Experience the heart of Les Alpilles as you stay in this inviting Provençal villa with heated swimming pool where contemporary style contrasts perfectly with character and charm, only 10km from the famous village of Les Baux-de-Provence. With Mouriès to the south and Maussane-les-Alpilles to the west, this small rural hamlet is surrounded by endless olive groves and the undulating scenery of Les Alpilles.
An authentic farmhouse which has been recently renovated, Maison Khalifa sleeps up to six guests across its three air-conditioned bedrooms upstairs, each one with a queen-size double bed and modern en suite shower room, making it ideal for two or three couples or perhaps a small family.
Downstairs, passing the small lounge and striking open-sided staircase, stroll through to the traditional dining room with stylish furnishings beneath the wood-beamed ceiling and French doors opening out to the picturesque garden. The kitchen is beautiful, just perfect for creating feasts using the best local produce from nearby Provençal markets.
Relax beneath the shade of the pool house or swim in the pretty swimming pool as you gaze out to young cypresses, olive trees and the lovely garden around you. All of this and the charming village of Maussane-les-Alpilles, known for its olive oil, is merely 6km away by car with its bistros, café terraces, little shops and Thursday morning market.
Visit nearby Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, and drive up to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence for its Van Gogh trail, art galleries and Wednesday morning market. Admire the beauty of Les Alpilles on foot, bike or horseback, spend time in historic Arles and Avignon and venture to the villages of the Luberon for yet more captivating landscapes of Provence.

About the surrounding area of Maison KhalifaPart of the Alpilles Regional Nature Park, close to the charming villages of Maussane-les-Alpilles and Les Baux-de-Provence, Maison Khalifa is situated in a small rural hamlet around 35km from Avignon.
Follow the nearby country road for around 6km, passing endless olive trees and towering pines, and you will reach picturesque Maussane-les-Alpilles. It is such a pretty place to spend time with its inviting shops, bistros and Provençal ambience and the village produces some of France’s best olive oil from the surrounding groves. Discover the region’s gastronomic delights at the Thursday morning market or visit local farms, mills and vineyards to sample olive oil, honey, wine, cheeses and more.
Just a little further is Les Baux-de-Provence (10km), classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and home to Château des Baux. In a perched position with magnificent views, there are superb walking opportunities around the village as well as trails across Les Alpilles and beyond.
Wednesday morning is a good time to visit Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (15km) with its wonderful market, one of the largest in the area, or venture to the artistic town any day of the week to soak up its artistic ambience and follow Van Gogh’s footsteps, admiring places that inspired some of his greatest work.
Beyond Les Alpilles, spend time exploring the glorious landscapes of the Luberon with iconic villages such as Ménerbes, Gordes and Roussillon reached within an hour. Try the summer melons of Cavaillon (25km), a bustling town with a rich heritage, and potter around the antique stores of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (36km) which hosts a fantastic brocante market on a Sunday morning.
Avignon (35km) is another great day out with its UNESCO World Heritage sites and picturesque riverside setting whilst Nîmes (60km) is a must for history lovers with its beautifully preserved Roman sites. Then there’s Van Gogh’s beloved Arles (29km) and its incredible amphitheatre and also the gateway to the captivating landscapes of the Camargue.

Activities in Les Alpilles include gentle walks, challenging hikes, horse-riding, pony-trekking, cycling and rock-climbing. Around 40km away is Fontaine-de-Vaucluse where there are seasonal canoeing and kayaking opportunities as well as inflatables and small rides at Nestor Le Castor, a small amusement park usually open around summer weekends/holidays.
Closer to home, pick up a ‘treasure map’ from the tourist office to help you explore Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and admire the gorgeous views from Château des Baux. Close to the village, light shows projecting art onto quarry walls accompanied by music take place at Carrières de Lumières.
Pack a picnic and spend the day visiting the Pont du Gard, a UNESCO World Heritage site and another great spot for canoeing. Historic Avignon is also worthy of your time – if visiting with youngsters then look out for the little road train that tours the major sights.
