Overview
The expansive estate nestled in northern’s Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region provides the most idyllic backdrop for Il Mosacio. Enveloped by a lush private garden full of trees and aromatic botanicals, the villa’s serene location offers breathtaking views over olive groves and sun-kissed vineyards.
Set in its own resort-village where all the luxuries of a five-star hotel are at your fingertips, Il Mosacio belongs to a cluster of five villas, tucked away in Bologna’s rolling hills and verdant landscape. Although you might never want to leave the far-reaching oasis, it’s the perfect place to explore Emilia-Romagna’s historic cities, ancient ruins, culture and gastronomy.
The villa has been lovingly renovated into a comfortable country home with respect to its original character and rustic charm. The indoor layout is so spacious and full of light, it almost feels like never leaving the outdoors. Each of the five bedrooms is modern and finished to luxurious standards with neutral décor, while the comfortable living spaces combine elements of both old and new. Follow the charming wooden staircase upstairs to discover deluxe rooms, master bedroom with a walk-in shower and marble en-suite bathrooms. Bookworms will love to curl up on the sofa in one of the two living spaces with a book from the villa’s two-storey library which elegantly connects both floors.
After a refreshing dip in the private pool, the romantic conservatory will allow you to watch the sun slip behind the horizon as you sip on afternoon tea. Alternatively, you can stroll around the garden and admire the oak trees, botanical terrace and, depending on the season, even lilac wisterias sprouting up the villa’s rustic walls.
When you decide upon a change of scenery, the estate provides endless facilities to keep you entertained. Opt for some pampering time in the form of an aromatic massage at the spa or enjoy traditional Italian fare such as mortadella and fresh egg pasta alongside refreshing aperitifs in one of the on-site restaurants. Sports enthusiasts can keep up with their workout routine in the modern gym or practice tennis, squash and basketball.
Some of Italy’s most characterful cities are also just beyond your doorstep, while the nearest village is only a 5-minutes drive away, ideal for stocking up on traditional Italian produce, buying souvenirs and people watching while sipping on espressos like the locals.
The closest city, Bologna, offers a fun option for a day out spent exploring. Stroll around its cobbled streets while visiting shops and cafés along the way and stopping to admire the famed university building. Modena – known for its balsamic vinegar - and seaside Marina di Ravenna and Cesenatico are also within an hour’s drive away.

Location
About the surrounding area of Il MosaicoIl Mosaico is ideally located in the verdant countryside on the outskirts of Bologna. Surrounded by the woodlands, olive groves, valleys and vineyards of a huge private estate, all it takes is stepping outside the villa’s front door to discover Emilia-Romagna’s beauty.
Enjoy a number of wellness trails in the private park, with scenic views that will allow you to see the two artificial lakes specifically designed to irrigate the estate’s greenery. Alternatively, rent city or mountain bikes to better explore the area and visit the estate’s private Hortus Conclusus – a garden and orchard full of colourful fruit trees as well as goji and almond plantations.
When you get hungry, there isn’t a better way to refuel than in one of the estate’s four restaurants serving delicious local cuisine in a stylish setting and with picturesque views. For more amenities, head to the closest village, located only a 5-minute drive away.
The immediate area is well known for its thermal baths and Castel San Pietro Terme, situated a 10-minute drive away, boasts a popular spa facility with healing pools with waters springing from the Fegatella Spring.
Just over 20 minutes’ drive away, the mediaeval village of Dozza belongs to one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and boasts an ancient Sforza fortress alongside artistic murals decorating the city.
In just 30 minutes, you can reach the bustling city of Bologna. The university city is also the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region and is famous for its towers, churches and well-preserved historical centre. Having acquired many nicknames referring to its traditionally indulgent delicacies such as egg pasta, butter and Parmesan cheese, it is the place to discover the region’s rich gastronomy.
If you long for some saltwater breeze, then Marina di Ravenna and Cesenatico on the east coast are both an hour away and boast a sandy beach, prestigious seafood restaurants and plenty of sunshine. The seaside resorts also host annual festivals and all-night parties under the twinkling, starry sky.
History lovers and romantic souls might want to explore Florence for its renaissance architecture and old town centre which belongs to one of UNESCO’S World Heritage Sites. Located two hours away, it’s bursting at its seams with galleries, museums and chic boutiques. The beautiful Venice is also within close reach. Built on a group of 118 small islands and featuring 400 bridges, walking around its water-level streets and sailing through the network of canals on a traditional Venetian gondola is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThanks to the estate’s convenient position, there are plenty of joyful activities for children to be found in the region’s bustling cities. Notably Bologna is home to the Carpigiani Museum, named after the world leader manufacturer of gelato machines. Here, your little sweet tooth can find out about how ice cream is made and taste a variety of exciting flavours.
Aspiring vets and zoologists might prefer getting to know all the animals at the Dulcamara petting farm, located only a 30-minute drive from the centre. A great way to encourage teenagers and fidgety preschoolers to learn about Bologna’s history is to visit Museo della Storia di Bologna, an interactive museum with cool elements that’s easily reachable by foot.
On sun-drenched days, plan a day trip to one of Emilia-Romagna’s sparkling seaside resorts instead, both located an hour away. Notably Marina di Ravenna has a wide sandy beach superb for swimming, building sandcastles and playing water games such as the famous racchettoni beach tennis. To escape the lunchtime heat, they’ll love walking along the wooden walkway network or watch boats come and go at the port before refuelling with a slice of pizza from the nearby restaurants.
Cesenatico is also only a short drive away and attracts families with children thanks to its Parco Acquatico Atlantica Cesenaticowater park with plenty of colourful slides and pools.
