Villa Lyra has been designed with a careful balance of indoor and outdoor living, with one leading to the other with ease. When you arrive, the entire villa is on one level, with a wheelchair-friendly pathway leading from the carpark, through beautiful gardens and eventually to the living space. With an emphasis on outdoor living, even whilst you are inside the views become picture frames on your walls, with sunlight flooding into each corner of the property, enlivening the space.

The innovative design of this stunning property means the living and sleeping areas are in two separate buildings with a beautiful walkway guiding you between the two, promoting a constant connection to the outdoors. The living area is modern and sophisticated, with natural stone features that tie the villa into the surroundings. The entire space is open-plan, with a contemporary kitchen, fully-equipped for your use, a beautiful informal dining area and a cosy seating area. The space has a warm and welcoming feel, with picture frame windows capturing a different view each time. When you slide open the patio doors, the entire living space opens out into the sun, combining the indoor and outdoor so you can meander between the two.

The master bedroom feels like a luxury suite, with an award-winning double bed and a glass partition separating the sleeping space and dressing area. The modern bathroom has a large bathtub where you can relax and gaze out to the wonderful sea views – a real treat!   

The true magic of this villa really comes alive when you step back outside, where the terrace shoots out from the hilltop, almost as though the glistening water of the swimming pool is trying to greet the sea on the horizon. A pergola has been positioned over a section of the pool and the adjacent seating area, dappling the light and offering moments of shade from the Cretan sunshine. Villa Lyra sits in a stunning location, with breath-taking views and a complete sense of peace and tranquillity, ideal for those looking for a relaxing holiday away from busy day to day lives. The villa is perched atop a hillside along the beautiful north-west coast of Crete, nearby to the town of Kissamos.

From the villa, you have stunning panoramic views across the Gramvousa peninsular and to the clear blue waters of Kissamos Bay, as well as the spectacular White Mountains that set a backdrop for the villa - everywhere you look there is something beautiful to see!

The villa itself is surrounded by lush olive groves and endemic flora, adding natural colours and scents into the space that help to settle you into the environment, making it feel like home. With multiple villas within the complex, you each have your own privacy and unique views, yet it gives you the chance to travel as two groups, renting villas close together, yet both still enjoying your own privacy.

The peaceful location gives a sense of solitude to the villa, yet many of the highlights of western Crete are all just a short drive away. For a day on the sand, Falasarna beach is just 15-minutes’ drive away offering picturesque golden sandy shores and turquoise waters, this has been voted one of the top-5 beaches in Greece to visit! There are several other beautiful beaches nearby that you can visit as well as the nearby archaeological site that proves fascinating for kids and adults alike. Elafonissi beach is also just one hour south of the villa, voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world – so definitely worth a visit!

Kissamos is a small yet bustling town offers everything you may need during your stay, with lots of shops, cafeteria and tavernas positioned along the seafront. If you are looking for a more adventurous expedition, then you can take a boat trip to the uninhabited pirate island of Gramvouse, spending the day swimming, snorkelling and exploring the ruins of the Venetian Fortress! The boat will also take you to Balos bay, a beautiful place with warm shallow waters and beautiful pink sand! For the even more adventurous, you can walk the famous Samaria Gorge, which at 17km is the longest in Europe.

When you stay in Crete, the easiest thing is finding delicious places to eat! The restaurants range from traditional tavernas to intimate seafront dining and fine-dining rooftop terraces. There is something for every occasion, but some restaurants will need to be booked in advance during the peak season as it can get busy.

How to reach Chania

There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane:
Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.

By ferry:
If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. Security deposit €300 paid in cash to the owner upon arrival and refunded upon departure, subject to full inspection.

End of stay cleaning included? Yes. However, guests are required to leave the accommodation clean, tidy and in the same condition as on their arrival. Any extra cleaning, laundry, maintenance and/or rubbish disposal required will be charged against the security deposit.
Internet access? Complimentary Wi-Fi internet access included in rental price. It is good to note that the speed is dependent on local provider and technical issues may cause reduced speed or cut of service.
Changeover day Flexible
Minimum stay Please note that there is a 3-night minimum stay, this is increased to 7-nights across peak dates
Pets welcome? No pets
Smoking Allowed? No smoking
Tax From 1st January 2018, you’ll need to pay an Overnight Stay Tax which has been introduced by the Greek Ministry of Tourism. The Tax is €0.50 per person, per night, €3.50 in total for 7-nights. This will be required to be paid upon arrival.
Insurance Guests are required to be in possession of a valid insurance policy, which covers them for cancellations, personal belongings and any accidental damage caused during their stay.
Other Ts and Cs Please kindly note that the sofa bed is located in a separate building to the master bedroom and therfore may not be ideal for particularly young children.

The Greek government requires owners to collect a Tourist Climate Tax, your property manager will collect this in cash:
