A spacious, welcoming villa that combines modern conveniences with traditional Portuguese architecture, Villa Martagao is located in the historic village of Estoi in the Algarve region.
The home away from home is nestled in the Portuguese countryside, offering fantastic views of the surrounding landscape. Faro - and the international airport - are just a short drive away, making it the perfect base from which to explore this exquisite area.
Having recently undergone major renovations, the design of Villa Martagao pays homage to its original Algarvian roots. Outside, terracotta Santa Catarina tiles - handmade in the region - adorn the swimming pool, while inside, guests will find touches of the villa’s long-standing charm alongside up-to-date amenities.
The property can sleep up to 14 people and has six bedrooms, all with ensuites. Two of the rooms have Queen Beds, one with a soaker tub and private balcony overlooking the pool, and the other with a hydro massage shower. Two further rooms have a set of twin beds, both with rainfall showers and private balconies. There are double beds in two more rooms, which share a balcony. Finally, an additional two people can sleep in the games room, where there is a double sofa bed. Villa Martagao is well-suited for families with younger children too - the home has two baby cribs where your little ones can sleep.
Large groups will love the tranquil, free-flowing feel of Villa Martagao. The property has an open-plan living and dining room that is also connected to a fully equipped modern kitchen, ideal for entertaining. Step outside and make the most of the warm evenings in Estoi, on the terrace and BBQ area. An eye-catching fountain ties the pergola with its traditional roots, giving a nod to the villas original architecture.
No luxury villa would be complete without a private pool, and on that front Villa Martagao does not disappoint. Surrounded by loungers, the pool area is an ideal place for guests to sip on a drink while enjoying the Algarve sun. There’s also an outdoor sound system to add to this ultimate space of fun and relaxation.
Perhaps one of the most exciting attributes of Villa Martagao is the impressive game room. Kitted out in the latest entertainment technology, groups and families can unwind and chill out in comfy chairs, while younger kids will love the soft toys and child-friendly games. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa MartagaoDrive just 15 minutes inland from Faro and you’ll come across Estoi, a quaint hilltop village that offers unspoilt views of the surrounding countryside.
Complete with cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses and terracotta roofs, Estoi is the embodiment of classic Algarve living. While the village receives a healthy amount of tourists looking for a day trip from one of the nearby resort towns, Estoi still maintains a quiet charm that will appeal to holiday-goers seeking a more private retreat.
Villa Martagao is just a two minute’s drive from the village itself. Once you arrive, guests will be treated to beautiful panoramic views of the hills and ocean - the property entices visitors to rest and enjoy the peaceful, serene location.
Estoi itself is mostly known for its two major attractions - the Palacio de Estoi and the Roman Villa of Milreu.
The Palacio is just a short walk from the main village square in Estoi and is a 19th century, recently renovated palace, with the pink Rococo facade now restored to its former glory. Spend some time in the two elegant tea rooms, then peruse the statues of the French-inspired gardens.
Also close by (just a 15-minute walk) is the Roman Villa of Milreu. Here you’ll see the well-preserved ruins of a Roman villa complex, dating all the way back to 2 AD. Marvel at the mosaics, which were once part of a bathhouse, and explore the history of the area.
While Estoi is best suited for people-watching outside local cafes and immersing yourself in a slower-paced life, there’s also plenty to see and do nearby. Just a quick drive away, and adventure-seekers will be more than entertained during their Algarve villa holiday.
Faro is an immediately obvious choice and is probably where you’ll fly into when staying at Villa Martagao. The capital of the Algarve region is not short of spectacular religious buildings and cultural sites, ideal for history buffs. The Gothic cathedral sits in the heart of the Old Town and is a stunning place to begin your trip to the city. Close by is the macabre bone chapel, which is lined with the bones of over 1,000 monks...hence the name!
For arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve, head south from Faro to Ilha Deserta, a 7km long sandbank that has just a single restaurant in terms of infrastructure. The isolated geography of the island gives it a paradise-like feel, with the beach being in a pristine, immaculate condition too.
Take a day trip to nearby Olhão, the Algarve’s busiest fishing port, for all your foodie and shopping needs. The delicious seafood is what draws in the crowds here, particularly along the famed Avenida da República, and the harbourfront market is a great place to grab a local bargain.

THE REGION
Estoi is a fascinating little town hidden away a few kilometres from the Algarve coastline. It makes for a perfect home base while exploring the region, although there is not much going on in the village itself.
Estoi is simple and picturesque, with cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and terracotta roofs. You can begin your exploration of the region’s history right here with the Palácio de Estoi, an exquisite rose-coloured rococo palace which is open to the public and nowadays run as a hotel.
Close by there are also the ruins of a Roman villa dating all the way back to the 2nd century AD. But most of what you’ll be doing in the village of Estoi is relaxing and looking on as local life goes around you, as well as travelling to explore the Algarve on your own terms.

But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesTravelling to the Algarve as a family? There’s so much for the kids to see and do near to Villa Martagao and the village of Estoi.
Villa Martagao is designed with kids in mind, containing a well-equipped playroom and a large pool with games. You certainly won’t need to worry about keeping them entertained while inside the villa, as if this wasn’t enough, every bedroom also features a smart TV. The property has very handily provided a children’s highchair and two cribs as well, making the practical side of travelling to the Algarve with babies and toddlers even easier.
The region has three waterparks to choose from - Aquashow, Slide & Splash, or Aqualand - and is the ultimate way to beat the summer heat. Kids will love the tons of water slides, rides, and other fun attractions. Pack a picnic to enjoy a proper family day out.
Exploring the region’s coastline by boat is another great child-friendly activity. Dolphins are common in this part of the Atlantic Ocean, so you may even spot a few of them jumping as you sail across the calm seas. Many of the boat trips will also take you to the caves and secluded beaches along the Algarve, offering a fun yet tranquil experience.
If your little ones are animal lovers, they’re in for a treat. The region boasts lots of animal-centered activities, including the Lagos Zoo, Krazy World Farm, and Zoomarine, a theme park that also hosts animal shows and offers the chance to swim with dolphins.
Water babies will be able to take advantage of the gentle waves of the Algarve coast. Whether they’re confident in the ocean or looking to try out a new experience, the range of water sports in the area is second to none. Choose from kayaking/canoeing, windsurfing, paddleboarding, surfing, or even jet skiing. The only problem you’ll have is getting them to come out of the water!
The Ria Formosa Natural Park also makes for a fantastic family-friendly day trip, thanks to the varied landscape and choice of activities at the attraction. The national reserve is great for birdwatching, beachcombing, and some of those previously mentioned water sports too. The 170sq km area is a magical maze of canals, barrier islands and marshes.

| End of stay cleaning included? | Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit. |

For a six-day yoga/wellness retreat, I can't think of a better place. If I could give more stars, I would! Villa Martagao is such a warm, beautiful, luxurious, and relaxing abode! The bedrooms are large, individually controlled temperature and private bathrooms. The spacious pool area is everything you want it to be. Enough great things can't be said about this wonderful location!

Most beautiful holiday and never wanted to leave the Villa. We had so much fun at Villa Martagao. Between the game room, pool, and big kitchen we had such a fun and relaxing stay. Andre was incredibly helpful and reliable. Communication with the team couldn't have been better.

A beautiful Villa in a beautiful area! Estoi, Faro, Loule, the whole Algarve is beautiful. The Villa is big with plenty of space - group activities and alone time. The heated pool is perfect. The property manager is a great host, extremely kind and flexible. I would love to stay here again.

A wonderfully kitted out villa
A wonderfully kitted out villa with turndown service too. Great pool and a fantastic BBQ and pizza oven. It could use some new shade around the pool area as the umbrellas had a habitat of blowing over in the wind.

This is a beautiful modern and spacious villa. It is very well equipped and has full air conditioning throughout. All bedrooms are stylish with ensuite bathrooms. The beautiful kitchen lacked nothing and along with the outside BBQ enabled us to prepare many meals. A large swimming pool with plenty of sunbeds provided a focal point for the long hot days, while the games room injected some variety for the younger guests. Cleaners came regularly and were unobtrusive. Andre was always close at hand when we needed any help. The online booklet was a great idea too, really informative and useful throughout our stay. A car would be essential due to the location and there are loads of parking spaces provided on site. We stayed for 3 weeks and all adjusted well to the relaxed lifestyle of the Algarve! Can't wait to come again!

This property is AMAZING! We booked this as a big family holiday trip for my mum's 70th. 12 of us stayed and all rooms are large with balconies and air conditioning and private bathrooms. the owners send a very helpful app with all the information you will need about the house/area with an interactive map we found so useful! Each room was super clean with toiletries and towels for shower/pool. The proeprty manager is on site sometimes to assist with anything and is super helpful and friendly! The kitchen is the most fully equipped best kitchen you can imagine, there are so many dining areas we had a big BBQ under the pergola and lunch every day on the terrace. We had some bad weather and ate at the most incredible dining table inside. Every room has smart TV. The pool is wonderful. We visited Vilamoura marina which is 25 mins away and we loved the restaurants here and we went to Tavira for the day! Very worth getting a hire car or use Uber as very easy. Honestly can't recommend this villa enough, we will be back!
