Pool Villa/House Modern
Great Value
Ideal for Kids All Bedrooms En-Suite

In a wonderful location for exploring the Dordogne, this 4-bedroom stone farmhouse with a private swimming pool perfectly combines historic character with contemporary flair, just 5km from the riverside town of Terrasson-Lavilledieu.

Having remained in the same family for four generations, Lafayette has been beautifully renovated with great taste. Exposed wood beams and stone walls add to the century-old home’s Dordogne charm whilst modern additions help to create a welcoming and stylish ambience. The open-plan living space is especially appealing with its sofas and wood-burning fire opening out to a dining area and gorgeous contemporary kitchen.

On a mezzanine level above, overlooking the lounge below, is the first of the four en suite bedrooms, this one boasting a rather luxurious jacuzzi beside the double bed! Three other bedrooms (two doubles and a twin) can be found dotted across Lafayette, each one with an attractively designed en suite shower.

Embrace the tranquillity of the countryside setting as you step outside and enjoy drinks on the terrace, al-fresco meals by the barbecue and swimming in the glorious swimming pool with its sun-loungers and partially walled surroundings. A spring water pond adds to the ambience of this relaxing abode with an outlook of trees and rural landscapes.

Within a short drive you will find yourself in the attractive historic town of Terrasson-Lavilledieu on the banks of the Vézère. Potter around the pretty pedestrianised lanes of its old quarter, take a summer boat ride on a traditional gabarre, enjoy the Thursday morning market near the riverside and visit the Les Jardins de l'Imaginaire, officially classified as a ‘Jardin Remarquable’.

Canoe or kayak along the Vézère in nearby Montignac, head to the famous Lascaux caves, visit the picture-perfect villages of Coly-Saint-Amand and Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère and drive to the impressive Château de Hautefort.

Elsewhere, venture south towards the exquisite town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, only 35km away, with its gastronomic delights found in atmospheric markets and restaurants, and explore the Dordogne River with gems such as Beynac-et-Cazenac, La Roque-Gageac and Domme reached within an hour in this alluring part of the Périgord noir.

Lafayette enjoys a beautiful location in the Dordogne region, just 5km from the historic town of Terrasson-Lavilledieu, a fine location for visiting the many highlights of the Périgord Noir and the Vézère valley, around an hour from the Dordogne’s historic capital, Périgueux.

By the banks of the Vézère, Terrasson-Lavilledieu (5km) is a great base for all the amenities you could need including good-sized supermarkets, shops and restaurants. The pedestrianised old town is full of charm with stone houses and grey slate rooves – as you climb up the hill you can appreciate wonderful vistas of the town. The market takes place by the river on a Thursday morning and you can also look out for seasonal boat rides on board traditional gabarre vessels. Furthermore, make the most of more glorious views when visiting the contemporary gardens, Les Jardins de l'Imaginaire, classified as a ‘Jardin Remarquable’.

Other attractions close by include the magnificent Lascaux caves, close to the picturesque riverside town of Montignac-Lascaux (22km). Even closer is the village of Coly (10km), home to a couple of well-regarded restaurants, and Coly-Saint-Amand (13km), officially classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. Activities across this part of the Dordogne include canoeing or kayaking along the Vézère, hiking, cycling, tennis and golf.

Driving south, you can reach the Dordogne River in around a 45-minute drive where iconic riverside villages and castles are waiting to be explored from Beynac-et-Cazenac (44km) and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle (50km) to La Roque-Gageac (49km) and famous Domme (48km). Come across walking and cycling opportunities, river cruises as well as canoeing and kayaking along one of France’s most famous rivers. A visit to Sarlat-la-Canéda (35km) is also a must, an exquisite Dordogne town loved for its historic architecture, markets and gastronomic restaurants.

Venturing towards the Vézère valley, stop off in the picture-perfect village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (31km) before visiting the fascinating pre-historic sites around Les Eyzies (41km) then perhaps continuing onwards to Le Bugue (53km) and its many family-friendly attractions.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

At the gateway to the Périgord Noir and within easy reach of the many pre-historic sites of the Vézère valley, there are lots of activities to keep families entertained across this part of the Dordogne and beyond.

Start off in nearby Terrasson-Lavilledieu where you can enjoy river cruises along the Vézère valley (usually operating mid-June to end-September) and visit the beautiful gardens and water features at Les Jardins de l'Imaginaire.

The Vézère River is also a good spot for canoeing and kayaking, especially around Montignac which is close to the fascinating pre-historic caves at Lascaux. Further afield, Le Bugue (around an hour away), also on the banks of the Vézère, features a wealth of family attractions including the Aquarium Périgord Noir, Le Parc du Bournat attraction park, Jungle Golf, Le Big Bird adventure park and more.

Slightly closer to home, find tree-top adventures at Préhistobranche with activities for children aged 3+ (age and height restrictions apply), near the pretty village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, the Parc aux Dinosaures Dordogne and Le Parc du Thot.

We had a wonderful 2 weeks at this beautiful house. It is fully equipped and the large garden with its own fishing pond is wonderful to relax in. The owners are very friendly and helpful and are immediately available if there is a problem to give advice for fun trips. And there is plenty to do in the region.
