Pool Villa/House Great Value
Heritage Collection
Ideal for Kids

As soon as you step through the arched doorway of Mas Des Fleurs Sauvages you will be enchanted by the history all around you. Set between Agen and Moissac, this is one of the most beautiful parts of France and the views from the swimming pool and vast grounds are glorious.

Once a farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, the owners have lovingly restored and expanded this rustic home whilst retaining so many traditional features. Relax with family and friends in the historic lounge and prepare delicious meals in the modern kitchen to serve on an idyllic terrace outside.

The main house sleeps up to 10 guests across three bedrooms with king-size doubles (one also has a single bed) and a mezzanine level with three single beds above one of the bedrooms alongside two contemporary bathrooms, one wheelchair accessible. There is also the option to add a little rustic gite to your booking (subject to a supplement) for 2 adults and one child, also set within the estate.

Outside, be at one with nature as you gaze at the magnificent Dordogne vistas from the vast grounds with wildflowers, stone ruins and the heated swimming pool for warm summer days.

Just 3km is a delightful village with a boulangerie and grocery store, a couple of restaurants and a lovely Sunday morning market. Catch a glimpse of the 14th century frescoes in the village’s chapel and admire the splendour of the 12th century church.

Montignac is a short drive away for canoeing along the Vézère and visiting the fascinating Lascaux caves. In the other direction is the stunning town of Sarlat-la-Canéda so loved for its gastronomy and history – a true gem of the Périgord Noir.

Domme and La Roque Gageac can be reached in half an hour for yet more beautiful architecture as well as boat trips along the Dordogne whilst the likes of Château de Beynac and Château des Milandes are other fantastic trips out. If staying in July and August, pre-book a visit to Les Jardins de Marqueyssac on a Thursday evening when you can explore the gardens by candle-light, a truly special experience during your stay in the Périgord Noir.

Just a 20-minute drive north of Sarlat-la-Canéda, Mas Des Fleurs Sauvages is set in a small hamlet in the Dordogne, well located for visiting some of the region’s pre-historic sites of the Vézère valley alongside beautiful villages and towns. Fly into Brive–Souillac Airport (32km) or the nearest train station is Condat-Le Lardin (18km) with departures to Brive-la-Gaillarde (39km) for connections to Paris.

A picturesque village is a 3km drive away, home to a small supermarket, bakery, bar-tabac and a couple of restaurants as well as a Sunday morning market, an impressive 12th century church, castle ruins and a chapel with 14th century frescoes. It really is a charming place to spend time so close to your holiday home.

The nearest main town is Montignac-Lascaux (12km), an attractive historic town by the Vézère River which hosts a weekly market, also a good spot for summer canoeing and kayaking. The town is most famous for its close proximity to the fascinating Lascaux IV Centre International de l'Art Pariétal and its replica cave paintings, one of the Dordogne’s most popular attractions.

Saint-Amand-de-Coly (8km) is a worthy visit with its pretty lanes, old wash houses and tearoom – also look out for the atmospheric weekly evening market in the height of the summer. Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (15km) is another gem of the region, loved for its historic beauty and riverside setting (with more canoeing/kayaking). Both villages are officially classified as ‘Les Plus Beaux Villages de France’.

Sarlat-la-Canéda (16.5km) is a further highlight of this part of the Dordogne with its exquisite architecture, gastronomic restaurants and colourful markets – try local truffles, foie gras and other seasonal delicacies of the Périgord Noir.

Venturing south, you will soon reach the banks of the Dordogne with iconic riverside villages including La Roque-Gageac (30km) and Domme (29km) alongside grand châteaux overlooking the meandering river. If staying in the summer months, pre-book a visit to Les Jardins de Marqueyssac (27km) in the evening to explore the gorgeous gardens by candle-light.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Between Sarlat-la-Canéda and Montignac-Lascaux, this is a fantastic location for families. Canoe or kayak along the Vézère and Dordogne rivers, enjoy boat trips from La Roque-Gageac, visit grand châteaux so typical of the Périgord Noir and be fascinated by the Vézère valley’s pre-historic sites and replica cave paintings at nearby Lascaux. Return to your historic holiday home to make the most of the vast garden and cool off in the swimming pool followed by a game of table tennis.

There are plenty of other family attractions within a short drive. If you are seeking tree-top adventures, try I Feel Wood (20km) near Sarlat or Préhistobranche (16km) near Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, also home to Parc aux Dinosaures Dordogne. Animal lovers may enjoy a trip to Zoological Reserve Calviac (25km) close to the banks of the Dordogne River.

Meanwhile, Le Bugue (31km) is home to Aquarium Périgord Noir, Jungle Golf and an old-fashioned theme park, Le Parc Bournat.
