Enjoy a chilled glass of AOC Côtes du Luberon accompanied by local almonds as you sit back on the shaded terrace overlooking the verdant garden and swimming pool. This Luberon holiday home is in a rural village just outside the picture-perfect village of Lourmarin.  

Le Jardin D’Éte sleeps 6 guests across three double bedrooms. The inviting salon has a large window framing the garden view whilst the open-plan kitchen-diner is well-equipped with a sociable breakfast bar and a bean-to-cup coffee machine. Take your coffee out to the shaded terrace to enjoy as you gaze out towards the distant Luberon hills.

A ground floor bedroom with its own shower room can be found next to a little office whilst there are two attractive doubles upstairs, both sharing a bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and walk-in shower.

Spend lazy days in the summer garden, relaxing on the poolside sun loungers or cooling off in the 12m long private swimming pool. There is a terrace for al-fresco dining by the barbecue and a lovely outdoor lounge. The trees and flowers in the garden add to the Provençal ambience of this pretty family home.

On the edge of a small rural village, you can stroll to a local restaurant open four evenings a week or continue on towards Lourmarin, around 2.5km away on foot via a country lane. As you wander around Lourmarin you will soon realise how it is classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Come across gorgeous cafes terraces, high-end restaurants, little galleries and delightful shops, not to mention the wonderful Friday morning market.

Pass cherry orchards, olive groves and vineyards as you explore the area by car. Drive to the idyllic villages of Ansouis and Cucuron, both home to Michelin starred restaurants, discover horse-riding nearby, follow cycling and hiking trails and canoe or kayak along the Durance River.

Head further north into the Luberon and visit perched villages such as Ménerbes, Gordes and Roussillon or venture south to spend the day pottering around the enchanting town of Aix-en-Provence. You could even head as far south as the Mediterranean coast with seaside gems such as Cassis just over an hour away, also the gateway to the incredible Parc national des Calanques.

Le Jardin D’Éte is located on the edge of a small rural village just outside the picture-perfect village of Lourmarin in the Luberon region of Provence. Arrive into Marseille or Avignon Airports or if travelling by train from Paris, Gare d’Aix en Provence TGV is around a 45-minute drive away.

Stroll into the heart of the local village around 350m away where you will find old shuttered houses along a tree-lined road alongside the village restaurant (usually open four evenings a week and Sunday lunchtime).

Lourmarin (2.5km) is a short drive or leisurely walk away following a country road. Classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps as you explore the idyllic lanes in Lourmarin coming across atmospheric café terraces, excellent restaurants and little shops. The Friday morning market is a delight, showcasing a wealth of delicious local fruit (cherries, apples, pears, melons, grapes etc) and vegetables as well as olive oil, AOC Côtes du Luberon wine, herbs, honey and more.   

Drive past vineyards, fruit orchards and olive groves as you explore the surrounding countryside. There are canoeing/kayaking opportunities along the Durance River whilst locals love to swim at the Étang de la Bonde (17km) in the summer, also a lovely spot for shady walks and fishing.

Other picture-perfect villages nearby include Ansouis (13km), another one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ with its Michelin starred restaurant, impressive castle and church. Cucuron (10km) is also delightful with a gorgeous Tuesday morning market, century-old plane trees, a pretty square and bassin alongside another Michelin starred establishment.

Discover wonderful walking and hiking routes alongside a variety of cycling trails from easy to challenging. Heading further north into the Luberon, visit perched villages such as Ménerbes, Roussillon and Gordes. There are many wine-tasting opportunities across the Luberon including some highly regarded wine châteaux close near Lourmarin.   

Aix-en-Provence (39km) is a lovely day out with its beautiful architecture, museums, parks and inviting shops – embrace the charm of this iconic Provençal town, then be inspired by the surrounding Sainte-Victoire landscapes that so inspired Paul Cézanne.

Set in an attractive garden, this is a great location on the edge of a small village and just over 2km from hilltop Lourmarin. This part of Provence is loved for its beautiful landscapes, ideal for cycling, walking, horse-riding and various other family-friendly days out.

See what summer events may be taking place at Château de Lourmarin and check out the castle’s treasure hunt for youngsters. In the village itself there is a pleasant playground for little ones next to a skatepark and football field.

Around a 15-minute drive away is Parc Grimmland, a theme park with a variety of attractions for children of all ages (aged 2+). Further south is the popular Village Des Automates attraction park, not far from Zoo Barben, both around half an hour by car.

Salon-de-Provence is home to a tree-top adventure centre, Accro Passion (32km) or there is one near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse just under an hour away. If you enjoy watersports then look out for canoeing and kayaking opportunities either along the Sorgue River (near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse) or closer to home on the Durance.
