Set between Bordeaux and Bergerac, step into a world of old-fashioned charm at this historic château in the most glorious of grounds with a heated swimming pool, close to the banks of the Dordogne River and only 9km from the characterful market town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande.
Stroll through the 11th-century tower into the beautiful gardens and feel the sense of history all around you. It’s thought that the château’s origins also date as far back as the 11th and 12th centuries and its distinctive towers were added in the 1700s. Much of the château’s heritage remains as you can see from its stone spiral staircase and grand fireplaces whilst the home has been furnished with a melange of new and old, creating a classic yet authentic ambience across its living spaces and five en suite bedrooms. We especially love the warmth of the traditional kitchen and the salon with its graceful décor, the heart of this welcoming abode.
Outside, the vast grounds are a joy to spend time in whether swimming in the heated pool, relaxing beneath the century-old plane trees or following the 2km trail around the property by the little stream and through the woodland. Doze in the hammock between the trees, then feast en famille at the huge table and benches in the shade of the giant oak. As evening nears, watch the sun set over the surrounding farmland.
Hop on the château’s bikes and you will reach the Dordogne River in less than 2km and a little further is a picturesque riverside village and bar. A wealth of restaurants can be found within a short drive, many in the gorgeous market town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, home to one of the Dordogne’s largest and most beautiful markets on a Saturday morning.
Bergerac and Bordeaux await for fantastic days out, as do other gems of the Gironde, Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne regions such as Duras, Eymet and Castillon-la-Bataille. Not forgetting exquisite Saint-Émilion with its UNESCO World Heritage vineyards, one of the most enchanting hilltop towns of south-western France and reached in just half an hour from Château Des Seigneurs.

Region
The pace of life in the Dordogne is languid, laid back and positively infectious. Relax in bucolic beauty as you drift along the Dordogne River, or wander among the forests and hillside of the Périgord Natural Park.
The foodie scene too, is a relaxed affair. Take your time over your lazy lunches of local duck, black truffles and goats cheese. If you’re feeling energetic, you can even hunt for them yourself. The wine here is second to none, with infamous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chenin Blanc all having a huge presence here.
The Dordogne is also brimming with history. Castles and chateaux are scattered throughout the region, among the enchanting medieval villages. History of an altogether more ancient sort can also be explored in the incredible prehistoric cave drawings of Lascaux and Grotte de Rouffignac.

When did you become the owner?
I received this property as an inheritance from my grandmother only 3 years ago. She got it as a wedding gift from a second husband in 1975 and used it as a vacation house very often.
I am trying to maintain it in the condition I received it and improve it before I transmit it to my daughters.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
While growing up, I spent several summer vacations there as a child playing Knight and Queen in the park and tower.
Now, I love seating down in the living room looking deers and bores running across the fields or taking a walk in the forest all the way to the top looking at the view over the Dordogne valley.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
One of the towers of the castle was cut half-way (as well as his head) as a sign of infamy for raising against the king of France.
The wife of our previous guardian told us she encountered several times the (friendly) ghost of the wife of a previous chevalier who killed her for marital infidelity!
During WWII, several Jewish families hid in the barn on their way to Free France only a few kilometres away at the time.
Old timers tell us a cellar was accessible under the castle with a secret tunnel to escape in case the castle was over run. To this day, we are trying to find the entrance/access to the hidden cellar.
An old prehistorical cave can be found on the hill, trace of first human settlement in the region.
For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…
Must do?
Saturday market in Saint-Foy-La-Grande, one of the nicest and largest in the region
Kayaking on Dordogne
Flight over wineyards from local aeroclub
Renactment of battle of Castillon
Must eat?
Foie gras obviously
Duck confit
Potatoes Sarladaises
Gratton pâte
Triquendilles on BBQ with mustard (if you intestine)
Wines from around the castle (literally around!)
We can organize great Lamb Mechoui for large groups
Must see?
Visit other historical castles in the region (Montaigne, Chateau de Monbazillac, Chateau de Bridoire…)
Visit Saint-Emilion village and surrounding properties
Go and spend a day shopping in Bordeaux
Go and spend a day (or two) to Cap-Ferret swim in Ocean or cruise on Bassin d’Arcachon (Cabanes Chanquet, Dunes du Pyla, etc…)
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Our castle is very secluded and quiet, so take the time to relax under our ancestral trees or by the pool, read a good book or go listen to our great collection of classical albums in the office with windows open on wine yards surrounding the property, take morning or end of day walk up the hill through the forest and if you are quiet and pay attention you might cross path with a deer or a bore. And if you are home sick, you can knock on our neighbors door next door or across the street, they are all English!
Don't miss out! Reserve now and get a full refund if you change your mind within 48hrs.
