Overview
This traditional stone cottage seamlessly blends heritage design with modern interiors - the result is a calm haven to come home to after a busy day exploring Galicia. There is a large curved aquamarine private pool that is bound to be popular with the whole family, surrounded by a spacious, lush garden. Perfect for a refreshing dip in the sunshine.
Plants and trees are dotted around the villa, which is nestled in a quiet village. Outside, there is table tennis and a basketball court, as well as an expansive lawn that surrounds the house where the whole family can play and relax together.
Indoors, there is an open-plan living space decorated in a chic, contemporary style, with black leather sofas and tiled floors. Glass sliding doors allow everyone to move in and out with ease and brightens up the space with natural light. In the living room, the walls are mauve with a patterned feature wall where the television is mounted. Floral canvas art decorates the walls, while cushions add a splash of colour to the room. Other areas in the open-plan living space are painted rust red and buttermilk, which adds a stylish colour-blocking twist.
One of the most striking areas of the cottage is the kitchen, which is decked out in high-shine red, with a huge breakfast bar that doubles as preparation space. The kitchen is fully equipped and even has a dishwasher, so this villa has got you covered in terms of self-catering. Guests can dine indoors around the wooden table with matching sleek black leather chairs, or out on the terrace at the informal wooden bench, overlooking the garden. There is also a barbecue, for alfresco cooking enthusiasts.
The four simple yet sophisticated bedrooms have either double or twin beds, with crisp linen and patterned blankets. Vintage-style wooden furniture pops against the muted mauve walls. Collage-style canvas art and wooden sculptures jazz up the space. There are televisions in the bedrooms, perfect for downtime.
Two extra beds are available and a sofa can also be turned into a bed. Bathrooms at this property either have a bathtub or a modern shower, decorated in peach tones and tiles.

Location
About the surrounding area of Casa MejillonesThis cottage is beautifully located in a village called Eirapedriña, tucked away within the countryside yet just 4km from the charming town of Santiago de Compostela and 30 minutes from Rias Biaxas on the coast. Around the villa there is a shop 500m away and a restaurant 2km away.
Santiago de Compostela is famous for being the end destination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. You could join the final leg of the journey to reach the site, which is one of the most important places for Catholics. The pilgrim's reward is the Cathedral, which was built in the 1300s in a Romanesque style.
For a small fee you can climb to the top for an unrivalled view over the city.
This stunning place of worship is understood to be the final resting place of St. James. A trip to Santiago de Compostela would not be complete without a visit here - make sure you check out the High Altar and the magnificent Portico de la Gloria, the entrance gate. It is inlaid with breathtaking sculptures. In front of the cathedral, there is a square called Plaza do Obradruro that is also beautiful and marks the start of the UNESCO-listed Casco Antiguo.
Also known as the Old Town, these charming cobblestoned streets are lined with cafes, boutiques and restaurants. Great for a stroll and some people watching, the Casco Antiguo is mostly pedestrianised. In town, try some of the region's famous fresh seafood, such as the octopus stew and head to a bakery to sample a Torta de Santiago, a cake made with ground almonds and dusted with icing sugar.
For an oasis of calm within all the chaos, head to Alameda Park, an open green space where you can enjoy a picnic and admire the view of the Cathedral.
Anyone interested in art should visit the Galician Contemporary Art Centre. It has a range of permanent and temporary exhibitions of work by Galician artists from the 20th century to the present day. The exhibition hall is also a beautiful modern building designed to flood with light - there's also a terrace on the roof with great views.
Beaches are further afield in other parts of Galicia - so make a day trip to the most picturesque beaches in the area - the Cies islands. The city of Vigo is one hour away by car, from there you can take a ferry to the islands. Part of Galicia National Park, the Cies islands of Monteagudo, Faro and San Marino are only accessible by boat. Only a limited number of people can visit the islands each day for conservation reasons, so booking ahead is recommended. The most famous beach is Rodas, but there are several other dazzling shorelines to explore. You can also go hiking and camp overnight on the islands.

About the Region & Getting There
About Galicia
Like many parts of Spain, Galicia has its very own identity that has remained intact through its regional dialect and distinguishing culture. Although Galicia is recognised for its holy traditions, we urge budding tourists to also consider its astonishing green countryside & rivers and its UNESCO World Heritage sites. Occasionally you may even hear the gentle tootling of bagpipes, known locally as the Galician Gaita, along this northern corner of the Iberian Peninsula.
You're likely to fly into Santiago de Compostela, which is the capital of Galicia and is probably best known for the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage and its route. Many of the travellers embark on this journey by foot and tend to be mesmerised by this fine city at the end of their trek. Casco Viejo, or the Old Town, is a good place to end or even start your holiday. This area of the city is blessed with markets, restaurants, bars and buildings from a bygone era. After exhausting yourself in the busyness of the city, take a day trip to Praia de Rodas, on the gorgeous Cíes Islands. These small islands, accessible by boat from Vigo, Baiona, or Cangas, have been noted as having some of the best beaches in the world. It has to be seen to be believed!
Galicia is divided into four key regions: A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and our favourite – Pontevedra. A Galician proverb states that 'Pontevedra gives water to travellers'. We firmly believe this to be true, as this particular part of Galicia has everything a traveller could need for an unforgettable experience and it almost feels like this city is constantly giving back. Whilst you holiday in Pontevedra you will realise that days are structured around mealtime. And why wouldn't they be? With some of the best seafood you will experience in Spain and the noteworthy Albariño wine, you may notice your jeans feeling a little tighter toward the end of your holiday. You will be glad to know that your waistline need not be a cause for concern though! Pontevedra is blessed with some of the best hiking trails, medieval monasteries, estuaries, and valleys within Spain. Don't forget about the coastline either! Rarely you will you find so many empty beaches, so make the most of this privacy and just embrace the nature around you.
Galicia is still an unspoilt part of the world. It has everything a diverse group of friends & family need to have a glorious adventure.
Getting There
Galicia is served by either Santiago de Compostela Airport, A Coruña Airport, or Vigo Airport. Various train lines connect the main cities and towns of Galicia to other destinations in Northern and Central Spain. Hop on and enjoy the view from your comfy seat; there's even a Galician Tourist Train pass! This discounted rail pass gives you access to various rail routes created by the Galician Regional Government and based on key elements of the region. Follow the Lighthouse Route along the northern coastline and stop to admire the lighthouses and gorgeous sea views, or hop on and follow one of the Ribeira Sacra Wine Routes to visit the lovely towns and wineries where acclaimed Galician wines are made and enjoyed. Check out the government website to grab your pass and plan your trip!
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London with easyJet, Ryanair, Vueling, and many others. Although, travellers should be aware that Vigo Airport only receives domestic flights, so a stopover is needed if you wish to travel to this airport. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThis villa is ideal for families travelling with children - they get all the garden space they could want to play in and the private pool is perfect for kids in search of water-based fun. There's enough space for them to swim and play happily here. They can also have fun playing table tennis outside. The quiet village setting is perfect for kids to enjoy some downtime.
In Santiago de Compostela, a great way for kids to take in the sights is by the tourist train - it's much more likely to keep them engaged than walking around for a long time. You can get on and off at different historical sites and parks and see a lot from the comfort of the train. The train passes through San Francisco and along the Old Town. Children will enjoy going up the cathedral to the viewpoint over the town.
Alameda Park is a lovely spot for lunch with kids, where they can roam free and enjoy the view. Kids will love visiting Las Marias, a statue that was built to commemorate two ladies in the 1950’s and 60’s who would walk through the park at exactly 2:00 p.m. every day, wearing outlandish clothes and make up and chatting to the university students.
Children of all ages will enjoy strolling through the Old Town, popping into little shops and cafes. Try some churros with chocolate - a decadent treat popular in Galicia. They'll love imagining what Santiago de Compostela was like years ago.
For kids eager for a beach day, they will love a trip to the Cies islands and its superb white sandy beaches and crystalline water. These are the beaches that you see on postcards - the islands are very family friendly and peaceful. There are also beaches in Vigo with water sports such as O Vao and Samil beach, which has a roller-skating rink and a lively, fun atmosphere.

We had a wonderful time at Villa Mejillones
We had a wonderful time at Villa Mejillones. The hosts were helpful and informative, and the place is well equipped for a comfortable, relaxing stay with spacious rooms. The pool is good and well-maintained, the views are calming and the area is tranquil. It is situated in a great location for exploring the beautiful, Galician countryside.

Beautiful, warm and intimate home
This is such a beautiful, warm and intimate home to stay in. It was perfect for our family of four and could have easily accommodated an additional four. The hosts communicated thoughtfully and were very kind. The home was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The master shower was fantastic! The pool was fun and I appreciated the locking fence to keep my little one out when we weren't using it. I loved driving to the local market to purchase my groceries and cook dinner for my family in the great kitchen and also on the outdoor barbecue. We will definitely plan to return to this home in a few years!
