Experience an idyllic Italian retreat when holidaying in Villa Parrocchetto, situated in a rural setting in the country’s famous wine and gastronomy Piedmont region.

Comprising a main house and separate annexe, the property is perfectly positioned in a large lawned garden with a swimming pool, and therefore making the most of the UNESCO-classified landscapes.

Step inside and be wowed by the ornate and elegantly designed interiors which include a large living and dining room decorated with antique furniture with French doors leading straight to the vast lawns. Guests will love being transported back in time as they lounge in front of the fireplace – note the comfy sofas draped in quintessentially Italian floral prints –  and meals will be easier to prepare in such a large, country-style kitchen. You can expect more original features as you move through the house, from wooden beamed ceilings and parquet floors to striped wallpaper that reminds of the patterns often seen on parasols lining the country’s beaches. Fine attention to detail has also been adhered to in the bedrooms, all of them spacious and full of light. In the master suite, marvel at the antique furnishings alongside an en-suite bathroom and sitting corner providing ample privacy.

The pretty garden is full of trees that rustle in the gentle summer breeze as well as shaded spots offering a hideaway from the sun. When you’re not hosting al-fresco soirées, take a dip in the swimming pool and take in the views as you sip Barolo wine from one of the local vineyards.

When it’s time to leave this idyllic place and start exploring the nearby area, start with a scenic walk to the nearby village to pick up pastries and coffee or wander through the fields to find a quiet picnic spot.

Asti and Alba are also lovely towns to visit, each sharing a rich culinary heritage which is reflected on the menus of both family-owned and Michelin-star restaurants, most of which show off white truffles, agnolotti pasta, hazelnut-based dishes and regional cheeses.

For more hustle and bustle, you can explore Turin or Genoa, both offering a great wealth of activities such as sightseeing, museums, parks and an exceptional dining scene.

Whether picnicking in the vineyards, sampling new regional wines or eating your soul away in all the excellent restaurants around and sampling local delicacies such as white truffle and pasta, staying at Villa Parrocchetto lets you enjoy Piedmont across all its wonderful seasons.

Full of undulating hills, sun-dappled vineyards and with a close proximity to the Alps, the landscapes of the Piedmont region are a true paradise for wine connoisseurs, food lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

In just a short car journey, you’ll reach the nearby local village with a train station, amenities and a couple of restaurants to help keep the hunger away. If you fancy a stroll before and after dinner, then you’ll be pleased to find a very good Italian restaurant less than a 30-minute walk away, while more places to dine and shop can be found in Tortona, a charming town situated on the right bank of the Scrivia between the plain of Marengo and the foothills of the Ligurian Apennines. Here you can stroll through the cobbled streets lined with honey-hued architecture and visit the Castello di Tortona castle, or Museo delle Macchine Agricole Orsi displaying old trains and carriages.

On your way to Turin, why not make a quick stop and soak up the culture in Asti? Full of ornate palazzos, landmarks and gorgeous squares for people watching, it’s home to a unique art museum housed in a 15th century palace Palazzo Mazzetti - Pinacoteca Civica, with one-of-a-kind artworks made from wood and ivory, Renaissance paintings, ancient coins and fabrics that will take your breath away.

Piedmont’s wonderful gastronomy is another great draw, and many family-owned as well as Michelin-starred establishments can be found around Alba. Expect white truffles, hazelnut-based dishes and Piedmontese beef alongside Barolo and Barbaresco wines to appear on many menus. The city is also one of the main cities in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont, and so is beautiful to explore on foot.

For a different type of buzz, visit Turin. Once Italy’s capital, it’s bursting at its seams with Baroque architecture, museums and streets lined with boutiques and restaurants. On a sunny day, why not walk up the spiral staircase of Mole Antonelliana, a grand landmark offering sweeping views of the city? Alternatively, in the Automobile Museum devoted to Turin’s main industry, you can marvel at both old-school and prestigious new cars.

Villa Parrocchetto is also an excellent base for exploring the port city of Genoa known for its large 12th-century port as well as an aquarium housing an abundance of marine species alongside interesting landmarks and pretty squares. The city’s signature dish: pesto trofie pasta made from Ligurian basil is surely not to be missed.
