte da Telha Beach, are amazing. The beaches on the northern section of this wonderful coastline are busier with watersports and cafes. Children enjoy Mata Beach where surf equipment can be hired. This coastline is a wonderful location to learn to surf, kitesurf, paddle board or body board as there is so much more space than on the Cascais to Estoril coastline. Two excellent surf schools are Time to Surf and Kevolution Surf but there are many.

In Lisbon, children love visiting the famous Oceanarium, riding on the colourful trams and visiting Lisbon zoo. The Portuguese have a very family-focused culture so young children are welcome everywhere. The Oceanarium was opened in 1998 in the Parque das Nacoes. It boasts a huge collection of marine species including penguins, seagulls, sea otters, sharks, rays, chimaeras, sea horses, starfish, sea urchins, corals, sea anemones, crustacians, octopuses, jelly fish and much more. Lisbon Zoo is popular with sumatran tigers, lions, giraffes, dolphins, birds, pelicans, reptiles and elephants. There is a children’s petting and feeding farm and a fun cable car. On a rainy day KidZania is a child-sized city where children can play at being grown-ups trying out different occupations earning money to spend in the supermarket, renting a car or treating themselves to a haircut. Lisbon is famously built on seven hills which give wonderful views. The number 28 tram makes thrillingly steep ascents and descents as it passes through the different neighbourhoods and past historic sights such as the Cathedral and Basilica de Estrela.

Children will feel like little princes or princesses at the picturesque UNESCO World Heritage town of Sintra which can be reached by train from Lisbon if you decide not to take the car. Brightly hued palaces and castles sit amongst the forest at the foothills of the Sintra Mountains. The lovely cobbled streets are lined with ice cream parlours and cafes. You really should try and visit!

Reviews

  • Nice House

    on 09/08/2020

The house is very large but the kitchen is dated. The pool is good and there is space for children to play. I saw in previous comments people complaining about the noise from the neighbours' dogs. It's true that there are dogs and they do make a bit of noise but it didn't bother me too much.

  • Fantastic

    on 26/07/2020

    Everything impeccable!

  • Great

    on 27/08/2019

Property was great for what we needed.

  • Excellent Service and perfect for two families

    on 06/08/2019

he house is perfect for 2 families and 7-8 children. Enough space to have different activities, play, read, rest, ... Although we found two problems with the washing machine and toaster, they replaced them instantly. Their team supported us with a high level of service, looking for creative solutions to solve some requests. The only little problem is one neighbor, whose dogs, cats, chickens and other animals made noise from 7 am. A pleasant stay to recommend.

  • Superb Easter holidays

    on 22/04/2019

We had an excellent stay in this beautiful villa, which was spacious, clean, well equipped and completely adapted for our 2 families. The only downside was that access was sometimes difficult due to the major road works in the town.

  • Perfect Holidays

    on 21/08/2018

Very comfortable villa. Close to a massive sandy beach, perfecr for family holidays. We will defenetly come back!

  • Lovely sunny spot

    on 20/06/2017

Lovely sunny spot, easy check in, excellent pool, well equipped house. The kitchen had all things you'd need, dishwasher is always nice with a large group. We were a group of 9 23-25 year olds. The location is near to the beach and Lidl/Aldi (excellent for keeping the holiday cheap) but both require a car. If you have a car as we did, it's an excellent location to both be able to have a beach holiday and see a nice city too.
