Stay in contemporary charm at this Dordogne family villa with a heated swimming pool close to the heart of one of France’s most exquisite towns, Sarlat-la-Canéda.

Maison Cabu is a modern holiday home yet it has been designed to look like a traditional Périgord house. It’s pretty garden offers you the opportunity to sunbathe by the heated swimming pool, read a book by the lawn and feast al-fresco making the most of the summer kitchen. It feels private and enclosed with the aroma of rosemary and lavender alongside splashes of summer colour.

Sleeping up to six guests, the open-plan lounge and kitchen-diner gives the feeling of space and light whilst sliding doors lead straight out to the main terrace and garden. Two ground floor bedrooms await, as does a double in the spacious tower-style upper level.

Only 4.5km away is Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of the country’s most loved towns with its beautiful historic architecture, medieval lanes, inviting shops, gastronomic restaurants and bustling markets. Slightly further afield, within a 15-minute drive, you could be pottering around other idyllic destinations such as Domme, La Roque-Gageac and Beynac-et-Cazenac, all three classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ by the banks of the Dordogne River.

Hire bikes and cycle along the voie verte that passes close to the house or enjoy long walks and local hiking trails. To sail along the Dordogne, ride on a traditional Gabarre boat or hire canoes and kayaks; you could even take a hot air balloon ride to admire the impressive landscapes of this wonderful part of south-western France.

Maison Cabu is 4.5km south-east of Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of the Dordogne’s most beautiful towns with a fine reputation for its gastronomy.

Just on the edge of the town, yet enjoying a private and semi-rural setting with only a small handful of neighbours, a large supermarket is just under 2km away and there are other local business within a short drive. The family-friendly voie verte cycling path also passes close by – hiring bikes nearby is a wonderful way to explore some of the surrounding landscapes.

Yet the main draw of the area has to be the exquisite town of Sarlat-la-Canéda with its rich heritage, wonderful restaurants and bustling market showcasing the very best Périgord produce including seasonal truffles and foie gras. The most visited town of the region, admire its historic architecture as you explore its beautifully restored medieval lanes and relax with a coffee on Place du Peyrou by the cathedral. As well as the main twice-weekly market, food-lovers will adore the historic covered market open certain days near L’Église Sainte-Marie and, in the height of the summer, look out for the glass lift for views of the town’s rooftops.

Just 4km to the south is the imposing and private Château de Montfort by the banks of Dordogne whilst a little further is Carsac-Aillac (5km), home to a pretty Sunday morning market from mid-June to mid-September, and the picturesque summer gardens, Les Jardins d'eau de Carsac (7km).

You are also well located for visiting some of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ dotted along the banks of the Dordogne such as Domme (11km), La Roque-Gageac (12km) and Beynac-et-Cazenac (14km), home to the incredible Château de Beynac. Look out for traditional gabarre boat rides along the Dordogne as well as canoeing and kayaking opportunities.

A little further afield, venture to the stunning pilgrimage site in Rocamadour (47km), a UNESCO World Heritage site, learn all about the pre-historic caves at the Lascaux IV Centre International de l'Art Pariétal (30km) or visit more of the Dordogne gorgeous villages such as Les Eyzies, Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère and Limeuil, all within a 30 to 40-minute drive.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

  • A Relaxing Holiday

    on 26/10/2023

We left Sarlat this morning at 7:30 am and arrived home around 6:00 pm. Enjoyed a nice and relaxing holiday. The house itself and the roof are very nice, many appliances like at home, which is wonderful of course and normal functioning comes naturally in the household.

We left the house tidy and as instructed.
Thank you for the easy communication and great service in the run-up to our stay!

  • Wonderful

    on 20/08/2023

Nice house in a quiet location, with lots to do in the surrounding area.

  • Beautiful house

    on 19/07/2023

Beautiful house, kept to a high standard, with plenty of equipment to enjoy a holiday and lots of coming utensils.
    Fabulous pool!

  • Just perfect!

    on 22/06/2023

We had a lovely stay at Maison Cabu and would definitely recommend!

The house was very much a home from home, modern, clean, comfortable and suitable for six adults. Plenty of parking and outside space, plus we enjoyed the air conditioning and the electric shutters to keep the house cool and dark!

Very much a peaceful location with no noise and a bonus private gated entrance. The owner's sister greeted us upon arrival and departure and was on hand throughout the stay, and when we needed her assistance, she was lovely and approachable. We did spend a lot of our time outside and made use of the pool, BBQ and loungers.

The weather was great and we enjoyed a few cloudy days out exploring the Dordogne region.
    Thanks again!

  • Can't wait for next year!

    on 08/03/2023

We had a great holiday and are delighted to be back next year.

Very beautiful region and the villa corresponded to our expectations, very quiet. And close to many tourist and sporting interests.

    Can't wait for next year.

  • Magnificent house!

    on 01/02/2023

The villa is ideally located, because it is very close to the center of Sarlat, and at the same time quiet. The place is relaxing. It is a magnificent house, well laid out, in which nothing is missing!

The villa must be a house with even more potential in spring, summer and autumn. It really makes you want to come back!

The host was available and very attentive. I did not fail to thank her immediately after our return. Again a big thank you and see you soon.

  • A wonderful week!

    on 09/09/2022

We had a wonderful week. What a great house, fully equipped!

  • Definitely worth repeating!

    on 03/08/2022

Fantastic nice house. All facilities available. This house deserves a big 9. Definitely worth repeating.

  • A wonderful holiday!

    on 17/10/2021

Last Saturday I came home from a wonderful holiday. What a great house! And what a sweet sister of the owner! The conversation went in fluent English which was very nice.

More than a hospitable welcome in the (once again) lovely house!!

The house is fully equipped. Wonderfully spacious (also with 6 people) and a lovely pool. Another satisfied customer. I will definitely contact you again next year!

  • Two weeks of exemplary tranquility

    on 10/10/2021

We spent 2 weeks of exemplary tranquility. All the equipment described was present and more. Awesome lounge during bad weather. Swimming pool at a temperature of 28-29 degrees. Great for being with friends or family. Awesome bedding. Next year have come back for 3 weeks. Not enough time to do everything.

  • A perfect villa in a beautiful location!

    on 19/09/2021

It was a super house and very spacious. Luxuriously finished including wine fridge. We really enjoyed ourselves in and around the house. Fine kitchen, very complete and good cooking equipment. Everything was there, more than we expected. The presence of a washing machine was also great.

The pool was lovely and the terraces were well screened because we like to sunbathe. We didn't notice the people in the house next to us at all. Really a perfect house in a beautiful location.

Compliments on the way of booking and communication. Was very clear and enjoyable. Definitely worth repeating and we will keep an eye on your site for beautiful other houses.

  • A fantastic villa!

    on 05/09/2021

We really had a fantastic week and that is thanks to the beautiful villa, there was really nothing to complain about. Especially that thought was given to make all kinds of stuff and devices available deserves a big compliment.

  • A wonderful week!

    on 14/08/2021

Had a wonderful week with friends and our children. The house is fully equipped and in very good condition! Nice swimming pool with sunbeds, ping pong table, bowling alley and 2 terraces to sit together.

The kitchen is fully equipped and there is also a tap and refrigerator outside the BBQ. In short, we recommend this house to everyone.

The area is very beautiful, but because we could already entertain ourselves so much at the house, we only visited a castle and did a canoe trip.

  • Our holiday was great

    on 25/07/2021

Our holiday was great. The house is fully according to the description and is very fully equipped, well maintained with lots of privacy. The host was waiting for us on arrival.
If we have to choose between Provence or Périgord, choose the latter. The Périgord is more authentic, greener and quieter, but also less far to drive.
Also thank you for the excellent communication and the clear website.

    Some more tips:

    - One excursion that should not be missed is the Gouffre de Padirac.

    - There are beautiful walking and cycling routes nearby to the house.

    - There is a farm nearby where organic vegetables, fruit and bread are sold.

Next year we may well go on holiday again and we keep you recommended.

  • Great holiday!

    on 07/07/2021

The house was very nice and also very clean.
We enjoyed our stay a lot.

  • Thank you!

    on 12/07/2020

We had a great holiday, the house is very nice and well equipped.
