Casa Ercilia enjoys a delightful, peaceful location in Los Delfines, just 3.5 km from Ciutadella and only a few metres from the sea. Los Delfines is famous for its Aqua Center waterpark which offers 12,500 square metres of fun for the whole family. There are many thrilling slides and attractions including the Black Hole, Adventure River and various water tunnels, giant slides, pools, a water playground and much more.

Ciutadella gets its name from ‘Citadel’, a fortified city. There are still some remnants of the old walls, especially around the harbour. The town’s inner courtyards are beautiful with fountains and draping colourful flowers. Its working harbour is very busy with small fishing boats, yachts and boat trips. It is lined with some excellent bars and restaurants. If you get to the picturesque harbour early enough you can watch the fishermen bringing in the local catch of the day. You can catch a ferry from Ciutadella to Alcudia in Mallorca.Ciutadella enjoys many elegant streets and many shops. It is known as ‘Vella I Belli’ (‘Old and Beautiful’) and it is easy to see why. It is Menorca’s second city with an engaging old quarter lined with grand gold-tinged buildings. The medieval streets are filled with palaces, churches and fortresses as well as its wonderful restaurants and bars. Placa d’es Born is one of the most picturesque squares in the town. Ciutadella celebrates its local festival on 23 and 24 June each year and the party is one of the most spectacular festivals in Menorca.

Calas Picas is a very special, small, narrow cove with a lovely sandy beach and calm, clear water. It is easily accessible on foot but not quite so easy with pushchairs or for those with mobility issues. South of Ciutadella, you can head to some fabulous beaches in the south western corner of Menorca, in particular Cap d’Artrutx, Cala en Bosch and Son Xoriguer.  The sunsets in this dreamy corner of Menorca are sensational and there are excellent watersports to be enjoyed at Son Xoriguer Beach. Cala en Bosch enjoys a fabulous marina that sweeps inland connected to the sea via a narrow channel. Its a wonderful spot for a scenic stroll admiring the speed boats and colourful fishing boats that are anchored. For some thrilling family fun you can visit the brilliant Aquarock waterpark or try your hands at go-karting. You will find some fabulous fish restaurants overlooking the marina.

In the countryside, you will discover the pretty, whitewashed village of Ferreries. It dates back to the 13th century although the main church of Saint Bartholomew was built in the 18th century. Ferreries is an important industrial town for shoes and furniture and boasts a busy Saturday morning market in the Plaza Espana. You can shop for homemade produce, cheese, cold meat specialities, spicy local sausage, pastries, cakes, jams and honey. There are also fabulous handicrafts such as macrame, etched glass, leatherwork and the famous abarca sandals. The fair enjoys the sounds of island music and folklore dance so it is a lovely excursion. Ferreries enjoys some excellent tapas bars, charming boutiques, jewellery shops, leather shops and Mascaro, an international shoe maker. Most of the factories sell direct to the public. The countryside of Menorca is sprinkled with historical monuments and traces of the island’s long history. You will discover talaiots, ancient fortresses which were built around 3000 years ago for defence as well as many rural paths, ancient woodlands, beautiful valleys and gorges. The island’s coastal path Cami De Cavalls is a total wonder with access to beautiful sandy beaches, rocky diving pools and reefs resplendent with sea life.

THE REGION

Ciutadella's historical city is located on Menorca's extreme west coast. It used to be the capital of culture and commerce in Menorca, and although it has not been this for a long while, it is still a very attractive city with a wonderful heritage and real appeal.

Visit Es Born, the historic part of the city. If you like culture and historic churches, medieval-looking streets all accompanied by traditional Spanish restaurants, make sure you take a look on your stay. The mix is perfect with most tastes in music catered and perfect for late-night entertainment.

Ciutadella doesn't have its own beach, but just 3 kilometres away are the small beaches of Cala Santandria and Sa Caleta and further afield are Cala'n Blanes, Cala'n Forcat, Cala Blanca and Cala'n Bosch.

Casa Ercilia is ideal for families. It enjoys open plan living, a garden and pool and is just moments from the beach in Los Delfines. It is very easy to get into the historic town of Ciutadella.

There are so many beaches scattered around the coastline of Menorca together with warm, turquoise seas. Some beaches have rocks to climb and caves whereas others are huge expanses of sand. Impressive watersports centres can be found at Fornells, S’Algar and Son Xoriguer. You can take many boat trips from Ciutadella’s harbour to tour the coastline and stop at hidden beaches. Many of the beaches enjoy vibrant beach bars.

The waterpark is always a huge hit with kids with a variety of calm and scary slides including the Kamikaze and Black Hole slides. Horse riding is popular in Menorca. Its ancient bridle path follows the coastline for 185 km around the island so horse riding is a fantastic way to discover the island. There are some short sections of path that are ideal for children. You will often see the sleek black native Menorquin horses being ridden around the island or performing during fiestas. Son Angel Riding Stables run horse-back tours with some shorter routes suitable for beginners and children as young as four years old. Most of the riding stables on the island offer short pony rides for kids.

Another way to explore Menorca is to take an exciting safari trip. You will discover ancient ruined settlements, woodlands and hills. You will also stop at some fabulous beaches that you many not otherwise see. A local guide will talk you through Menorca’s rich archaeological history. You might even take the trip at sunset when the skies are incredible.

Lloc de Menorca Zoo, roughly 10 minutes from the island’s capital Mahon, boasts a range of native species from the island and exotic animals from all over the world. There are horses, cows, goats, tortoises, fish, birds, exotic animals and reptiles. It features several walks through landscaped enclosures where animals roam free and small children can can touch, hold and feed some of the animals. There is a small museum, a children’s playground and a picnic and barbecue area.

  • Lovely villa in a great location

    on 24/10/2022

We really enjoyed out stay in the villa, it was exactly as described and in a great location just a two minute walk from the nearest cove which was beautiful and the kids really enjoyed trying to catch fish and crabs. Lovely clean pool which we really enjoyed swimming in each morning. Would definitely go again.
