Overview
In a landscape of rolling farmland, backed by the rugged limestone peaks of the Alpilles, you will find Mas Aurelie. This traditional farmhouse, sitting in an acre of beautiful gardens is the perfect place to escape the stresses of day-to-day life and to unwind with your loved ones. Sleeping 6-8 guests, this home would suit those travelling with family or a group of friends.
Making your way to Mas Aurelie, you will enter the expansive gated grounds filled with potted flowers, towering cypress trees and sweeping lawns. This pretty garden frames this traditional Provencal home beautifully. The villa itself is set over two floors and offers plenty of space for your party.
The house is an idyllic place to stay and is packed with historic features such as the pastel blue window shutters, ceiling beams and stone fireplaces, all of these details add charm to the home, giving guests an insight in to life here centuries ago.
On the ground floor of the house, there are numerous cosy living spaces. The first is the main living room which has comfy sofas and armchairs gathered around an open fireplace. The walls and surfaces are filled with pictures, vases of flowers and lamps which make the house feel warm and welcoming. If you would like to escape to read your favourite book or to watch a film in the evening, the smaller sitting room is a lovely little nook for this. Following on, you can cook up a storm in the country-style kitchen which is fitted with all you will need during your stay, or maybe you would prefer to completely relax and hire a private chef. Meals can be taken in the bright and airy dining room with beautiful antique furniture and doors on to the garden, or opt to dine al-fresco in the leafy garden.
Upstairs, the house has three inviting bedrooms which can be set up as double or twin rooms to suit the needs of your group. One of these rooms has an en-suite bathroom, while the other two share a bathroom with a bath for a long soak after a busy day. If you require more accommodation for guests, you can always utilise the sofa bed in the downstairs office room.
As the climate here is fantastic, you are sure to wish to spend much of your time outdoors, basking in the sun and listening to the birds chirping in the towering pine trees. The garden here has large lawned spaces, a covered dining terrace and a private swimming pool where you can cool down in the heat of the day. Next to the pool, there is a brilliant pool house with a summer kitchen so that you can cook meals to enjoy outdoors. Surrounding the garden, you can access a patchwork of fields and country walks on foot.
The nearest amenities to the home are set just 2km away in the centre of Maillane village. This charming village is like something out of a postcard and offers a range of eateries and attractions such as the museum and home of poet Frederic Mistal.
Maillane is also a great base for seeing more of Provence, such as the towns of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence which is 7km away and Tarascon which is 14km away.

Location
About the surrounding area of Mas AurelieMas Aurelie is a typically French home which is located in a landscape of olive groves, vineyards and farmland. From this peaceful base, you are well placed for spending lazy days pottering around the local parkland or taking day trips to some of Provence’s most iconic towns such as Saint-Rémy-de-Provence which is only 7km away.
The home sits in a rural setting on the outskirts of a sleepy village called Maillane where you will find the nearest amenities such as small shops and a selection of restaurants. Though the village is small, there a number of things you can see and do here; in the centre, you can see the historic water wheel, visit Saint Agatha Church and shop at the market which is held on a Thursday. From the village, you can also access hiking and walking trails which lead out in to the Regional Park of the Alpilles. The village of Maillane is best known, however, for its connection to the Nobel prize winning poet Frederic Mistal. In the village, visitors are able to see his home and a museum based on the poet’s life.
If you would like to visit a larger town in order to do some shopping or explore a wider range of restaurants, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is close by at just 7km away. This is a picturesque town with winding streets filled with street-side cafes and historic buildings. While here you are able to visit a number of attractions such as the impressive ruins of the Roman city of Glanum and the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole monastery which was once home to artist Vincent Van Gogh. Many visitors flock to the town in order to walk the streets and see the buildings which inspired over 100 of Van Gogh’s paintings. You can also visit a museum or take a guided tour relating to Van Gogh.
Aside from these wonderful towns and villages, this area of Province is packed with stunning outdoor spaces such as the Alpilles mountain range where you can walk and climb through the scenic surroundings. If you fancy a more challenging climb, you could head to Le Rocher des Deux Trous which translates as the rock with two holes, from the top you can take in unrivalled views. The starting point for the hike is 12km away from the house. If this sounds a little taxing, you can get to know the local surroundings by visiting family run vineyards or some of Provence’s iconic lavender fields.
