Quay Retreat is a Cornish gem located in the beautiful estuary town of Fowey. It is beautifully appointed two storey apartment with a blissful roof terrace looking out over the estuary. There are shops, bars, cafes, and restaurants on the doorstep along with harbourside eateries offering a warm welcome within minutes. Quay Retreat has been designed with upside down living on the first and second floors to cleverly maximise the space and light as well as making the most of the estuary views. With two beautiful, seaside themed bedrooms and two bathrooms, this gorgeous haven of calm is perfect for a family or friends. It is the perfect base to enjoy a day exploring Fowey and south Cornwall or just to kick back and laze on the roof terrace with your holiday books and a bottle chilled white wine.

The picturesque town of Fowey, much loved by tourists, is a bustling small port with a busy commercial life as well as providing attractive moorings for leisure boats. The pretty harbour is flanked by fourteenth century blockhouses and the charming narrow roads perched on the hillside are sprinkled with multicoloured cottages, quaint gift shops, cafes, and restaurants. There are regular celebrations of the life of its famous resident Daphne du Maurier including the May Fowey Festival of Words and Music and the Literacy Centre offers an exhibition of her life and work. Fowey is nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with a backdrop of countryside, tidal creeks, rolling fields and rugged cliffs.

Quay Retreat is tucked away down a private alley off the main street, offering a haven of calm and relaxation. The top floor open plan living area is drowned in sparkling Cornish light and is the perfect space to relax and dine with a view. With gorgeous wooden panelling, comfy sofas, a large television and a white, blue, and grey colour theme, the living area is beautiful. The dazzling white contemporary kitchen comes with excellent appliances including an espresso coffee machine and the glass dining table comes with blue upholstered chairs, blending in perfectly.

Your two bedrooms sit below, both beautiful with wooden panelling and similar coastal colour tones. The master boasts a king-size bed and stunning views over the bustling Fore Street. It comes with a luxury ensuite bathroom with a shower. The second bedroom enjoys a super king-size bed that can be set up as twins on request. The beds are all adorned with crisp cottons and stylish soft furnishings. Guests sleeping in this pretty nest enjoy a family bathroom with a bath and separate shower. Both rooms offer televisions for lazy lie-ins.

The ground floor entrance hall offers a useful storage cupboard for body boards and fishing nets which are provided for your entertainment. The real magic of Quay Retreat is its roof top terrace with its lovely alfresco lounge furniture and those stunning estuary views. It is the perfect relaxation spot.

Quay Retreat enjoys a fabulous position in the heart of Fowey with stunning views of the estuary. The Fowey estuary is a glorious sight with Fowey on one side at the mouth of the River Fowey and the gorgeous town of Polruan on the other. There are regular passenger ferries to and from Polruan and a car ferry to Boddinick. The ferry house was originally the du Maurier family home and later the home of Angela du Maurier, Daphne’s sister.

As well as being incredibly pretty, Fowey enjoys a rich history. During the Second World War, Fowey was the centre for air-sea rescue and one of the places from which the D-Day invasions were launched. St Catherine’s Point is on the Fowey side of the harbour entrance where it functioned as a lighthouse in medieval times. St Catherine’s Castle below was built during the reign of Henry VIII to defend the harbour entrance. It is accessible when walking from the pretty Readymoney Cove. On Fore Street you will find the Old House of Foye, a medieval house built in 1430. It is now a shop but the walls, beamed interior and fireplace are pretty much the same. During the summer, Fowey Town Hall’s Museum and small aquarium is open. Daphne du Maurier is celebrated with the Du Maurier Festival each May and at the Literacy Centre next to the church.

Blissful beach days can be enjoyed at Par Sands, close to the village of Par and four miles from St Austell. It boasts a huge expanse of sand with a backdrop of pretty dunes. Polkerris Beach boasts an idyllic sandy cove and stunning coastline with an excellent array of water sports. Visitors enjoy stand up paddleboards, learning to sail and windsurf, kayaking or simply exploring the rock pools and building sandcastles. There is a wonderful beach restaurant and waterside pub. The National Trust’s dreamy Lantic Bay is a great spot for a picnic and paddling. It is well worth the climb back up with spectacular views from the top.

You can take a ferry to the bustling town of Mevagissey with its working harbour, aquarium, museum, seafood restaurants, atmospheric pubs, water sports, beautiful gardens, cycle trails and much more. You can walk from the town to the stunning Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Restormel Castle lies by the River Fowey, near Lostwithiel. One of the four chief Norman castles of Cornwall, it is notable for its perfectly circular design. Once a luxurious residence of the Earl of Cornwall, it was ruined by the 16th century and is now under the supervision of the English Heritage. It is another beautiful picnic spot.

A beautiful and stunning place to stay. Everything you need is catered for with all amenities close by. Beautiful views from the rooftop terrace across the river just so peaceful. Couldn’t recommend Quay Retreat enough a fabulous place to stay and enjoy beautiful Cornwall

  • Highly recommend

This is a gem of a property in the centre of Fowey. Small terrace, but a lovely view and private to enjoy a drink with views of the boats. Superbly appointed apartment with plenty of space for 4 adults. Everything we could have possibly needed. Parking to unload was fine and then we moved the car and paid for a weeks parking. Great base for walking and exploring. Would highly recommend this property - we will definitely be back!
