Overview
Villa Soprano is a laid-back getaway nestled in the countryside just a 20-minute drive from the town of Périgueux in the Dordogne region of southwestern France. Enveloped by seemingly endless trees, rolling plains and twisted olive trunks, the charming home offers plenty of space for an unspoiled holiday.
Traditionally furnished and exuding original character in the form of exposed brick walls, fireplaces and wooden beams that lend a fairytale charm, the delightful house sleeps up to 12 guests across four bedrooms and a mezzanine floor just above the dining room. While you can expect a lot of characterful décor throughout, the bathrooms are all finished to a modern standard with walk-in showers and plenty of light. The kitchen is huge and has everything budding chefs need to bring culinary dreams to reality, and there's enough seating in the house to enjoy a nice meal surrounded by loved ones.
Outside, the numerous terraces and vast garden make for a romantically lit affair, with plenty of space for al-fresco dining, or sipping a cocktail by the pool. Whether you want to find a quiet spot away from the crowd or just looking to stretch your legs, wander around the spacious garden and walk all the way to the small fishing pond where you can spread out a blanket in the grass and doze off to the melody of birds chirping from the nearby trees.
The closest village is just a 5-minute drive away and has a restaurant to satisfy sudden food cravings. Alternatively, set off on a wholesome stroll through the backcountry and explore more tiny villages fringed by pleasant hills and farmland. Apart from castles and ruins, you can also practice your swing at golf courses such as the Golf Originel du Sorbier and peek into prehistoric caves dotted along the Vézère River.
Périgueux is just over a 20-minute drive away, making it perfect for a day trip whenever you please. The lovely town is known for its landmark Saint-Front Cathedral, with domes, and turrets and boasts museums, fascinating ruins and an abundance of restaurants and cafés where you can taste local dishes and soak up the atmosphere.
The capital of the most extensive fine-wine region in the world, Bordeaux is an excellent choice for those wanting to learn more about history and art before sipping great vintages from sun-flooded rooftops and terraces. There's also a plethora of sights worth checking out, alongside markets and picture-worthy squares for people-watching.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa SopranoSet in 2000m2 of private land with an adjacent fishing pond and tranquil surroundings, Villa Soprano offers an unforgettable stay where you can reconnect with family and friends while being surrounded by the most wholesome environment. The Dordogne area in southwestern France is set between the Loire Valley and Pyrenees mountains and boasts an incredible landscape with alluring villages, towns and other fascinating places worth visiting.
Just outside the property, relax by the small fishing lake which offers a sense of tranquillity, allowing you to forget the stress and strains of everyday life. Although the house is enveloped by farmland with only a couple of other holiday homes nearby, you don't have to worry about being totally secluded – the nearest convenience store is a 10-minute drive away, and more restaurants can be found in the nearby villages such as La Douze and Vergt.
The best way to embark on adventures on the Dordogne River is to start your day by visiting one of the nearby villages and towns such as Domme. Classed as one of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, it hosts an array of shops and rentals where you can find canoes and kayaks, or even participate in a group paddle-boarding session. Famous for its fortifications, it has a bustling marketplace Place de la Halle, loved by both tourists and locals alike for its excellent produce.
Périgueux, located in the heart of Perigord takes you back to the halcyon days of the Roman Empire with its extensive remains and historical landmarks with admiring. The city is also full of interesting museums, such as the Musée Gallo-Romain Vesunna with a contemporary setting for locally excavated archaeological finds related to ancient Roman life. Stone Age tools and objects are to be discovered in the Musée d'art et d'archéologie du Périgord, while the best views are granted from Voie Verte De St Georges – an observation deck looking out to a flower-strewn Pont Des Barris bridge.
Nature and outdoor lovers shouldn't miss the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park, located a 1.5 hour drive away. The far-stretching landscape is a typically raised limestone plateaux, forming cliffs and canyons in places, interspersed by small areas of woodland, ideal for walks and hikes as well as overnight camping for those who looking for a real adventure. It's no surprise that among the sky-high trees, you can discover medieval ruins and pretty hilltop villages such as Rocamadour. Built on the edge of a cliff with the river at the bottom of the gorge, it's a popular tourist spot due to the Cité Réligieuse complex of religious buildings, accessed via the Grand Escalier staircase.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesWhether it's hiking through ancient forests and discovering centuries-old villages or canoeing or kayaking along the Dordogne River, there's something in the region to entertain children of all ages.
A family trip to Périgueux is an excellent idea to keep everyone entertained. Here you can visit the Vesunna Gallo-Roman Museum which contains an excavated Roman house with the remains of baths and murals and in front of it, the Tour de Vesoné, part of a ruined Gallo-Roman temple. Alternatively, head to the Périgord Museum of Art and Archaeology with ancient artefacts, African sculptures and modern paintings that are set to fascinate curious little ones.
The Dordogne River offers a wealth of opportunities for some family fun, such as canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and even hopping on an organised boat trip that lets you see historic bridges and admire the surroundings.
For more splashing around and to cool down on a hot summer day, spend a day at a fun aquapark Quercyland. This complex is located less than a 1-hour drive away and boasts adventure rides, boating and a labyrinth alongside relaxation areas with sun beds for parents wishing to relax.

Relaxing stress free holiday
We had a fantastic time staying at Villa Soprano in August, the grounds are beautiful and the pool simply marvellous. The owners are lovely hosts and couldn’t do enough for you, though they never intruded, we left feeling we were leaving behind friends.
The setting is very peaceful and the surrounding towns and villages well worth a visit. I would thoroughly recommend this villa for those wanting a relaxing stress free holiday. I hope to return some day for some more delicious Cepes soup.
