Overview
When swimming in the heated pool, sipping an apéritif by the poolside bar or playing pétanque beside the olive trees, it’s hard to imagine that Saint-Rémy-de-Provence’s historic centre is merely a 5-minute stroll away.
Up to 10 guests can stay in this beautiful bastide which exudes historic charm alongside contemporary style. The open-plan living, dining and high-end kitchen space has been thoughtfully designed with pretty windows leading out to the rustic garden terrace whilst each of the five doubles have been decorated with subtle colours and an air of simple elegance. Three of the bedrooms feature modern en suite shower rooms and there is a family bathroom for the remaining two doubles to share.
Embrace the authentic surroundings of the gorgeous garden whether reading in the summer room, dining al-fresco on the terrace, relaxing by the fountain or admiring the ancient oaks. Cool off in the salt-water swimming pool before kicking back at the poolside bar and lounge or working out in the fitness room. All of this and just a stone’s throw from Saint-Rémy - this is such an enchanting place to spend time.
Following Van Gogh’s footsteps, wander into the heart of the town for charming bistros, little shops and art galleries across its historic quarter. The bustling Wednesday morning market is a delight to explore as stalls fill the narrow lanes selling fruit, vegetables, cheeses, herbs, olives, honey, lavender and a wealth of other local produce as well as clothes and homeware. Head there early and enjoy a coffee on a café terrace as you soak up the summer ambience.
Elsewhere across Les Alpilles, gaze at the incredible views from the hilltop village of Les Baux-de-Provence, potter around the characterful lanes of Eygalières, enjoy lunch out in Paradou and even venture to the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Avignon, reached in just under a 30-minute drive.

Location
About the surrounding area of Bastide D’IrisIn a town centre location, Bastide d’Iris is around a 5-minute stroll from the historic heart of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, one of Provence’s must-see destinations in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of southern France.
There are restaurants as well as Saint-Rémy’s tennis club within a very short stroll whilst the nearest large supermarket can be reached in just over 10 minutes on foot. The town itself is a joy to potter around as you come across café terraces, charming bistros, art galleries and delightful little shops. Following the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh, Saint-Rémy is an art lovers dream – look out for artistic markets as well as exhibitions taking place at Musée Estrine (500m).
Meanwhile, gastronomes will adore the Wednesday morning market as stall holders line the narrow lanes of the old quarter selling delights from the region from olives, cheeses and charcuterie to homeware, clothes and lavender products, not to mention a wealth of seasonal fruit and vegetables. Wander to the market extra early and truly appreciate the ambience as you enjoy a morning coffee and pastries before the tourist crowds arrive.
Wine-lovers can find vineyards close to Saint-Rémy whilst the wineries of the Luberon and the Rhône valley are also within reach - Châteauneuf-du-Pape is just over a 40-minute drive away, for example.
Active guests can hire bikes to explore the pretty roads of Les Alpilles, passing farmland, olive groves, pine forests and other glorious landscapes. There is also a little towpath by the Canal des Alpines which runs across the south of the town as well as other wonderful cycling, biking, horse-riding and walking opportunities across the region and beyond.
Another must-see is Les Baux-de-Provence (11km), one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, perhaps combined with lunch out in the picturesque Provençal village of Maussane-les-Alpilles, known for its olive oil production.
Eygalières (12km) is another idyllic village of Les Alpilles and hosts a charming Friday morning market or venture further east towards the undulating scenery of the Luberon and its iconic perched villages such as Gordes (37km), Ménerbes (35km) and Roussillon (45km).
History lovers may wish to spend time in Tarascon (16km) by the banks of the Rhône as well as visit the small but wonderful city of Avignon (19km), home to two of France’s impressive UNESCO World Heritage sites, Le Pont d’Avignon and Palais des Papes.

Region
The Provençal way of life is one that’s deeply tempting for anyone who’s been feeling the need to get away from it all. This is a place where the Mediterranean weather turns fields of corn and lavender into picture-perfect backdrops, where you can sip your locally bought wine and enjoy the landscapes before heading out and tackling them head-on with a range of great activities for families, groups of friends and adventurous foodies. Better yet, our range of villas in Provence and chateaux and holiday homes in the Côte d’Azur make the perfect base to explore this enchanting region!
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesIt’s wonderful to be a very short stroll to the historic heart of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence for your morning croissants, lunches out on café terraces or an ice-cream break away from the swimming pool. Art lovers can follow Van Gogh’s trail around the town whilst youngsters will enjoy the playground at Place Joseph-Mauron.
The historic charm of nearby Les Baux-de-Provence will hopefully enchant all ages, especially with its amazing chateau. Pick up a ‘treasure-map’ tour from the tourist office to explore the hilltop village’s narrow lanes. Carrières de Lumières is located just outside Les Baux where artwork is projected on to quarry walls.
Adventurous families should head to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse for canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue, some wonderful hiking routes as well as a tree-top activity centre near the picturesque village. Treasure seekers may enjoy the little antique stores and waterwheels in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, around half an hour away.
A little closer to home, L'Arche de Méo is a little farm where you can feed the animals or venture south to the much larger Zoo Barben, also home to a large playground.
