Villa Balafia

For a peaceful and relaxing family holiday, a stay at Villa Balafia can't be beaten. Surrounded by glorious rural landscapes and set within beautiful private grounds, a family holiday here is absolute heaven. There's plenty of space at the villa both inside and out for the kids to play, with a spacious covered dining and lounge area for enjoyable family moments out of the sun and a wonderful private pool. The water is easily accessible for guests of all ages via steps, so you won't have to worry about the little ones trying to get up and down a ladder. Parents should note that the pool is unfenced, so, as always, when it comes to children and bodies of water, caution is advised.

If you're travelling with any budding artists or photographers, be sure to pack their art supplies and camera so that they can spend some time capturing the surrounding area in their own unique style - there's plenty of scopes here for the kids to create a truly unique souvenir of their stay which will be something to treasure forever.

You won't find much in the way of traditional tourist attractions in the surrounding areas, but a stroll around the pretty hamlet of Sant Llorenc is an enjoyable way to spend time as a family. There is a small playground that younger children will enjoy, and the restaurants in the village both serve up a range of dishes that should suit most palates. Oliver recommends packing up a family picnic and heading into the hills that surround the area. You'll find lots of dedicated picnic areas and walking routes that are popular with visitors here - and it's worth noting that dogs are not permitted, so if you happen to have children who are nervous around animals, you won't have to worry.

If you have access to a vehicle and want to venture further out with the kids, Santa Eulalia is a great choice. The third largest town in Ibiza and catering to the more 'discerning' holiday maker, Santa Eulalia is one of the quieter tourist areas. The seafront promenade spans the length of the beach and is lined with palm trees, miniature gardens and a fountain, and you'll find plenty of family-friendly restaurants and cafes here, as well as spots to stop for ice cream, shops and markets. The main beach here is smoke-free, which is highly appealing to those visiting with children, and features white sands and clear, shallow waters. There are some great amenities here, too, including loungers and parasols, showers and toilets, lifeguards, restaurants, bars and shops - and even free WiFi! There's also good disabled access both onto the beach and into the water with the help of a lifeguard and an amphibious wheelchair and walker-rollator.
