When it comes to location, Sea Salt gets a great big tick. This wonderful three bedroom holiday home is nestled on the cliffs on the outskirts of Porthleven in one of Cornwall’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty with glorious uninterrupted panoramic sea views. With easy access to the sandy beach, Sea Salt offers fantastic seaside living in superbly presented spaces. The house comes with beautifully decorated rooms, a chef’s dream of a kitchen, three bathrooms, sensational decked terraces and a garden. In this dreamy spot, you will enjoy beachside serenity, calm and total relaxation.

Porthleven is the most southerly working port in the country. Due to massive winter storms, the granite harbour and its sea walls are massive. It once boasted a fleet of more than one hundred drifters to catch pilchard and mackeral. While retaining its fishing village character, Porthleven is great for tourists, enjoying an iconic pier, famous clock tower and a good selection of restaurants. It is a great base for a walking holiday and is popular with surfers. Golfers enjoy the course at nearby Praa Sands where the beach is great for families. Close by are Loe Bar, the River Cober Estuary, Helston with its famous theme park, Gunwalloe Cove Beach, Marazion and St Michael’s Mount and the Penwith Heritage Coast. The vibrant town of Penzance, the iconic village of Mousehole, the breathtaking Lands End and the foodie harbour front of St Ives are all within easy reach.

Sea Salt is built over three levels. Every level is drowned in natural light that floods through the large picture windows and French doors. Depending on what time of year you visit, you will see mind-blowing spectacles through the windows, whether it be spell-binding sunsets and sunrises, surfers on the sea or wild winter storms. There are few better seats on the south coast of Cornwall. You enter Sea Salt on the middle floor. The large entrance hallway takes you to the full width living room with its stunning glass-wrapped balcony. With a blue seaside theme, sumptuous corner sofa, matching armchair, atmospheric wood burning stove and large Smart television, the living room is calm, relaxing and beautiful. It is hard to take your eyes away from the spectacular seascapes outside. The doors open to the decked balcony for even better views. As a seaside chill descends, you can snuggle up, chuck a log on the stove and get cosy with Netflix.

Downstairs, you will discover a fabulous kitchen diner. With a gorgeous slate floor, superb contemporary cabinetry, a fantastic island and a modern dining table with a view, it is a fabulous spot for entertaining. Doors open to the decked terrace for alfresco dining, a truly wonderful space where you will feel totally away from all the stresses and strains of everyday life. Your breakfasts and lunches will be lengthy as you will find it very difficult to leave these mesmerising vistas. You can relax to the soothing sounds of the sea, spot dolphins in the waves and birds of prey scoping out the skies. Colourful fishing boats will pass by with their catches of the day.

Sea Salt boasts three superb bedrooms. The lower ground floor master offers a beautifully dressed kingsize bed and access to the terrace and garden. Your morning cup of coffee on the deck will be a highlight. The remaining two bedrooms are located on the top floor, both with ensuite bathrooms. One enjoys a double bed and the other twins. The double is a total delight with gorgeous linens on the bed, a bright feature wall and a Juliette balcony. The twin is a lovely nest. You can hear the waves breaking on the beach from your beds, a lovely way to wake in the mornings.

Sea Salt enjoys a phenomenal location on the cliff just outside Porthleven. With uninterrupted sea views, the house is perfect for a spot of switch off.

Porthleven is a wonderful resort, a former fishing village with a mighty harbour and an excellent array of tourist amenities. Many of Cornwall’s attractions and theme parks are within easy reach and the house is located on the Coastal Path so there are fabulous walks in both directions. Porthleven has always been popular with artists and it is easy to see why. You will find some delightful craft shops in the village. At low tide, west of the harbour entrance, there are some wonderful rock pools and the Giant’s Quoit, a fifty ton rock. From the cliffs, you can see the abandoned engine houses of tin mines at Rinsey. Tregonning Hill is also on the horizon, an extinct volcano and the spot where china clay was first discovered. Porthleven is popular with not only surfers but with tennis, football, cricket, bowling and snooker fans.

Praa Sands is one of the most popular beaches in the area with its sand and shingle beach backed by cliffs. A long sand and pebble beach starts at Porthleven and stretches three miles to Loe Bar and Gunwalloe Cove. When the tide is out, it is possible to walk along the beach to Loe Bar though you must take care with the tides. The lake behind the River Cober is the biggest stretch of natural fresh water in Cornwall.

The Penrose Estate is a beautiful large area of parkland between Porthleven and Helston. The rolling parkland and its ancient trees stretch down to the coast between Gunwalloe and Porthleven.

The National Trust owned Tudor and Stuart Grade I mansion Godolphin House comes complete with Elizabethan stables and glorious gardens. There are orchards, bluebell woods and woodlands in this wonderful estate that looks beautiful at all times of the year.

Further along the coast, Newlyn enjoys several galleries, some charming pubs and several cosy restaurants. The Newlyn Christmas lights are launched annually along with tunes from the Newlyn Male Voice Choir and followed by a traditional firework display. It is worth getting up early to experience the bustling fish market. The Newlyn Fish Festival is held each year on August Bank Holiday Monday when stalls and cafes take over the quays for the day.

The much loved fishing village of Mousehole boasts an even more famous Christmas light display and offers delightful original character, charm and beauty. The picturesque harbour is surrounded by narrow streets and yellow lichened houses, all huddled together. You will find pretty galleries, gift shops and restaurants along the harbour road. Make sure you take your camera!

Land’s End is famous for being the most south-westerly point in Britain. It is one of the most beautiful, naturally wild and unspoilt spots in Cornwall. The former smallholding is also known as the ‘First and Last’ due to its status as both the starting and ending point of the journey to or from John O’Groats in Scotland, the longest journey in the UK. It is definitely a must-visit with beautiful stretches of ancient coastline and awe-inspiring views. The first recorded name of Land’s End was ‘Penwith Steort’ dating back to 997. The iconic Land’s End signpost was established in the 1950’s when a local family-run business erected the now legendary Cornish icon.

Penzance is a major tourist and commercial centre in West Cornwall. The town is steeped in history with many monuments and historic sites. It boasts dramatic beaches and cliffs and offers much entertainment as well as hundreds of cafes and restaurants. On the moorland surrounding Penzance, there are numerous pre-historic Neolithic and Bronze Age tombs, monuments and settlements, some dating from over 5000 years ago.

Flambards Theme Park is the biggest family fun day out in Cornwall with fantastic rides including the thrilling Hornet Rollercoaster, SkyRaker, Thunderbolt, Space Race, the Colorado River log flume as well as giant soft play, rides for little ones and plenty of cafes and restaurants. The park is award-winning and even offers a Victorian village and Britain in the Blitz exhibitions.

On wet weather days, One2Eleven Indoor Play in Helston is a good option. It offers a fantastic range of slides, climbing play, a cannon park, ball swamps, an assault course, climbing frames, tunnels and much more. It sits next to Flambards and is ideal for toddlers to pre-teens.

The National Seal Sanctuary in Helford is popular too. It is a haven for injured and orphaned seal pups set on the pretty Helford Estuary in the lovely village of Gweek.

In Hayle, the award-winning Paradise Park offers much family fun. There are amazing free flying bird shows, penguin photocalls, parrot feeding sessions as well as Jungle Barn, a wonderful indoor play centre. Children will meet rare and beautiful parrots, flamingos, toucans and red-billed Cornish choughs, owls, kookaburras and cranes. In all there are over one hundred and thirty species and more than one thousand birds. The Fun Farm enjoys mini donkeys, pygmy goats, sheep, rabbits and guinea pigs which can be petted. There are also red pandas, red squirrels and otters with many species in conservation breeding schemes. It is a great day out! While you are in Hayle, it is great fun to have a game of country skittles. As well as four skittle alleys, there is air hockey, a shooting gallery, games and a restaurant.

Children love having their photograph taken by the signpost at Land’s End. The beaches near Land’s End are incredible, some with very good surf if you have budding surfers. Sennen Cove, a mile north of Land’s End is a delight with white marram dune backs sands, deep turquoise sea and spectacular sunsets. Porthcurno Beach is ideal for families with soft sand and plenty of space for frisbees and balls. The Minack Theatre, an open air, Greek inspired amphitheatre is built high into the rocks on the cliffs overlooking the bay. From May to September, visitors can enjoy plays and music against the stunning backdrop of Porthcurno Bay and the Logan Rock headland beyond. The underground Porthcurno Telegraph Museum is also worth a visit. Long Rock, Mousehole, Marazion and Carbis Bay beaches are all very good too.

Children love crossing the causeway where a legendary giant once walked, following the footsteps of pilgrims to St Michael’s Mount. You can boat hop to the island where modern life meets layers of interesting history. Children enjoy discovering the medieval castle, the sub-tropical gardens and the harbour. The castle quiz is popular. There are live bands on the village green on Sundays as well as regular events, including easter egg hunts, music celebrations and a pirate day in August.

  • Perfect

    on 19/06/2022

The House is set in an ideal spot with uninterrupted views of the sea from all rooms and a lovely decked area for bbq’s or just relaxing and taking in the view. It’s very quiet and only a short stroll to the Harbour. It has good level private parking at the entrance to the house.

  • Will be returning for sure.

Fabulously located property perched on the cliffs looking out to sea. Lots of room both inside and out, well equipped. Lovely to hear the waves breaking on the beach below while laying in bed. Also the beautiful sunsets each evening.

  • Lovely large house

    on 31/12/2021

The location is PERFECT. You have the roar of the waves crashing in from the Atlantic 24/7 - its the most stunning and relaxing sound and view. We visited in December - the house was clean, warm and cosy for winter retreat - even with windows ajar to keep property aired (Covid) it was perfect Short walk into town for amenities, cafe's and pubs etc. Coastal walks in all directions - but also in soggy conditions a gravel path towards Loe Bar if you want to avoid doggies getting muddy. Accommodation has everything you need - even Christmas tree up for us. We love this place.
