Overview
This artistic village house in Provence is a true gem with its exquisite interiors and idyllic garden with swimming pool. It is in the heart of Fontvieille, known for its windmills and beautiful landscapes that so inspired the French writer Alphonse Daudet.
Villa Tahiti feels like a corner of paradise on a bustling village street just a stone’s throw away from restaurants, cafes and a good-sized supermarket. Guests can expect intricate detail, elegant furnishings and a wealth of books and artwork across the historic maison which is ideal at any time of year. It’s a joy to be able to open the tall glass window of the summer lounge out to the small yet stunning garden with its ancient olive tree and agapanthuses. Sit by the cypress tree and sip coffee or local wine as you embrace the characterful surroundings.
The small swimming pool is just right for cooling off on warm summer days and there is a barbecue for al-fresco dining and a relaxing outdoor lounge. Back inside, Villa Tahiti sleeps up to five guests across its two bedrooms with king-size doubles and a third bedroom with a French double, each with their own private bath or shower room.
Step out of your house and you are in charming Fontvieille with its old stone houses, restaurants, café terraces and shops. Follow the walking trail between the iconic windmills, including Moulin De Daudet, then hike through the glorious landscapes of olive trees, pine forests and oaks.
On the edge of Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park, gorgeous villages nearby include tiny Paradou, Maussane-les-Alpilles and Les Baux-de-Provence. Wine and food lovers should look out for gastronomic restaurants (some with Michelin stars), vineyards and lovely markets including the vibrant Wednesday morning market in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, around a 20-minute drive away.
Spend time in nearby Arles with its Roman amphitheatre and Van Gogh trail, discover the captivating scenery of the Camargue, venture to the beach at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer or head north towards the historic cities of Avignon and Nimes – there is so much to experience in this enchanting part of Provence and beyond.
