Maplewood Barn’s 10 acres of meadows and woodlands are as wonderful to explore as they are conducive to privacy. The owners operate a turtle rescue sanctuary and will be glad to provide a “Turtle Tour” where they take guests to visit the ponds and talk about the intrigue and necessity of turtle conservation.

Located just outside the lovely Bedfordshire village of Colmworth with its charming church and community centre. The nearby Colmworth Golf Club is great for anyone who like to spend their vacation time on the links.

Owner Profile

Owners
Debby and Jeff

How long have you owned the property?
We built it during Covid, and we have been offering holiday rentals for 3 years.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
We fell in love with the 10-acres of land, complete with grassy areas, ponds, and woodlands. We built Maplewood Barn from from run-down out-buildings that hadn't seen use in years. We have created a practical smallholding with a private stable yard and turtle sanctuary.

Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Part of the original building was used for pottery and we have found a number of pieces which were made here decades ago.

Do you have a favourite room in the property?
The spacious communal kitchen, dining, and living room is ideal for bringing together a large group, while also providing cozy nooks for smaller gatherings and intimate conversations.

For anyone coming to stay, is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do? We are so well positioned on the border of Cambridgeshire, where the city is a 'must' to visit. We have golf courses, safari parks, zoo's and so much more all within 30-40 minutes of Maplewood Barn.
Really eat? St Neots has some great restaurants but The Plough At Bolnhurst (1.5 miles from us) is out-standing. Please note that bookings are required, and it is a little pricey!
Really see? Cambridge. Guests should go punting and see all the universities and their stunning buildings.

What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Choose to stay in, and you'll discover that the barn is not just a place to sleep, but a welcoming haven where friends and family can truly connect. Whether you're unwinding in the hot tub, enjoying games on the large grass areas, doing some yoga beneath the beautiful rustling trees, or engaging in some friendly competition with the games from our games cupboard — there's something for everyone. Share the joy of cooking a meal together, or have a private chef come in to whip up something special. We believe that your time here will be a blend of relaxation, fun, and the creation of lasting memories with your closest companions.

  • I am so glad we booked to come here

    on 08/01/2024

I am so glad we booked to come here for family weekend birthday Celebrations!! I agree with the other fantastic reviews. Location is beautiful, Barn is designed and furnished so perfectly with fantastic facilities . Love how the living area is all open plan at one end and then you have a long corridor off it with all the beautiful en-suite bedrooms, just perfect for a group. I am in a wheelchair and found there to be great space/access for manoeuvring around and Debby and Jeff had a ramp in situ for me to gain access and even met me on arrival to check all was ok with it! The en-suite bathroom in bedroom 1 is perfectly wheelchair accessible too! We felt completely at home and comfortable straight away as the lovely friendly hosts have the perfect balance of friendliness without being intrusive. They go above and beyond with their personal touches and gifts (home made cake was yum!) and there is literally everything you could need away from home there! Also loved Turtle & Horse Tour

  • What an amazing find this house is.

    on 23/11/2023

So unusual to find a house that has 6 bedrooms, all with their own en suite. It was perfect for our family gathering. Spotlessly clean, well stocked kitchen and the hot tub is an added bonus. Thanks Jeff & Debby for the thoughtful cake, other provisions and turtle sanctuary tour. Hope to come back.

  • A brilliant place to host a get together.

    on 25/10/2023

All rooms en suite with a great shared space. Plenty of everything you could possibly need with a thoughtful range of items that you may have forgotten e.g. toothbrush. Wonderful hot tub and surrounding outside space including turtle sanctuary.
