The location of Villa Protaras is sublime. It is within walking distance of the centre of Protaras with its excellent range of bars, restaurants and shops along ‘The Strip’. The beaches in the area are some of the best in Cyprus, with Yianna Marie Beach being just 600m from the villa. There is a wonderful beachside restaurant with stunning views. The famous Fig Tree Bay is also within walking distance. The lone fig tree on the beach gives it its name. The beach is not only beautiful, but it is also very well organised with sun loungers, umbrellas, bars, restaurants and an incredible range of watersports. You will no doubt spend some wonderful days on this beach. If you want a change, though, you will not have to travel far to many family-friendly beaches, all with fine, glistening white sand often backed by fragrant pine trees and some with caves to explore.

Away from the beaches, Cyprus boasts an astonishing interior with wildflower meadows, dense vineyards, majestic pine-clad mountains, ancient churches and monasteries and a party scene to rival other party islands. There is also a fantastic range of dining opportunities from delicious meze, traditional local meals to chic, gourmet offerings.

The area around Protaras is very scenic. There are various nature trails leading to other beaches, including Konnos, Lombardi and Louma Beaches. The area is fantastic for walking and cycling. You can also enjoy impressive hikes in the Troodos Mountains. There are some fabulous, charming villages such as Fikardou and Machairas that you will come across as well as amazing, panoramic views. The highest peak, Mount Olympus hosts the Sun Valley and North Face ski areas with five ski lifts. The area is popular for winter sports. You will love the freedom of the cool, pine-scented air and can visit lonely monasteries and painted Medieval churches. The south-facing foothills are draped in vineyards that offer amazing wine tours and tastings.

Perched on Cyprus’s stunning southeastern coastline, Protaras is a Mediterranean jewel boasting sky-blue seas, sun-soaked beaches, and laid-back touches of traditional charm. What is more, Protaras’ serrated coastline of coves and promontories means there is no shortage of shallow, serene bays that are ideal for families, swimming, and watersports.

The famed Fig Tree Bay, with its shallow, protected water and golden sands is the most popular beach, and regularly listed among the best in Europe. Named after the lone fig tree set amidst its pristine sands, this quaint inlet is a picturesque retreat for sunbathers and snorkelers alike, but it’s also only the beginning of Protaras’ delightful qualities.

If you’re looking for a slightly quieter spot to sunbathe and dip your toes in the calm, Mediterranean waters, make your way south across the Fig Tree Peninsula to find a series of bays, including Green Bay which is a laid-back and excellent spot for snorkeling where you might even be lucky enough to see a sea turtle!

But snorkeling only scratches the surface of Protaras’ spectacular coastline, as it is a haven for scuba divers of all levels of experience. The region boasts a number of fantastic dive sights including the Green Bay Caves, the wrecks of the Liberty and the Nemesis, and the wonderful submerged gallery of statues which is close enough to shore to be accessible to divers and snorkelers alike. But if getting your feet wet isn’t your bag, not to fear, the coastline is equally wonderful to explore on a private boat tour. Tours explore highlights such as Cape Greco, Konnos Bay and the lovely Blue Lagoon.

Anyone looking to put their hiking boots to good use will revel in Protaras’s sublime selection of hiking options, from the rugged Cape Greco National Park to the unique Paralimni Lake – a natural saltwater wetland area swamped with migratory birds including herons, ducks, and even pink flamingoes. Cape Grego National Park is well known for its breathtaking landscapes and boasts several hiking trails. What is more, the Park offers a bevy of swimming spots so make sure to bring your bathers.

Far from limited to natural wonders, Protaras is also a culinary adventure. The town’s tavernas are brimming with grilled halloumi and souvlaki, and serve as the perfect spots to sit and relax as twilight turns to evening and the strum of bouzouki music serenades the streets and promenades. But don’t get too comfortable, because the night won’t end there. Protaras has a lively nightlife which centres on The Strip where numerous bars and clubs are open until late into the night, offering plenty of music and entertainment to keep the party going.

With its splendid assortment of natural wonders from serene bays to rugged landscapes, and no shortage of activities, attractions, and alluring culinary delights, Protaras is a picturesque location for a perfect vacation whether you’re a young family or a group of firm friends.

Cyprus is very much a family-friendly destination. The culture on the island revolves around the extended family, so it is very easy to travel, relax and dine with children. As well as the fabulous beaches, there are ancient castles, historical sites, museums, funfairs, water parks, boat rides and parks to enjoy. The island’s virtual year-round sunshine makes it a very outdoors island. Active children will love the Troodos Mountains and hiking from beach to beach, following the nature trails. There's even a, very popular pirate-themed boat trip!

The wonderful Greek mythology themed water park, Waterworld Waterpark, has won many awards and is fabulous fun for the whole family. It boasts 25 rides and attractions, including whirlpools, a range of thrilling, competitive and fun slides, a wave pool, a gentle lazy river and excellent dining opportunities.
Extreme Park in Nicosia is great fun. It offers inflatable slides, a climbing wall, trampolines, bungee-trampolines and aero boards. It is about an hour away in the car.

Parko Paliatso Luna Park is always a hit with children. There are many traditional funfair rides and games such as bumper cars, carousels and a ghost train. The Slingshot is a high ejection-seat ride that shoots you 90m skyward in a caged ball. Maybe not everyone in your group will want to try that one! On a smaller scale, the Dolphins Luna Park at Ayia Napa is lovely for small children with lots of cartoon character rides, carousels, a play train, an indoor Disney room and other attractions.
