Overview

Pool Villa/House Quirky Modern
Great Value
Self-Catered Ideal for Kids Walk to Village Parking Space

Situated on the slopes of Mount Pelion in the quaint village of Agios Georgios Nileias is Villa Eris, a modern two-storey stone house that has been lovingly restored in accordance with Pelion’s traditional architectural features. The villa can accommodate 6-8 guests and offers rustic charm with a contemporary touch in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings.

Upon entering the villa, you will first notice the rich wooden floors and chunky furniture, along with the walls of white stone that contrast beautifully with colourful rugs and brightly patterned chairs. The living area is cosy and welcoming with comfy sofas and cushions in russet and grey tones, an open fireplace, and handsomely crafted wooden furniture, books, ornamental baskets and house plants. The rustic vibe is amplified by the original features; flagstone flooring and wooden panelled ceilings, juxtaposed with the modern amenities such as flatscreen TV, DVD player and Wifi.

The kitchen area maintains those same original features of wood and stone alongside all modern facilities, including electric oven and hob, sandwich toaster, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, and Nespresso coffee maker. The kitchen units are a modern grey against the white brickwork, and blend perfectly with the coloured rugs on the stone floors, and glossy red chairs around the dining table. There’s extra seating at the small breakfast bar, which doubles as another food preparation surface, and plenty of storage areas. The ground floor also houses a bathroom with a walk-in shower, beautifully modern in design and decor with cool grey tiles, and modern style wooden benches on which to place towels and toiletries.

A beautifully crafted wooden staircase leads guests up the first floor where you’ll find the three bedrooms. The two double rooms feature king-size beds with wrought iron frames, rich wooden floors and gorgeously chunky country-style furniture, including a chest and a bureau. The stone walls are a rich deep olive in one room, and a stunning terracotta shade in the other, both featuring crisp white linen with colourful patterned cushions and throws, and beautiful, quirky ornaments and artwork. The third room is decorated in beautiful shades of azure blue and white, and features two double beds and an ornamental fireplace. Again rich woods and patterned throws create a rustic, homely vibe and offer guests a wonderfully rested nights sleep. There is also a large bathroom on this floor featuring modern black and white tiled floors and walls, deep bath with shower attachment, and stylish modern lighting.

The grounds are accessible from both floors and guests will marvel at the incredible views of the Pagasitikos Gulf that Villa Eris has to offer. Stepping out into the private cobbled courtyard, surrounded by pretty flower beds, there is a quaint wooden dining table and covered wood stove for cooking and eating alfresco, and a well-tended lawn shaded by tall trees. On the decking, there are sun loungers on which to relax and recline beside your luxurious private Jacuzzi.

What you should know…

  • There is a walk-in shower downstairs and a large bathroom upstairs, but no en-suite facilities. Friends holidaying together might find this more of an issue than families
  • There are 3 bedrooms accommodating 6 guests. Villa Eris can accommodate an extra 2 guests as the living room sofa converts into a sofa bed
  • Villa Eris has a cosy homely vibe, with beautifully patterned throws, colourful rugs, and country-style furnishings, and so might not be suitable for those hoping for thoroughly modern decor in a completely neutral palette

Villa Eris is located in Agios Georgios Nileias, one of the most picturesque villages of Pelion and rich in traditional architecture. Here visitors will discover the region’s famous crystalline water fountains, beautiful walks along stone-paved paths leading to traditional mansions, and one of the most breathtaking squares in Pelion. Due to the location a car is essential.

Culture vultures can enjoy a visit to the church of Agios Georgios and its museum, the monastery Taxiarchon, and the Art Museum of the sculptor Nikolas. Beach lovers will be spoilt for choice; Kato Gatzea is a small beautiful beach of sand and fine pebbles exuding serenity and peace, the ideal choice for those looking for somewhere secluded and quiet. The clear emerald waters are perfect for swimming or paddling and attract tourists and locals alike.

Nearby Kala Nera is one of the more famous resorts in Pelion, favoured for its long beach, lively atmosphere and family-friendly amenities. The promenade is dotted with cafes and restaurants, making this the ideal location to spend an entire day both on and off the beach. There are sunbeds and parasols to rent and high thick trees behind the beach provide plenty of natural shade. Facing the Pagasitikos gulf, Kala Nera is very sheltered from the winds, and the calm seas make this an ideal destination for those with children.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

The living area on the ground floor of Villa Eris can sleep two guests and also houses a bathroom, which would be convenient for families with children too small to safely navigate the stairs. There are board games available and flatscreen TV for indoor entertainment, as well as high chairs, cots and children’s cutlery all available on request. There are stone steps leading to the outside areas and a dining area in a small cobbled courtyard so parents might want to be extra vigilant when children are in these areas. The lawn is well shaded so children can be well protected from the sun, and the grounds are all surrounded by low fencing for peace of mind.

The Pelion region of Greece has plenty to offer families. Besides beautiful beaches and stunning nature walks there is the Pelion Train - known locally as ‘Smudge’, built in the 20th century. Smudge travels from Volos to Melies, and the journey is an absolute must-do activity for visitors of Pelion. The ride covers a distance of 28km and stops at all the important historical spots of the wider area and will take you through the stunning natural landscape, as well as guiding you through the major technical achievements of the time, such as bridges and tunnels. Children can curl up in a cosy seat and enjoy an incredible world of colour from the windows, as well as learning a little about the history of the area along the way. Once you arrive in Melies try the traditional tavernas, or continue your education by visiting the historical church of Taxiarhes and the Museum of Folk Art, all before boarding the train again for the easy ride back and more magnificent views over the bay and forests.

Of course, all kids love a day out at the beach and Milopotamos is one of the most beautiful and most visited beaches on the peninsula. Parents should be aware there are stone steps down to the beach, but you won’t regret the extra care and attention taken. The beach consists of two small bays with a stone tunnel in between, through which children will love to swim in order to explore both beaches. The sea is turquoise with fine pebbles and the surrounding cliffs provide plenty of shade. The smaller of the two bays features a huge cave, safe for kids to explore, and when everyone’s had enough sun, sea and sand, why not head up to the bar above the beach where you can enjoy pizza and fresh fruit juices.

Reviews

  • The most comfortable stay

    on 27/08/2023

The villa is designed to the smallest details, retaining all the original beauty of the building but not giving up on any modern amenities to ensure the most comfortable stay. Equipped with everything we needed and beyond. The wood fired oven is a fantastic bonus and was a fun activity with the kids (ours are older). If you intend to use it, make sure to watch some videos on YouTube first to get the hang of it. The outdoor tub is cute but really small and we hardly used it because of the cold (in August!). If you wish to use it consider paying in advance for the water heat option. Village is pretty and has several good restaurants. The views are spectacular. We were offered a refresh of our towels every second day. Beds were comfy. Basic food supplies like spices and olive oil and coffee and sugar etc. were provided.
