Overview
The old bones of this 14th century château in Midi-Pyrénées stand proudly on a hectare of green parkland. With sweeping views over the surrounding territory (known for sunflower and wine production), your guests will commune with this countryside on the edge of the Dordogne. Inside, simple furnishings let the château's character shine; stone walls, well-loved brick fireplaces, and mysterious spiral stairs suggest a storied past.
Up to 26 guests can spread out on the grounds here - they’ll especially love the swimming pool and barbecue area in the summertime. A separate apartment in the château lends extra privacy for a large family - it features its own kitchen and living area, and a dorm room with five single beds for the kids.
Just 8km away is Tournon-d'Agenais, a lovely 13th century village with a central square and charming stone arcades – make sure you try some of the delicious apple-based dessert 'tourtiere' during your visit.
One of France’s most beautiful villages, Pujols, is around half an hour away or spend time visiting the Malbec producing vineyards surrounding the gorgeous town of Cahors on the Lot river. Then there’s canoeing, biking and hiking through the Lot and Célé valleys, castle ruins and many enchanting bastide villages and market towns.
You may fly in through Bergerac, a hub of wine-related commerce for the Dordogne (and certainly worth a pause on your way to the château!).
What you should know…
- When booking for 12 or 15 guests please note that only certain rooms will be available. You will only have access all bedrooms when booking the 26-guest rate.

This is a historic home, and as such:
- It has probably been standing for over 100 years, which means it's full of historic value and charm but it may also have one or two quirks!
- Some of the decor and furnishings may not be brand new, but that should not detract from your holiday experience in this unique setting that allows you to take a step back in time!

Region
A relatively new addition to France, the Midi-Pyrénées was created to surround the cultural capital of Toulouse in the late 1970s. You might think that its relative youth would mean the Midi-Pyrénées is short on character or identity, but remember, this is France we’re talking about – the whole country is steeped in history and tradition. Encompassing parts of Gascony, Languedoc, the Gers and several others, you’ll get a varied slice of the whole French experience here, not least if you stay at one of our beautiful chateaux in the Midi-Pyrénées! And if you want to discover the best of what the region has to offer, our Midi-Pyrénées travel guide is here to show you where to go, what to eat and how you can make the best of your break with some amazing activities.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe Lot valley offers so many wonderful family activities from picturesque walks and riverside picnics to canoeing, horse-riding and cycling through the vineyards.
One way to admire the beautiful scenery of the Lot River is by taking a summer boat trip from either nearby Puy-l'Évêque or Cahors. Whilst in Cahors take a tour of the historic town by the little road train that operates in the summer months.
Water lovers also note the close proximity of Lac de Montcuq, about 14km away, where you will find a sandy beach, children’s play area, fishing opportunities and supervised swimming in the height of the summer.

Stunning rustic old castle, exceeded expectations
We rented Chateau D'Ax for a week in the summer for a large family holiday. This stunning rustic old castle was perfect for all of us and exceeded expectations, plenty of room, spectacular grounds and pool, very comfortable bedrooms. We were warmly welcomed by the owners, they were always available if we needed anything.

The best of old world charm and modern convenience
Steffi our host was a great communicator and very accomodating to our requests. The chateau was the perfect combination of old world rustic and contemporary comfort with a great kitchen and updated bathrooms. The may rooms maximize everyone's comfort and create many options for gathering as a group and for getting away on your own. If you have folks coming who like to do different kinds of day time adventures, I strongly recommend making sure you have your own vehicles.

Fantastic wedding venue
We had a fantastic stay at Chateau D'Ax. We had around 20 guests stay in the chateau and then another 30 over a two day wedding event. From the start, the owner was very engaged and keen to make sure our stay was exactly what we wanted. She was very easy to communicate with. We used all the amazing spaces around the chateau including the barn, stunning outdoor terrace and amazing swimming pool. All our guests still talk about how fantastic the setting was and we hope to visit again some day.

Once in a lifetime experience
Our stay at Chateau d'Ax was a once in a lifetime experience. The grounds are beautiful, every room is big, spacious, clean and luxurious. The kitchen is the best stocked I've ever seen and the apple orchard, outdoor dining spot and grounds (with local donkeys) are all beautiful.
The pool is large and is kept clean, tucked away in the hills for privacy.
The owner was always on hand to help, offer advice or ask questions. She is incredibly kind and patient and made our stay as comfortable as possible. We couldn't recommend her and the whole experience more.
Thanks so much for giving our group an incredibly special and wonderful week. -
Magical, beautiful, intimate, homely wedding!
Our time at the Chateau D'Ax was magical. Every guest commented on what a brilliant location we had to marry in, it was beautiful but somehow still felt very intimate and homely. The owner was hugely helpful whenever needed and the swimming pool was a huge bonus! I must say though, the highlight (outside of our wedding day) was the incredible spread she put together for us on the night before. It was absolutely delicious, immaculately presented and she was such a wonderful, smiling presence. It really felt like we were being greeted by friends at the chateau and we hope to return for all big anniversaries to come!
