What you should know…

  • Lelia Apartment is set over two storeys, so maybe not suitable for those with mobility issues
  • If relaxation and picturesque walks are what holidays are about for you, Primosten is the perfect location - but be prepared to travel further afield if you’re interested in seeing more ‘sights’, shopping, or more general hustle and bustle.
  • Raduca beach is family-friendly with its shallow waters and promenade, but please be aware there is no lifeguard here.

Lelia Apartment is part of an exclusive holiday resort located along the most famous stretch of Croatia’s shimmering coastline - the Dalmatian Coast, in the picturesque fishing town of Primosten. Once an island separate from the mainland, this quaint, stone-paved town has plenty to offer those wanting a relaxing and peaceful holiday; from walks through the winding streets, marvelling at the beautiful architecture, to fine-dining and enjoying some local wine in one of its restaurants or bars.

Primosten’s famous Raduca beach is a must-see while you are here. A pebbled beach with clear, shallow waters, this is a popular destination for families with children - especially during the summer months when it’s not unusual to see attractions such as trampolines or bouncy castles set up here. The beach is backed by a promenade featuring all manner of ice-cream parlours, cafes, and shops selling local arts and crafts, so there’s always plenty to see and do in this sleepy little town.

Fine-dining is easy here thanks to the town’s fantastic restaurants, offering fresh seafood, steaks, and traditional Croatian cuisine. For those who are interested in sampling the local nightlife, the Bau Bar is THE place to go for after dinner drinks and cocktails, before heading along to Aurora, one of the region’s best known nightclubs, and one that regularly attracts top DJs.

Primosten is ideally located for those who want to travel further afield and explore more of the region. Nearby Trogir is one such popular destination. Located just 17 miles from the city of Split (very popular with tourists), and with a population of just over 10,000, Trogir was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997, and is home to a number of fascinating historic sites, including the Cathedral of St Lawrence, the main part of which was completed in 1250, with the bell tower being constructed between the 14th and 16th century. Visitors are able to climb the tower and enjoy the incredible views, as well as exploring the Chapel of St John within the cathedral, which has long been considered the best Renaissance site in Dalmatia. While you’re in Trogir be sure to visit the Cipiko Palaces, located opposite the cathedral, that were home to the town’s noble family in the 15th century, as well as the Kamerlengo Fortress on the southwestern tip of the island. Here you’ll be able to climb to the height of the walls and look out over the town and out to sea

Region

Perched on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, Primošten is a stunning seaside town that beckons visitors with its warm Mediterranean charm. This enchanting destination is more than just a picturesque coastal enclave; it's a place where the past gracefully meets the present, and where breathtaking landscapes paint the perfect backdrop for a memorable vacation.

Primošten features pretty, stone streets that wind their way through the town. You'll feel as though you've stepped back in time as you explore the ancient architecture and discover the many quaint shops and restaurants.

The white stone Church of St. George, perched on a hill at the heart of the town, is a must-visit attraction. Its bell tower offers an excellent vantage point to take in panoramic views of the town and the sea. As you stroll through the old town, you'll also come across the famous Bucavac, a circular stone tower that was once a key part of the town's defence system. It now serves as a cultural venue and a reminder of the town's fortified past.

The area’s coastline is dotted with picturesque coves and pebble beaches, making it a haven for beach lovers. The crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, and paddle-boarding and kayaking are a popular way of exploring the coast. The most famous beach in Primosten is Mall Raduca, a Blue Flag beach known for its clean, safe waters and pristine surroundings.

A delightful way to immerse yourself in the peninsula’s natural beauty is by taking a walk through the Primošten Vineyards. These remarkable stone-walled vineyards date back to the 16th century and are now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The breathtaking vistas of the Adriatic Sea and the charming town below will take your breath away.

You can sample the local wines produced from these vineyards in the traditional restaurants along Primosten’s waterfront, which also serve up a variety of freshly caught fish and shellfish. A must-try dish is the Dalmatian classic, "Peka," a hearty dish made from meat or seafood slow-cooked with potatoes and vegetables under a bell-shaped lid. For those with a sweet tooth, don't forget to finish with "Rozata," a traditional Croatian custard dessert with a caramelised sugar glaze - a taste of heaven on a plate!

Primošten's proximity to the Dalmatian islands adds another layer of allure to this peninsula. Take a day trip to the nearby Kornati Islands, a national park consisting of 89 stunning islands and islets. The Kornati archipelago is a sailor's paradise, with its crystalline waters and numerous coves. If you're not an experienced sailor, guided boat tours are readily available.

Another wonderful day trip is to the idyllic island of Zlarin, known as the "Golden Island" due to its golden, sandy beaches. Zlarin is famous for its history of coral harvesting, and today this can still be seen in their jewellery-making tradition.

Whether you're wandering through the charming old town, basking on the pristine beaches, or exploring the nearby islands, Primošten offers an abundance of enticing experiences. This coastal gem is more than just a tourist destination; it's an authentic slice of Croatian life.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Children are sure to find Primosten just as charming as the adults. A welcome break from phones and ipads, Primosten offers a chilled-out vibe, and an enjoyable time can be spent walking through the pretty streets, seeing the white stone churches, and marvelling at the impressive Our Lady of Loretto - a 17 metre tall shrine to the Virgin Mary that offers some Instagram-worthy views of the town.

Kids of all ages will enjoy a day out at Primosten’s Raduca beach, whether skimming pebbles, paddling in the clear waters, or letting off steam on the bouncy castles or trampolines that are often set up here in the summer months. You’ll find mostly pebble beaches along the Dalmatian Coast, but if you hire a car or take a bus to the nearby town of Split, you’ll find the famous Bacvice Beach - popular with kids thanks to its long sandy shallows, and with adults thanks to its close proximity to the city centre and all the shops, restaurants and bars it has to offer.

While in Split it’s well worth a visit to Diocletian’s Palace - a super fun place to explore, full of twists, turns and stairways, and presided over by a black sphinx perched high in the courtyard. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’re in for a treat too, as you might recognise this as the location where Daenerys Targaryen keeps her dragons while she’s in Meereen! The palace is an incredibly popular destination with tourists and locals alike, so we suggest going early to avoid the crowds!

The city of Split is home to events that are sure to delight kids (and adults!) of all ages all year round - from the Split Carnival in February, the Croatia Boat show held in April and the famous Festival of Flowers held at Diocletian’s Palace in May, to the Mediterranean Film Festival that’s held here in June, the urban music festival, Fibra Festival, in July, and Split Summer Festival that runs from July into August.

If you visit Split with the kids, be sure to plan a trip to Zvonac Park; a dinosaur-themed playground that is super popular with children of all ages. Once the kids have worn themselves out clambering over the play equipment and running around in the fresh air, you’ll all enjoy a stroll along the waterfront promenade to grab some refreshments.
