Walk to Beach

Those searching for luxury secluded accommodation and incredible panoramic views just steps away from your own private beach, need look no further than Cala Lighthouse. Carved into the cliffs over the Adriatic Sea, and accessible only by jeep (the use of which is included in your stay), this stunning two-storey stone-crafted villa built-in 1873 accommodates up to 8 guests across 4 bedrooms and is bursting with original features and stylish modern amenities.

Entering this stunning square stone building guests will instantly notice the light airy atmosphere, exposed beams, sprays of pale brickwork, and floors of white wood or light stone. The living area is decorated white throughout, punctuated with tones of soft grey and silver, and features a rustic wood-burning stove, and magnificent sea views.

Furniture including armchairs, chest, and table are crafted in distressed wood, and give the room a classic look, with the wall-mounted flat-screen TV adding a modern touch to this small and cosy space. The open plan kitchen/dining area is the heart of this villa; with exposed beams, stunning tiled flooring, and a white colour scheme. The kitchen is well-equipped with all modern amenities including electric oven, fridge freezer, and stylish units in white and pale olive, which offer plenty of storage space. An incredible stone plinth island has been converted into an extra food preparation storage area, and the windows of this room look out over the beautiful lush surroundings. A small stone step takes you to into the dining area, the decor and style of which flows seamlessly from the kitchen area. The decor here is fresh and white and there is a stunning chandelier, a dining table that seats 8 guests, and a cosy sofa in front of the wall-mounted flat-screen TV - the perfect place to curl up with a morning cuppa before preparing breakfast.

Cala Lighthouse features 3 double bedrooms, 2 with their own en-suite bathroom, and a twin room, which shares a bathroom with the third double. Each bedroom is stylishly decorated in the same colour palette as the rest of the villa, with plenty of fresh white shades, light-coloured stone and wooden floors. Linens are crisp and white, and furniture is handsomely crafted in white wood or the lightest olive tones. The bedrooms are spacious and flooded with light thanks to the huge beautiful windows which offer guests the most stunning sea views. The bathrooms all consist of walk-in rain head showers with separate hand-held shower attachments. The suites are all sparkling white, with tiled walls and floors in tile or natural stone, and there are framed mirrors, storage facilities and towel rails for your convenience.

Stepping outside guests will marvel at the incredible surroundings and views, which are worth the stay at Cala Lighthouse alone! There is a terrace and a shaded outside dining area that seats 8, as well as a charcoal bbq to create a unique alfresco dining experience. Hammocks, sun loungers, and daybeds are all available so that guests can relax in the sun and soak up the atmosphere. Situated just 10 metres from the Villa is a small secluded private pebble beach, sheltered by the rocks and perfect for enjoying a glass of famous Istrian Malvasia while the Adriatic laps at your feet.

What you should know…

  • One of the four double bedrooms is situated on the ground floor and has en-suite shower facilities; ideal for those who might have trouble navigating the stairs to the first floor
  • There are no steps out into the yard area, although there is one small step from the kitchen area to the dining area. The yard is mostly rocky, so the ground may be fairly uneven in some places
  •  Croatia’s beaches are mostly all nudist-friendly throughout the entire season, and some all year round

Cala Lighthouse is located up on the cliffs, and accessible only by jeep one is provided for you and enables you to explore the Istrian peninsula, the largest in the Adriatic sea. The indented coastline is popular with those seeking sun and sea, thanks to its clear sparkling waters and stunning beaches; predominantly small and consisting of pebbles and shingle, although the Istrain coast is home to some of Croatia’s few sandy beaches too!

The town of Rakalj is just a short drive from the villa, and is famous for its traditional pottery, skilled sailors and fishermen, as well as many cultural and historical sights including the 18th-century Baroque parish church and the Rakalj castle ruins. The surroundings are rich in flora and fauna and attract those keen to hunt or hike, as well as those who want to sample the delicacies of the region in the restaurant ‘Sveti Mikula’. The port boasts a well-equipped diving centre which caters to both experienced divers and beginners. Here you can discover sunken ships and explore underwater caves and cliffs.

Istria's diverse and unspoiled landscapes will be the first thing to capture your attention! The region is renowned for its lush green hills, rolling vineyards, and enchanting coastline: the stunning scenery is a playground for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and beachgoers alike.

Offering a remarkable 445 kilometres of pristine coastline, including tranquil coves and sandy beaches, visitors can find plenty of secluded spots to soak up the sun. Istria's rich history is woven into the fabric of its towns and cities. An ever popular choice for tourists is the impressive port city of Pula, full of quaint town squares and local restaurants, and home to one of the most well-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world. This ancient arena, known as the Pula Arena, is a testament to Istria's Roman heritage and hosts numerous events, including concerts and film festivals.

The medieval towns of Rovinj and Motovun enchant visitors with their cobbled streets and historic charm. The Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a stunning example of early Christian art and architecture.

You'll find yourself immersed in the local way of life, whether you're exploring ancient towns or enjoying a meal in a family-run tavern.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Cala Lighthouse is appealing accommodation for those with families due to its secluded and private location. Older children will enjoy exploring the grounds, the private beach, and the rocks leading down to the sea. The outdoor dining area offers plenty of shade, perfect for eating outside with youngsters, and high chairs are available if needed.

The areas around the villa mostly consist of shingle and pebble, so very little ones might find it slightly difficult underfoot, however with a bit of help they too will enjoy playing on the private beach and dipping their toes in the sea. The Villa itself offers plenty of amenities to make a stay with children less stressful, including TV and WiFi, and baby cots which are available on request. The open plan layout of the Cala Lighthouse gives children the freedom to roam easily from room to room, although do be aware that there is one small stone step that separates the kitchen and dining areas.

For a relaxing family holiday filled with lounging in the sun, enjoying breathtaking views, and paddling in the sea, Cala Lighthouse has it covered, but for those wishing to venture out a little further, the surrounding areas have plenty to offer. Aquapark Istralandia, located just 5km from the sea is one of the most popular destinations for families visiting the region. Consisting of 24 attractions, 20 different slides and a hydromassage pool for adults, Aquapark Istralandia is the most entertaining waterparks in Istria. The park is also home to the largest wave pool in the Mediterranean, as well as the Free Fall slide which is 27 meters high, the Space Rocket ride - ideal for adrenaline junkies, and the Sea Hole, with stunning visual and audio effects. Little ones will enjoy the water castle and pirate-themed activities, and after all that fun there are a variety of restaurants and bars to try offering grilled meats, salads and fruits.

Reviews

  • We loved our time at the house.

    on 16/05/2023

    Its very private and secluded!
The house is only accessible with a jeep, which a old one was provided. Takes some effort to get there.
    Communication was good!
If your lucky you can watch some dolphins in the sea!

  • Unique experience!

    on 28/10/2022

The location, views, sunrises, and sunsets are breathtaking. The water is cold in October, but listening to the sound of the water was so relaxing. We (5 women) all loved it, but be prepared for the 20 minute ride down the driveway to get to the lighthouse. Slaven and Tijana provide a Land Rover (right hand drive) for the drive down. A regular car will not make it but you can park your car near by. It is quite an adventure! I would highly recommend staying here, it is a completely unique experience.

  • Off grid, back to reality.

    on 30/08/2022

We spent a week of bliss at this incredible location. It’s minimalistic, so be prepared to step back and kick off your shoes. In some ways like extreme glamping! We spent our days lounging on the sun bed overlooking the sparkling Adriatic or diving into the fish filled waves at our doorstep. Our evenings were spent around the fire, grilling fresh fish and local wines. When the lighthouse strobe rolls across the coast and you can see the stars forever into the skies that’s when you know you made the right choice booking this place.

  • Loved

    on 24/06/2022

The place has a special, magical vibe. Everything was perfection. We would love to return one day.
