Overview

Pool Villa/House Ideal for Kids All Bedrooms En-Suite Parking Space

Villa Castana is a traditional, historic stone home in a dream location amongst Umbria’s verdant fields and rugged hills. With 90 acres of private land around you, this house is the perfect escape from day-to-day life, where you can make memories with your family or your closest friends. This welcoming villa is a wonderful base for day trips to local beauty spots such as Lake Trasimeno. Assisi, Gubbio, Spello and Deruta are all wonderful places to visit less than an hour away.

This two-storey home oozes typically Umbrian style; the exposed stone, wooden ceiling beams, open fireplaces and terracotta tiles all add charm and sense of history to the villa, making it an inviting and comfortable place to spend your holiday. The owners have also made sure to add modern touches to the house for the comfort of the guests, including brand new bathrooms, a contemporary kitchen, TVs and Wi-Fi.

You will approach the villa through the serene private land and towering trees, up to the gravelled fore-court in front of the house. Entering the home you will find a large living room with sofas, armchairs and a TV. Some of the armchairs are placed by a vast window so you can take in the amazing views as you enjoy your morning coffee. The kitchen is just next door, this room is fitted with all of the appliances and crockery you will need during your trip if you decide to cook for yourselves. The gleaming steel units contrast with the ancient wooden beams above to create a harmonious blend of old and new. You can opt to dine in this room at the table by the kitchen or in the separate dining room overlooking the grounds.

There are four bedrooms for you to choose from; two of these have air conditioning, while the others are cooled by ceiling fans. There are three bedrooms with double beds and one which can be configured as a double or a twin room to suit your needs. Whichever bedroom you choose, you are sure of a great night’s sleep as you will hear nothing but the wind in the trees outside. Each of the four bedrooms are spacious and boast exquisite bed linen, with pretty details such as colourful rugs and exposed stone work, they also have en-suite bathrooms.

Outside, there is plenty of space for unwinding in the sun as the kids run around. The garden here is large and has a private infinity pool, covered lounge areas and dining spaces. You could easily spend all day out here in the garden and walking in the surrounding grounds.

When you wish to dine out or need to go grocery shopping, the nearest amenities are around 8km away by car. There are also many more villages and small towns 14km away where you will find larger ranges of shops and eateries. If you would like a full day of sightseeing and shopping, you could spend the day in historic Umbertide which is 16km away or visit Perugia, the capital of Umbria which is only 26km away.

If you are heading to Umbria to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can simply spend your time taking lengthy walks and hikes in the local hill trails. Nearby you can also visit a world-class golf course and the incredible Lake Trasimeno which offers everything from beaches to relaxing boat trips on the water.

Villa Castana is located amidst tranquil green countryside and farmland in Umbria. This magical setting is the ideal place to stay for those wishing to explore Umbria’s landscape, while also visiting countless incredible villages, towns and cities nearby.

Though the home lies in 90 acres of private land, surrounded by rural pastures, you will be able to reach supermarkets and restaurants within an 8km drive. There are also a range of smaller villages and towns nearby, such as San Giovanni del Pantano and Colle Umberto both of which are under 15km away. You will be able to find shops, restaurants, cafes and bars as well as historic churches, parks and even stunning caves within these towns and surrounding areas, meaning you do not have to travel far from the villa if you do not wish to.

If you would like to visit some of Umbria’s larger towns, Umbertide is a great choice and is a mere 16km away by car. This town has a rich history stretching back 2000 years so you will be able to find a staggering fortress and castle, medieval churches and archaeological ruins here. There are also an array of museums and art galleries where you can take in some culture if you wish to escape the heat of the day. Another excellent option is to visit the beautiful town of Assisi. Steeped in history, this hill town was birth place to St. Francis, one of Italy's patron saints, and should be a must on your itinerary. Not to mention the nearby towns of Gubbio, Spello, Deruta and Cortona - you are absolutely spoilt for choice when visiting this region!

Perugia, Umbria’s capital is also easy to reach at just 26km away. This is must-visit city with so much to see and do. If you would like to get your bearings or learn more about the history of the area you could book on to a walking tour, or foodies might prefer a food and wine tour, in which you stop of at various restaurants and delis throughout the city to try their products. If you would prefer to explore at your own pace, start off at the Piazza IV Novembre which is the city’s main square and allow yourself to wander around the beautiful streets and medieval squares. Some of the key attractions include the National Gallery, the Renaissance Rocca Paolina fortress and of course Perugia’s famous chocolate factory which you can visit for tours and tastings. Perugia is known for its chocolate making and holds a chocolate festival in October, but the city is also a hub for musicians with Jazz events and festivals held throughout the year.

Aside from the abundant towns and cities which you can spend your days visiting, you will also be able to explore the incredible natural surroundings and outdoor attractions on your door step. One place you can visit nearby is the Antognolla Golf estate, a world class gold estate which is only 10km away. Keen golfers will be thrilled to discover the 18-hole golf course in gorgeous surroundings. If you do not care for golf, you should still visit the estate as there are lengthy hiking and cycling routes here. The estate even has a fantastic spa offering beauty treatments and massages. There is even a restaurant here in a former castle. Another lovely, natural site you can visit is Lake Trasimeno which is 44km away. This vast lake is lined with lake beaches where you can sunbathe or take part in a range of water sports.

  • Relaxing holiday!

    on 14/10/2023

My husband and I rented this beautiful villa for a week, after a full-on summer we were looking for a place we could switch off and complete relax and we got exactly what we were looking for. The house is stunning, very authentic and rustic, however the kitchen is fully modern with everything an enthusiastic cook could require with ample dining space. The bedrooms were all well decorated with super comfortable beds and quality sheets and pillows.

We were greeted by the host who couldn’t have been more helpful. Nothing was too much bother and it was clear he knew everything about the house. The owner was also extremely helpful giving us lots of top tips where to eat and visit in the surrounding area. (There are lots, if you like food this is the perfect place to holiday, it was truffle season when we were there). A first-class service.

The grounds are beautiful and well looked after with the outdoor eating area having one of the largest and most spectacular views I have come across - the same view that the ample pool shares.

If you want to relax and switch off whilst knowing your every need is met. I cannot recommend this home enough. Next time I’m coming back with my family.

  • Very comfortable and homely!

    on 23/09/2023

My husband and I and some friends had a wonderful week away in these beautiful Umbrian hills. We wanted to have a week of full relaxation, walking, eating and drinking delicious food and wines. This house was located perfectly – beyond what we had expected. Very comfortable and homely. There was nothing that we needed. The infinity pool and that view - wow! You need to see it to believe it. We returned to the UK feeling brand new. Looking forward to returning for another recharge next year.

  • Beautiful home!

    on 02/09/2023

So happy we have discovered this beautiful home! Very easily accessible from Perugia airport. Fantastic supermarket approx. 15 mins drive away. We explored the local area a bit – fabulous restaurants nearby. Caldaro in La Bruna is a must! We took a day trip to Siena which was very easy. The house is very comfortable with every little thing thought of and the pool and gardens are stunning with the most breathtaking views. We can’t wait to come back again.

  • Wonderful Vacation

    on 26/08/2023

My family and I had a wonderful vacation staying here. The views are out of this world – it is a pure haven of peace and tranquility. Very comfortable house – lovely bed linen, fully equipped kitchen. Stunning great sized pool. The house itself manages to stay nice and cool in the heat. There is air conditioning upstairs. We had some lovely day trips but to be honest we really just wanted to stay at the house and enjoy the pool, garden and house. We will be back!

  • A dream holiday spot!

    Created on 24/07/2023

    A dream holiday spot!
We had a wonderful holiday in this holiday home! The house is fully equipped, we didn't miss anything. Everything is very well maintained and in perfect condition. The gardener came by every other day and took great care of us. The owner and administrator always got in touch and asked if everything was ok.
It is off the beaten track and so we were able to enjoy the holiday in absolute peace and secluded location.
You need a car for this accommodation since the nearest supermarket is about 15-20 minutes away by car.
We can only recommend it and will certainly come back!

  • Fantastic!

    Created on 12/07/2023

Magnificent house high up in the countryside. For those who do not want anyone next door, this is the house for you. The view over the hills is fantastic. The swimming pool is exceptional. The equipment and bedding are of very good quality. We had a great quiet family week. It is high end.
