Villa Binoche is a spacious and modern home located on a wine estate which looks out over the surrounding vineyards and woodlands. When staying here you are ideally situated for a holiday filled with long country walks and visits to nearby villages and towns.

Villa Binoche is a two-floor, contemporary house which is flooded with natural light and features stunning garden views from numerous windows, especially in the triple-aspect living room. Downstairs you will find an open-plan living/dining area, which is a great space for making memories over a delicious meal together. An adjoining kitchen features sliding doors on to the gorgeous outdoor dining terrace so you can eat indoors or out. There is also a cosy TV room which is perfect for a night in watching a film or as a space for the kids to relax in.

As the sun goes down, there are 5 bedrooms to choose from to get a good night’s sleep; 3 of these are on the ground floor and 2 are on the first floor. Each elegant bedroom has been decorated to a high-standard and has an en-suite bathroom. Guests can also choose between having twin beds or a double bed in each room depending on what would suit the group best.

The garden is a brilliant feature and somewhere you will want to spend lots of time. Enjoy the wrap-around views and the fragrant scents of the Provençal summer air as you relax outside with family and friends. There are al-fresco dining spaces and outdoor sofas for unwinding with a good book, plus a stunning infinity pool for taking refreshing dips throughout the day.

The villa is ideally situated for a tranquil country break. You can access walking and cycling routes close by or go horse riding or paragliding to make the most of the wide-open spaces. When you need to pop to the shops or fancy a bite to eat, you will find a number of restaurants and shops scattered around the nearby countryside within a 10km radius.

There is also a delightful village a 6km drive away which is called Mazan. The village is enclosed in its original medieval walls and is filled with ancient churches and grand former palaces. There is a good range of shops and restaurants in the village too, whether you are looking for fine dining or traditional local cuisine. Follow the lovely Tour de Ville walking trail to explore the town and be sure to stop and see the incredible stone Sarcophagi in the historic cemetery. The history and folklore museum is the place to go to learn more about this fantastic village and the surrounding areas.

Bigger than Mazan and yet equally charming is the town of Carpentras, which is 7km away. Some of the key sights are the medieval synagogue, the former Episcopal Palace and the huge market where you could spend all day shopping. For a unique afternoon out, why not pay a visit to the Confiserie du Mont Ventoux where you can learn all about how the town’s speciality Berlingot sweets are made and of course try some tasty samples.

There are plenty more villages, towns and cities to explore in Provence, including Venasque which is 8km away, and Orange and Avignon, which are equidistant at 32km away.

This area of Provence is a diverse and beautiful place to visit for a holiday; you could choose to spend all of your trip immersed in nature walking in the surrounding pine forests, visiting local vineyards or cycling in the foothills of Mont Ventoux, or you could choose to visit a different historic town or village each day to take in the art and culture of the region.

Mazan (6km) is the closest village to the house and is a lovely place to visit. Settled since pre-historic times, with mainly medieval architecture, it is packed with historic sights to enjoy as you wander the narrow winding streets. You enter the village through the 14th century ramparts which lead on to pretty squares filled with fountains and historic palaces, with views over the river Auzon below. Make sure to visit the Romanesque style Chapel of Our Lady of Pareloup, which contains impressive sculptures, and the 17th century Penitents Chapel which is now home to a history and folk museum. For something a little different, head to the local cemetery where you can see 60 Gallo-Roman Sarcophagus coffins carved from rock, once believed to hold vampires! Mazan is also a great place to grab a bite to eat or shop for fresh produce at the market.

Carpentras is a thriving market town 7km away from the villa and is a fantastic place to visit for shopping, sightseeing and to enjoy an authentic Provençal meal. The town has a unique history as over the centuries it was owned by the Catholic church and the Counts of Provence and only became an official part of France in the 18th-century. Walk around the streets which are filled with terracotta rooftops, gorgeous fountains and Roman architecture. Look out for the imposing 14th-century synagogue which is one of Europe’s oldest and visit the markets which are some of the finest in France. Whether you want to shop for olives, local truffles, fresh vegetables, homewares or clothing, you will find it all here as there are over 300 stalls and different markets held throughout the week.

If you have a sweet tooth then you will love the indulgent sweets, cakes and pastries which the town is known for. Why not tuck in to one over a coffee in a picturesque square? If you are looking for something a little more active, then in the outskirts of the town you can find paragliding, climbing, cycling and walking routes. You could even take a walking tour which takes in some of the nearby wineries.

Another must-see village is Venasque which is a mere 8km away from the house and is described as one of France’s most beautiful villages. Venasque offers amazing views over the rolling hills of the Vaucluse and Mont Ventoux, which has been made famous by the Tour de France. Follow the cobbled streets to see the impressive 6th century Baptistery, the charming the Church of Notre-Dame and the town hall. After seeing the historic buildings, you can listen to the sounds of the fountains and soak in the atmosphere at a little street side café.

A little further afield, the town of Orange (32km) is a great place for a day trip and is well-known for its Roman attractions; see the vast amphitheatre which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Triumphal Arch and the fascinating Roman museum. Orange also has a wealth of shops and restaurants so you can spend a full day there.

Also 32km away is the city of Avignon which is one of the region’s star attractions. Book on to a guided tour to make the most of this enchanting city, which was once home to the Papacy. If you would prefer to look around on your own then the Palais des Papes is the place to start; you will be awe-struck as you step inside the world’s largest Gothic palace which was once the Pope’s residence and is packed with amazing frescoes.

We had a dream holiday. We booked the house with a small group of friends (children and adults) during the hottest part of the year. In spite of the heat the house was always cool. It is big and decorated with a lot of taste and simplicity. The bedrooms very nice, the kitchen very large and very well equipped, with two lounges. The highlight was the swimming pool that really allows you to swim with an incredible view of nature. Finally a big thank you to the owners who made us taste their excellent organic wine, and gave great tips to discover the region. We will come back to this house for sure.
