The luxurious Chalet Fresse oozes character and charm with its traditional beams, vaulted ceilings, double height aspect, roaring fireplaces and lavish furnishings. It boasts five gorgeous bedroom suites, charismatic living spaces, an additional cosy television snug and balconies offering sensational panoramic views. Chalet Fresse enjoys a unique location in a sun-drenched corner of Val d’Isere’s main village, perfect for apres-ski, shopping, wandering around the historic centre and enjoying the resort’s non-snow-based activities.

Val d’Isere boasts a reputation as one of Europe’s most prestigious ski resorts. Together with the neighbouring ski area of Tignes, the Espace Killy area offers a seriously impressive number of pistes and lifts, together with breathtaking scenery with its dramatic Grande Motte glacier. The resort is excellent for all levels with nursery pistes, magic carpets, excellent ski instructors and even a few free lifts and slopes for beginners. The resort enjoys gondolas with heated seats, Wi-Fi, a number of luxury spas, a wonderful leisure centre, a fabulous array of high-end boutiques and a fantastic night life.

Chalet Fresse offers a helpful ski room with a seating area on the ground floor, four bedrooms on the first floor, a further bedroom and living areas on the second floor together with a large balcony with a hot tub and a snug on the top floor. The almost entirely wooden bedrooms are utterly charming and superbly comfortable with lavish beds, crisp cottons and gorgeous throws and scatter cushions. They are a mix of twin rooms and doubles with kingsize beds. Each of the bedrooms in Chalet Fresse enjoys a beautifully tiled bathroom, mostly with baths and overhead showers though one offers just a shower.

As well as being home to the remaining double bedroom, the second floor is where you will find your luxurious living spaces. The living room is a total wonder with a roaring fireplace in the corner, a fabulous feature of the room. Your comfy sofas and chairs are adorned with pretty cushions. This part of the living space enjoys double height aspect with glass doors opening to a terrace and giant picture windows up to the ceiling offering fabulous views. There are plenty of characterful beams and an attractive pitched roof. Between the living area and the country style kitchen is a fabulous giant Savoyard oak dining table and chairs, perfect for meals for the whole group. The kitchen is fabulous with every appliance you may need including a Nespresso coffee machine and a washing machine and dryer.

A charming wooden spiral staircase leads you upstairs to the cosy snug. This is the perfect place to enjoy a movie, family games and stunning views through the huge floor-to-ceiling picture windows. Children love the snug after an exhausting day on the slopes and adults enjoy their own time, preparing dinner, enjoying glasses of their favourite tipple or perhaps disappearing out to the balcony with a bottle of fizz for a dip in the jacuzzi. How amazing to be able to enjoy the heat and bubbles while mesmerised by the stunning scenery!

Chalet Fresse is a top pick. You will feel so at home, so cosseted and so spoilt. It offers a magical blend of charm, warmth and luxury. Guests staying at Chalet Fresse enjoy exclusive use of the chalet, a welcome basket, a mid stay clean and towel change and firewood.

Val d’Isere enjoys a simply fabulous location within the mountain tops on the border of the stunning Vanoise National Park. The town’s authentic atmosphere, gorgeous historic centre, endless chocolate-box chalets, unique boutiques and fantastic bars and eateries make it a hot spot for skiers and summer walkers. It is nestled in a valley and is linked with the mighty Tignes, offering a massive ski playground. Val d’Isere’s snowfall record is brilliant with skiing usually staying open until the end of the season at the beginning of May. The centre of Val d’Isere is a bustling high street which is surrounded by a number of small hamlets including Le Cret, Le Joseray, Le Chatelard, La Legettaz and Le Laisinant.

The Espace Killy area including Tignes is the birthplace of the Olympic skier Jean-Claude Killy. Its connections and advanced ski infrastructure is excellent with more than 3400 km of pistes and 99 lifts. As well as the Grande Motte glacier which offers 20 km of summer ski runs, it also boasts the challenging black-rated piste, Face de Bellevarde with its 915 m drop. Its height altitude from 1850 m to 3400 m guarantees some of the best snow in Europe. The ski area is perfect for all levels of skiers with its mythical slopes, almighty challenges and its quiet ski areas for beginners and children. The Valkids area and Valpark, a brilliant snow park are welcome additions for families. Passes can be bought for any number of days as well as for those that do not want to ski. Family passes are also available. Pedestrians do not have to miss out on the stunning views and family lunches on the slopes as they can access many lifts including the Solaise gondola, the Pim Pam carpet, the Poum carpet, the Vallon gondola, the Funival, the Daille gondola, the Olympique cable car, the Fornet cable car and the Bellevarde chairlift. The resort operates some brilliant ski schools.

Once your ski day is finished, Val’d’Isere is a great place for a wander, for evening entertainment and for shopping. It is picturesque with a 17th century church in the centre and delightful, characterful shops, restaurants and bars. It is a known party destination with La Folie Douce being one of it main evening attractions. For those that don’t ski or want a day off, there are some excellent spas and a brilliant leisure centre. During the summer, Val d’Isere enjoys fabulous biking and hiking trails and the wonderful Vanoise National Park.

The Resort

Val d’Isere is the oldest of the French ski resorts and a gleaming icon at the end of the valley where the residential town lies. Surrounded by what is arguably some of the most beautiful mountain landscape in the world, the chalet village is centred around a charming baroque church. It’s a lovely place for wandering, taking in the cosy atmosphere and spending quality time with your favourite people.

Val d’Isere is composed of three skiing sections. These are La Daille, Val d’Isere centre and Le Fornet, all of which are linked by a free shuttle service. Alongside Tignes, the resort is part of a wider ski area known as Espace Killy, and a lift pass will get you access to its entirety. Ski season in both resorts stretches as long as May.

Thanks to its high altitude, Val d’Isere is probably your most snow sure option for skiing in the French Alps. The village rests at 1850 metres and its peak on top of the La Grande Motte glacier is 3456 metres high. Sixty per cent of the resort’s pistes are set above 2200 metres, meaning that the skiing is consistently good but on rare occasions, bad weather can cause the slopes to close. It’s also important to keep in mind that Val d’Isere isn’t the best choice if you’re just finding your feet on the snow, and beginners may well find themselves challenged. On the flipside, Val d’Isere is one of the top choices for experienced skiers and snowboarders, with plenty of challenging black runs (such as the iconic Face the Bellevarde, where the 1992 Olympic men’s downhill was run).

And to go with some of the most exciting and picturesque skiing in France, down in the village you’ll find some amazing bars and restaurants. What better way to celebrate conquering that tricky black run than by indulging in some equally entertaining après-ski? On the mountain itself, you can start your evening with DJ’s and live music at La Folie Douce until the lifts close and then work your way into town.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

Chalet Fresse is brilliant for families. It enjoys five bedrooms so it is ideal for multi-generational families or perhaps two families. At the end of a busy day, children can happily watch a movie and eat cake in the snug while the adults relax with a glass of wine and some pre-dinner nibbles downstairs.

Val d’Isere is an excellent resort for families. It boasts three main beginners areas and a brilliant selection of ski schools and private ski instructors who make the experience fun and exciting. For very young ones, there are a few slopes and lifts at the bottom of the resort that are free and you do not need to buy a ski pass. This includes the ‘Le Village’ chairlift and the ‘La Savonette’ button lift which are in the heart of the resort. At the top of the Solaise, there is another excellent beginner area with two magic carpets, a great way to learn with confidence. There are some good value family passes available. The ski schools have mastered the art of combining skiing with fun activities so that children enjoy the experience. Val Kids is an exciting adventure programme for little ones. They learn about the mountain, the skiing and the people who work there. Val Kids is divided into four zones, one a playground to understand about the different jobs in the resort, another a fun piste with games, another an thrilling toboggan run and lastly a mini ski-cross course for learning new ski techniques. Val Kids is located on Solaise and Bellevarde.

Aside from skiing or snowboarding, children enjoy many other snow-based and non-snow-based activities in Val d’Isere. Sledging is such good fun and the good old-fashioned snow ball fights remain so popular. There are husky sleigh rides and tobogganing to enjoy too. Snake gliss is a fun ride with sledges slotted together for children aged four and over. Yooner is a sledge on one ski for six year olds and Airboard is a bodyboard on snow for those aged nine and over.

For part of the ski season, Val d’Isere hosts a traditional pedestrian evening with illuminations, percussion music, giant snow sculptures and light shows. There is lots of hot chocolate and mulled wine on offer. The resort also hosts giant slalom races on the Savonette slopes.

Val d’Isere’s sports centre is excellent with an ice rink, swimming pools, tennis, a climbing wall, electric snowmobiles with a track designed for children aged five to twelve and much more.
