Ideal for Kids Walk to Village Laptop Friendly Workspace Romantic

Having undergone a very recent renovation, La Feuille Verte is ideal for discerning guests seeking high-end comfort whilst wishing to embrace the charm of the Dordogne. At the same time discover the beautiful walking trails, vineyards, fine gastronomy, bastide towns and idyllic villages of the glorious Pays de Bergerac region.

The attention to detail at this pretty stone cottage is second to none. The owners firmly believe that their guests should feel at home whilst also experiencing the authenticity of their surroundings. As such, expect carefully chosen modern comforts alongside traditional features such as exposed stone walls and wood-beamed ceilings across its inviting living space and elegant kitchen.

There are four bedrooms to choose from, all with luxurious bed linen from high quality brands, alongside two renovated bathrooms with Italian showers. On the ground floor there is a queen-size double and a children’s bedroom with a bunk-bed whilst upstairs there is another double and a twin.

So much care has been taken outside as well. We especially love the summer kitchen with its large barbecue and gorgeous al-fresco dining terrace whilst the garden is such a lovely spot for a morning coffee or glass of local wine. The salt-water swimming pool has a picturesque terrace with comfortable sun loungers for relaxing afternoons chez vous.

In a hilltop position, set in a little hamlet dating back to the 13th century with other pretty houses and a historic church, there is a wonderful walk through the hills and vineyards from La Feuille Verte to Beaumont-du-Périgord. You are also so close to picture-perfect Issigeac, just 7km away, a medieval village known for its Sunday morning market, one of the best in the area.

Visit local wineries, prestigious vineyards, gastronomic restaurants and bustling markets in bastide towns across the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne such as Monpazier, Monflanquin and Villeréal. Spend time discovering the charm of historic Bergerac, canoe, kayak or take a river cruise along the river and explore the undulating scenery on bike or horse-back.

A little further afield, visit iconic Dordogne châteaux and riverside villages such as Limeuil, Domme and La Roque-Gageac, experience the culinary treasures of Sarlat-la-Canéda or you could even venture to the famous vineyards of Saint-Émilion and Bordeaux before returning to the slow-pace of life surrounded by the bucolic landscapes of the Périgord Pourpre.

La Feuille Verte is in a small hamlet in the Dordogne countryside around 25km south-east of Bergerac, ideally situated close to some of the Dordogne’s prettiest villages from nearby Issigeac to Beaumont-du-Périgord and Monpazier. Not to mention Monflanquin and Villeréal to the south in the Lot-et-Garonne.

The little hamlet is full of charm with just a small handful of houses and a historic church. It’s an absolutely fantastic area for keen hikers with many signposted trails across the region including a wonderful trail between the hamlet and Beaumont-du-Périgord, passing vineyards and hilly landscapes, once part of the pilgrimage route from Périgord to Rocamadour. There are also plenty of horse-riding, cycling and mountain bike opportunities, all superb ways to appreciate the glorious scenery of the southern Dordogne, as well as canoeing, kayaking and river cruises along the Dordogne in and around Bergerac.

Located within the Bergerac wine region, visit local family wineries as well as the renowned vineyards close to Bergerac, including Château de Monbazillac (22km). Discover the fine gastronomy of the area with many excellent restaurants alongside atmospheric markets in local towns and villages. The Sunday morning market in nearby Issigeac (7km) is especially delightful, a picture-perfect medieval village with winding lanes and ancient houses. The village is home to charming café terraces and a couple of highly regarded restaurants.

Beaumont-du-Périgord (10km) is an attractive bastide town dating back to the 13th century with restaurants, cafes and pretty shops whilst Monpazier (21km) is classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and considered to be one of the Dordogne’s most beautifully preserved villages.

A little further afield, other Dordogne gems include Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (45km) with its famous Saturday morning market, the gorgeous village of Limeuil where the Dordogne and Vézère converge, and the iconic Dordogne châteaux and riverside villages near Domme (65km) and La Roque-Gageac (57km), both around an hour away by car.

Driving south into the Lot-et-Garonne, spend time exploring historic Villeréal (14km) with its medieval market hall (look out for the weekly night market in the height of the summer) and 13th century Monflanquin (28km), yet another bastide town classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages'.

Region

The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.

The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.

The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

South of the Dordogne River, the beautiful landscapes of the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne are waiting to be explored with plenty of activities to keep all ages entertained.

Keen walkers will love this region with many sign-posted trails including a wonderful hike between the hamlet and Beaumont-du-Périgord. Meanwhile, there are horse-riding and mountain biking opportunities nearby as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Dordogne. Another way to appreciate the beauty of the Dordogne River is by taking a river cruise on a traditional gabarre vessel from Bergerac.

There is lots to do around Bergerac including go-karting and little boat rides on a pretty lake at Port Miniature. Zoo Refuge de Mescoules, around half an hour drive away, is a small zoo with a variety of animals whilst nearby Château de Bridoire (22km) is one of the region’s most popular family attractions with its family-friendly forest maze and games dating back to medieval times – a great day out for every age.

Elsewhere, Parc en Ciel is a popular leisure park with tree-top adventure, located around half an hour away, or discover AccroZarbres, just north of Bergerac, with accrobranching trails for various ages.

Reviews

  • Un excellent séjour

    on 10/08/2023

  • A wonderful stay!

    on 04/08/2023

We absolutely loved our stay! The owners were fantastic hosts, brilliant check in and communication. The house is immaculate, well equipped with everything you could possibly need and beautiful. Furnishings are slick and new. The garden is a haven, pool is fab and outdoor kitchen was brilliant. We loved visiting the local towns and experiencing the local festivals. We will be back! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

  • Maison très charmante

    on 25/07/2023

  • Maison magnifique

    on 04/07/2023
