Location
About the surrounding area of Leon PollensaLeon Pollensa is found in the outstanding region of Pollensa, a location that is well recognised for its welcoming atmosphere and unique selection of tourist attractions. If you are looking to fully immerse yourself in the vibrant customs of this culture, the Pollensa Market is a must-see landmark. This market boasts over 300 stalls, compiling an assortment of handmade clothes, bags, and craft items all in one space. There is also a section dedicated to fresh produce, allowing tourists to truly explore Pollensa’s food scene at its original source. The Pollensa Market can be found in the main square of the town centre and occurs every Sunday from 8 am till 1:30 pm.
Placa de l’Almonia is also just a stone’s throw away from the town centre and is considered to be a hidden gem for any European history fanatic. This nuanced square contains a house that was used to care for Pollensa’s poorest citizens during the 14th century. This home was run by wealthy university students who provided essential funds and wheat to the struggling community. Placa de l’Almonia was also used as a battleground on the 30th of May 1550 because violent ambushers attempted to conquer the town. As such, every August, the people of Pollensa hold a beautiful ceremony to honour those who lost their lives defending this idyllic town.
Located just over 5-minutes away from the town centre is Puig de Maria, a phenomenal shrine that sits 330 metres above sea level. At the very top of this hill is an archaic monastery that was built in 1348 to commend and worship the Virgin Mary. In the 18th century, the monastery was completely transformed in order to conform to the Gothic and Baroque styles that were popular at the time. Inside, this significant building is teeming with religious fixtures and artefacts, all of which have been expertly preserved throughout the many centuries. This is an ideal attraction for any tourist who is looking to delve deeper into Pollensa’s far-reaching and alluring history. Locals suggest that it takes around 45-minutes to climb to the peak, making it an enjoyable hike for a majority of guests.

THE REGION
Pollensa, in the north of the island, is an ancient town of attractive narrow streets and an impressive main square, lined with cafés, restaurants and bars, and is just a few kilometres from Port de Pollensa.
The town has several places of interest to visit, including the Roman bridge, signposted ‘Pont Roma’, which is still in use, and the Puig de Pollensa – a small mountain topped by a monastery just outside the town. Here we provide all the information you want to know to make the most of this relaxed yet culturally satisfying inland town.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesPollensa is a deeply vibrant area that accommodates children with its collection of family-friendly attractions. If you are travelling to this region in November, you have a chance to visit the immersive La Fira trade fair. This event maintains a long tradition in Pollensa, where locals and tourists can come to purchase craft items that date back to the 18th century. La Fira first began in 1784 and has been a key part of the calendar for many present-day citizens. Guests can purchase woven bags and traditional clothing items to help remind them of their terrific time at this nuanced fair. La Fira occurs on the second Sunday of November and usually runs until the following Tuesday.
The Alzinaret Caves are located just over 10-minutes away and are a perfect landmark to visit if you are looking to explore a new and fascinating environment. These caves date all the way back to 1600 BC and host a wide variety of intriguing artefacts for the whole family to discover at their own pace. Although these caves have a very long history, they were first recorded in 1927 by acclaimed British archaeologist Wilfred Hemp. As a result, there is a specific cave named Number 7 of Hemp that acts as a shrine to both his bravery and dedicated work ethic. There are around 14 caves in total to discover, and there is even a collection of benches located outside of the caves for guests who do not feel comfortable going inside.
The Joan March Gardens are another striking landmark that further emphasises the natural beauty of this region. These wondrous gardens were founded in the late 1980s as a way to honour the eldest son of the March family, a long line of entrepreneurs that helped to launch Pollensa into a prosperous economic boom. Here, guests can meander through this expansive landscape and gaze at the looming olive trees and various ecosystems that reside in the park. The Joan March Gardens are just over 5-minutes away and are open 24 hours a day, making it a very accessible destination for tourists.
