This Earth Day, join our mission to plant 3 trees for every booking made between April 22nd - 28th, 2024. Let's make a sustainable impact together! Learn more about our journey here >>

Mirabeau truly captures the romance of Aix-en-Provence with its historic beauty and perfect setting in the old town, just a short stroll away from Fontaine de la Rotonde and Cours Mirabeau.

The Aixois charm can be found throughout this historic apartment – just step through the entrance into the grand reception room and admire the gorgeous flooring, ornate ceiling, majestic furnishings and historic artwork. The two bedrooms are full of character, one with traditional French windows opening up to a Juliet-style balcony whilst the smaller double features impressive décor. Beneath the incredible ceilings, find a mezzanine level with space for a further two guests allowing this apartment in Aix-en-Provence to sleep up to six people.

A traditional and well-equipped kitchen means you can shop to your heart’s content at Aix-en-Provence’s markets and prepare Provençal feasts without venturing far. That said, you have such a range of cafes, restaurants and wine-bars just a few steps from the front door; located on a bustling lane in the pedestrianised old quarter, you really are in the historic centre of Aix-en-Provence.

Indeed, the iconic tree-lined Cours Mirabeau is a mere 200m away with Fontaine de la Rotonde just a little further. Follow Cézanne’s footsteps as you visit his atelier just north of the town and wander up to the Terrain des Peintres where you can gaze out towards Montagne Sainte-Victoire and the landscapes that have inspired so many artists over the years.

Soak up the charm of Aix-en-Provence with its Baroque architecture, pretty fountains, gorgeous café terraces and inviting shops. You can spend days exploring its galleries, museums and parks yet if you wish to venture further afield then head to picture-perfect villages in the Luberon such as Lourmarin and Ansouis, two of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and Cucuron with its gorgeous bassin and Michelin starred restaurant.

Visit wine châteaux and beautiful vineyards, some producing the finest rosé in Provence, or drive down to the coast to enjoy lunch out in the picturesque seaside village of Cassis, the gateway to the Calanques National Park.

You could even hop on a train down to Marseille, such a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage, before returning to the allure of your historic apartment in the heart of Aix-en-Provence.

Mirabeau is an elegant apartment found in a historic building on a bustling lane in the centre of Aix-en-Provence.

There is a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants within a few steps of the main door whilst the iconic Cours Mirabeau, a tree-lined avenue with terrace cafes and shops, is around 200m on foot. Soak up the charming ambience as you stroll through the historic town, stop and gaze at nearby Fontaine de la Rotonde, watch children ride the Carrousel Paul Cézanne and admire the many fountains and beautiful Baroque architecture.

Cézanne’s former art studio is around a 20-minute walk to the north of the town and the tourist office can suggest a self-guided tour following Cézanne’s footsteps. The most energetic should wander up to Terrain des Peintres, the Field of the Painters, where you can gaze out towards Montagne Sainte-Victoire and landscapes that have inspired Cézanne and other artists over the years.

Away from the busy town centre, spend time in some of Aix-en-Provence’s green spaces such as Parc Jourdan, around 1km on foot, with its pretty flower garden and fountain, and Promenade de la Torse (2km), perfect for a summer picnic and stroll by the little river.

Enjoy day trips across this wonderful part of Provence, perhaps starting off in the Luberon with idyllic villages such as Cucuron, Lourmarin and Ansouis within a 40-minute drive, or head south to the idyllic seaside village of Cassis (53km) with its pretty restaurants, beaches, boat trips and stunning hiking trails through the Calanques National Park.

You can also take the train to the vibrant city of Marseille (31km), a melting pot of cultures, or catch an onwards connection towards Arles (75km) with its Roman heritage, an artistic town so loved by Van Gogh.

For another change of scene, Martigues (45km) by the Étang de Berre, is such an attractive place for a wonderful day out and there are numerous watersport opportunities by the lake. Perhaps combine with a trip to one of the picture-perfect harbour villages, bays and calanques west of Marseille around Carry-le-Rouet (40km) and Sausset-les-Pins (45km) – some of this coastline is accessible by train via Marseille Saint-Charles.

Kids

Best Suited For: Teens
Ideal for Teens

Families will love being able to stroll to shops, cafes and restaurants whether to fetch morning croissants and fresh bread or to enjoy meals out followed by an ice-cream in the evening.

As you wander around the historic town, look out for the beautiful fountains then take a ride on the iconic Carrousel Paul Cézanne. Children may also enjoy a tour of the city on the little road train which leaves from the tourist office.

There is plenty of green space in and around Aix. Parc Jourdan is home to a couple of playgrounds and is a pleasant spot for a picnic whilst Parc Saint-Mitre may be a better option for older kids with its huge climbing frame. Just outside the town, teens may enjoy a trip to Indian Forest with tree-top trails suitable for a variety of ages including evening sessions in the height of the summer.

If you feel like a day by the coast, head to Cassis for pretty little bays and watersports or find other beautiful beaches west of Marseille towards Plage du Verdon. The coastline around the Étang de Berre is also great for families with summer water-based activities, the attractive towns of Martigues and Istres, the large Parc de Figuerolles and other family attractions.
