Location
About the surrounding area of Villa SerynJust off the coast of Croatia, the beautiful island of Brač is one of the largest islands in the Adriatic. Accessible via a direct ferry connection from Split, it’s famous for producing the white stone which was used to construct that city’s landmark Diocletian’s Palace.
A wonderful place for enjoying the great outdoors, Brač impresses with its beaches, vineyards and mountains. You can soak up the best views on the island at Vidova Gora, north of Bol on Brač’s southern coast. At 778m, it’s the highest peak on all the Adriatic islands. Near Bol, you’ll find one of Brač’s most popular beaches – great for surfing, Zlatni Rat is notable for the way it extends into the Adriatic.
On the northern coast, Supetar is the largest town on Brač. Its attractive harbour has more than a few restaurant terraces to get acquainted with, while Supetar’s medieval streets offer shops and cafés, as well as an 18th-century church. The town’s cultural hub is the National Library which includes the Ivan Rendić Gallery, hosting a variety of sculptures and sketches from the famed artist, who was born locally. All sorts of exhibitions, events and concerts also take place at the venue.
Island cuisine is well represented at a number of good restaurants around Supetar, and you can get to know more about local food and its history through organised tasting tours. Among Brač’s favourites are local seafood, lamb and wine, and the island also has its own cake, hrapoćuša, which originated in the village of Dol.
Excursions you could take include a boat trip to the neighbouring island of Šolta, which only takes about 20 minutes from Milna. Be sure to visit the award-winning destination of Maslinica when you arrive, where you will find beautiful pine woods and secluded beaches.
Back on the mainland, Split is surely a must. As well as the huge Diocletian’s Palace complex, which is so large it houses several other notable attractions, streets and squares within its walls, you will want to check out the Riva waterfront and green heart of the city, Marjan Forest Park. You can also explore cultural gems such as the Meštrović Gallery or the Split Gallery of Fine Arts.
It is also possible to take a ferry across to Makarska. This glamorous riviera resort is great for nightlife, beaches and mountain adventures, thanks to its proximity to the mighty Biokovo. You can also eat well in Makarska, whether you choose the waterfront restaurants or one of the traditional konoba taverns dotted around the region.

Brač is an island where the past and present seamlessly intertwine, and the beauty of the landscape is as enticing as its history is enthralling.
Located on the north coast of Brač, and connecting it to the mainland, is the port town of Supetar. It provides a warm welcome to the island, offering an array of cosy cafes serving up strong Croatian coffee and freshly baked pastries. The town’s palm-fringed promenade is a delightful spot for a stroll, and the Romanesque architecture and historic churches are testaments to its enduring history.
Just 40 minutes away, on the south coast of the island, is the idyllic town of Bol, renowned for its beautiful beaches. The most notable is the picture-perfect Zlatni Rat, known as the ‘Golden Horn’ - a stunning natural phenomenon that shifts shape with the tides and winds. The waters here are a dazzling shade of blue, offering a perfect setting for a day of relaxation and water sports.
The Bol Marina is lined with vibrant cafes and restaurants, the perfect place to delight in the local cuisine, including fresh seafood and exquisite Dalmatian wines. Walking along the charming seafront, you'll be immersed in the island's culture, with the scent of lavender lingering in the air from local shops selling handmade products.
Often listed as one of the prettiest towns in Europe, Pučišća is a small coastal town with a big personality, known for its white limestone and beautiful bay. As you wander through the town's enchanting streets, you'll encounter architectural gems built from the island's famous white stone that has been used in iconic structures worldwide, including the White House in Washington, D.C.
For the nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers, Brač offers an array of adventures. From windsurfing and scuba diving in the crystal-clear waters, to hiking the island's trails and cycling through the picturesque countryside, there's no shortage of activities to keep you engaged. Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesBrač is a big enough island to have plenty of excellent beaches. Kids will love Zlatni Rat, which is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. As if that wasn’t special enough, it stretches out over 600m into the sea. If you head to the peak of nearby Vidova Gora, they can take the photo to prove it.
From Zlatni Rat, take a walk down the promenade to the nearby town of Bol. The town also has an inflatable water park sitting on the sea which young children will love, as well as lots of café terraces. West of the town, check out the Cave of the Dragon. It’s worth booking a tour in advance as, once inside, there are various carvings and symbols which are believed to have been created by a 15th-century friar.
Supetar is the main town on the island, so it’s a good place to go for souvenir shopping, and it’s also home to the Cathedral of the Annunciation, which has a good collection of art and artefacts. To the west of the town, in Sutivan, you’ll find a nature park with a small zoo, botanical gardens, playgrounds and lots of activities which is a great choice for young children.
A boat trip to nearby Šolta island is bound to be a popular choice, or you could cross to the impressive Blue Cave, or blue sea grotto, which has become one of the area’s major visitor attractions. Alternatively, stay on Brač and venture to the Olive Oil Museum in Skrip, about 15 minutes’ drive from Supetar. As well as learning all about the production of the product on the island, you can enjoy a fantastic lunch in the restaurant – the ideal introduction to Brač’s highly regarded cuisine.
There’s an enormous amount to see on the mainland, with Split particularly good for family attractions. Kids’ favourites like Froggyland and the Split Aquarium provide alternatives to the huge, and hugely popular, Diocletian’s Palace, plus there’s Znjan Beach, Marjan Hill and an inventive chocolate store to enjoy. Omiš is just down the coast and specialises in pirate-themed adventures and watersports on the River Cetina. You can also enjoy dinner Bedrock-style at its Flintstones-themed restaurant, tucked away in the mountains above the town.
