THE REGION
Puerto Calero is situated on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen, positioned in a naturally protected enclave on Lanzarote's sheltered south coast, and has earned a reputation as one of the world's top sailing destinations while retaining a distinctive village-type atmosphere.
Puerto Calero is much more than a marina; there is a wide selection of cafés, bars and restaurants along the waterfront, and it's a beautiful place to sit and watch the comings and goings, with the sound of the clink of ropes on the masts, and the school of fish that swim around the marina – eager for any leftover bread from your meal.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesPuerto Calero is a superb location to visit if you are travelling with children, as it is filled with entertaining and inspiring tourist attractions. One of the most popular attractions within this region is Rancho Texas, an exhilarating animal park that can be found around 10-minutes away. This park is best known for its live animal performances, such as the Birds of Prey show and the Sea Lions show. As a result, this is a great place to visit if you are looking to observe a series of majestic creatures from a more intimate perspective. In addition, Rancho Texas adheres to an incredible Wild West theme, complete with costumes and dance parties. Thus, guests are sure to enjoy a fantastic family-friendly day out during their time here.
Timanfaya National Park is an iconic landscape that is based just 15-minutes away from the centre of Puerto Calero. This monumental attraction covers 12,600 acres, making it a truly sublime and expansive location that guests can explore at their own pace. The park was formed by a collection of volcanic eruptions that occurred between 1730 and 1736, giving us the immense rock formations that we see today. Guests can enter the visitor centre as a way to learn more about these incredible structures, as well as a range of other interactive resources. As such, this is a great place to visit if you are looking to learn more about the rich and far-reaching history of Puerto Calero.
Casa Museo Jose Saramago is a remarkable museum that celebrates the life of the prolific author Jose Saramago. This writer spent the last 18 years living in Lanzarote, giving guests a chance to explore his personal home and the artefacts that reside there. Therefore, guests can observe a collection of memorabilia and learn more about his sources of creative inspiration. Jose Saramago is best known for winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998, particularly for his novels Blindness and The Gospel According to Jesus Christ.
