With spacious lawns, mature trees and pretty terraces, there are plenty of spots to sit and relax and take in the natural surroundings. Or simply enjoy the countryside views from the elevated al-fresco terrace, a lovely spot for a morning coffee or pre-dinner sundowner.

Inside you with feel the warm and welcoming ambience in this homely setting with some lovely original features such as tiled floors, exposed beams and a cosy fire-place in the living-dining room. The typically French kitchen has everything you need to prepare a feast using the finest ingredients from the local markets and the four bedrooms have been thoughtfully styled and furnished. With newly renovated shower rooms, this is home from home in comfortable and rustic surroundings.

You can stroll to the local village of Sainte-Alvère where there is a highly rated restaurant and a couple of small shops or head to the larger town of Le Bugue (11km) on the Vézère riverside which has a fantastic weekly food market on a Tuesday. The pretty Dordogne villages of Limeuil (12km) and Tremolat (10km) are also within a short drive and both enchanting places to visit.

Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux (35km), heading east to the exquisite town of Sarlat (45km) or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac (42km), Beynac (37km) and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (40km). The Dordogne is known as the valley of 1000 chateaux with endless pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, local markets and spectacular valleys and rivers. Both the Vézère and the Dordogne rivers offer great kayaking, canoeing and unparalleled views of the countryside.

The nearest village of Sainte-Alvère (700m) is a short walk away where you will find a restaurant and shops. It is well known for having one of France's best truffle markets every Monday from December to February and in the summer months the market comes back alive selling local produce.

Also nearby is Le Bugue (11km), a charming market town on the Vézère riverside with narrow winding streets to explore and beautiful buildings to admire. Visit on a Tuesday to experience the bustling market day, then hire canoes on the river or enjoy lunch in one of the many lovely restaurants. The pretty Dordogne village of Tremolat (10km) is also within a short drive and another enchanting place to visit.

The Dordogne and Vézère rivers host a wealth of beautiful villages and towns, many of them classed as France's Plus Beaux Villages such as glorious Monpazier (40km), a bastide town dating back to the 13th century. To the north you have the sophisticated small city of Périgueux (35km), famous for its amazing black truffles and to the east should visit Sarlat (45km) with its maze of medieval narrow streets, lovely squares and amazing restaurants. Not forgetting beautiful Bergerac (32km) to the west with its medieval architecture, narrow streets of boutiques and great restaurants as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins.

Other magical day trips include the Lascaux caves, just outside Montignac (45km) and beautiful Limeuil (12km), where the Vézère meets the Dordogne and you can paddle by the river beach or enjoy some fine views from Parc Limeuil after wandering through the delightful village. In addition, head to as La Roque Gageac (42km), Beynac (37km) and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (40km) for a remarkable day out in the Dordogne.

The whole region is a true haven for nature and sport lovers alike offering a wide array of outdoor activities, from horse-back riding, to tennis, mountain-biking, golfing and watersports, not to mention the number of hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. Children will love the nearby waterparks, visiting the Aquarium du Perigord Noir, exploring prehistoric caves and historic castles or even a magnificent hot air balloon ride across the stunning region. The more adventurous may enjoy go-karting just south of Périgueux or tree-top activities in the forests near Sarlat.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.
