In the past few years Carvoeiro has developed to accommodate for the growing number of tourists who are curious to see what the fuzz is all about, and the town continues to get livelier and livelier each summer. While it has kept its character and remains exquisitely peaceful, there are also plenty of modern amenities and loads of exciting activities in the area. Monte Rei Golf & Country Club

Villas in Monte Rei Golf & Country Club

Monte Rei Golf & Country Club is the crown atop the Algarve golf-kingdom. Its claim to fame is, of course, the brilliant Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course which is Portugal’s number one golf course with an absolutely unique layout and exceptional facilities.

The game at Monte Rai is truly unparalleled, but there is much more to discover here. In true Algarve fashion, golf and tennis go hand in hand at the resort, which offers excellent courses and lessons. Little visitors will also enjoy playing at the Kid’s Villa, as well as in the family-friendly swimming pools.

And during your time away from the tee, there are lovely dining experiences to be had (including sommelier wine tastings), and private dining can be arranged for the otherwise self-catered luxury villas.

Villas in Estoi

Estoi is a fascinating little town hidden away a few kilometres from the Algarve coastline. It makes for a perfect home base while exploring the region, although there is not much going on in the village itself.

Estoi is simple and picturesque, with cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and terracotta roofs. You can begin your exploration of the region’s history right here with the Palácio de Estoi, an exquisite rose-coloured rococo palace which is open to the public and nowadays run as a hotel.

Close by there are also the ruins of a Roman villa dating all the way back to the 2nd century AD. But most of what you’ll be doing in the village of Estoi is relaxing and looking on as local life goes around you, as well as travelling to explore the Algarve on your own terms.

Vilamoura has been a glamorous town ever since Roman time. Its rich history is still palpable as you walk its streets, coming upon Roman Baths and ancient murals all around town.

These days, Vilamoura is still a high-class destination although it has certainly kept up with the times. Yachts dock at the large marina and travellers galavant the seaside strip hopping between bars, restaurants and the dazzling casino. The local championship courses naturally attract a crowd of golf enthusiasts as well, and there is a large selection of other sports to enjoy in the area (including those best played out in the water).

There is certainly no need to ever be bored in Vilamoura, but if it’s ultimate relaxation you’re after you won’t be disappointed. The town is alluringly close to Praia da Marina and Praia de Falesia, where the golden sand and hot Mediterranean sun is just about never-ending.

Salema and its picturesque surroundings are full of hidden gems and old school charm, making it the perfect coastal escape from your busy everyday life. This endlessly charming little fishing village in western Algarve has it all: locally sourced seafood, kid-friendly beaches and a fabulous location just outside the National Park of Southwest Alentejo, in an area of unspoilt natural beauty completely different from that on the other end of the coast.

In the marina you can still spot local fishermen taking out their colourful little boats in the morning, and wandering around town you’ll come across great and homely restaurants where you can feast on their catch.

After a few long afternoons lounging on the secluded beaches, swimming in the sea and trying your windsurfing skills, you’ll learn that there isn’t much to do in Salema but taking it easy, and that’s just the way we like it.

Olhos d’Agua

Olhos d’Agua offers the best of both worlds when it comes to holidaying in the Algarve. This low-key little fishing village has the all charm and relaxing vibes of a sleepy town by the seaside combined with the lively buzz of its neighbouring resort towns like Albufeira.

Olhos d’Agua is first and foremost ideal for a holiday on the sunny beach, and you’ll surely spend most of your time here either stretched out on the sand or playing around in the water. Walking the cobbles streets of the village, you’ll encounter quaint seafood restaurants and bars but there’s not much of a nightlife. This is why Olhos d’Agua is the perfect destination for a chilled-out family break. As is Boliqueime, a quaint little village with a historical feel just a short drive from Olhos d’Agua where you can retreat in absolute stillness and make day trips to surrounding towns and attractions.
