Chalet Apartment
Great Value
Self-Catered Ideal for Kids Walk to Village

The French Alps have endured and continue to be popular with tourists. It’s not hard to see why. Whether you’re seeking that quintessential Christmas feel, a veteran skier who wants to tackle the slopes, or a newbie who wants to see what all the fuss is about and conquer their fears, there’s plenty of adrenaline, mesmerising natural beauty and comfort and cosiness to enjoy here. That’s what makes it so consistently adored.

Located in Meribel, your apartment is ideal for a family or group of friends. As a duplex apartment, it boasts three bedrooms and is located on the fifth floor. Conveniently located at the very heart of the resort, you’re also perfectly positioned less than 350 metres from the piece de resistance: the ski slopes themselves. Everything you need is nearby including the tourist office, a variety of shops, bars, restaurants and a ski school where you can get to grips with your sojourn on the snow. You’ll have your own locker in your apartment which you can use to store your skis or snowboard safely.

The apartment itself is decorated in the style of Savoyard. You’ll find each room dominated by old light wood which creates a warm and inviting feel, as well as a sense of cosiness. No matter where you are in the apartment, you can’t help but be reminded of the mountains. Throughout the apartment there are warming fabrics in autumnal colours and patterns that are typical of chalets dotted throughout the Alps, giving a real sense of authenticity.

When you enter the apartment, you’ll immediately notice the open plan living, dining and kitchen space making this a convivial environment. Curl up on the sofa with a book, a notepad so you can plan your ski routes, or simply watch your favourite show on the TV.

This enchanting space is decorated in a light and majestic way with warm touches throughout, red pillows, small hearts decorations and antler light fixtures. Part the red curtains to find your gorgeous terrace where you can sit and enjoy views of the mountains and cabins. Depending on the time of year you visit, the mountains will be thick with snow or lush with verdant green. On this ground floor you’ll also find the children’s cosy quaint bedroom complete with bunk bed and wardrobe for storage, as well as a bathroom.

Upstairs you’ll find two more bedrooms which can be made into doubles or twins depending on your preferences. Here you’ll also find another bathroom.

This is your base as you explore the allure of the alps. Enjoy a cup of cocoa, a series of board games and recuperating from your time on the slopes in your own enchanting haven.

What you should know…

  • If you’ve never skied before, make sure you pack well, bring the right equipment and have lessons at the ski school. Pistes will be marked with blue or green flags, meaning they’re ideal for beginners. Do not attempt routes marked with red flags. These are for veterans only. Skiing isn’t as easy as it looks, so don’t be disheartened if it takes a few goes to crack it.
  • If you fall, the easiest way to get back up again is to lie down on your back and then roll over.
  • Skiing will exert the muscles and feeling that next day burn is the sign of a job well done. Have a nice warming shower and bring some muscle balm.
  • Sunscreen might seem like the last thing you need to pack but take it! Even on dark days, the sun can be powerful.

The Alps are immortalised in film, art and song. They are spectacular and seem to pierce the sky. Whether you visit in the ski season when the Alps are flanked with snow, or during the rest of the year when the mountains roar with wild green, you’ll find beauty baked into the landscape.

What makes the French Alps so quaint and charming is that it can feel like disappearing into a festive novel. The spirit of Christmas, the boldness of winter is warmed up here and celebrated. If winter is your favourite season, you’ll enjoy how alive the season seems here in the Alps. Regardless of your age, it’s hard not to fall in love with what you see here.

Located in Meribel, you’ve chosen wisely, as you’re based in the world’s largest ski area. Those who’ve conquered the slopes many times before, and those who’d like to try, enjoy the opportunities the area has to offer. There are over 300 marked runs to enjoy, 28 fun runs, 62,000 metres of cumulative vertical drops and 160 ski lifts, presenting another great way to take in the breath-taking scenes before you.

Meribel itself runs across three interlinked valleys. Over half of the pistes here are suitable for beginners and will be recognisable by their green or blue flags. But there are also a series of more dramatic and challenging slopes for those with more experience. It’s worth taking time to plan out your route and talk to other skiers to get a sense of how you might like to spend your trip. But know this; you can’t really make a wrong choice and are bound to have a splendid experience whichever slopes you explore.

Head to the charming hamlet of Meribel village. The classic chalets of the area are built from stone or wood and there are many unique and rather fable like features, including a bread oven and small chapel. You can also have the practicalities of your trip met here too. You’ll be able to buy your ski passes, enjoy the two restaurants, top up your energy levels at the local bakery, get all the supplies you need from the mini market, and relax at the bar of an evening.

If you’ve headed to the area during the ski season, you’ll be guaranteed consistent snow. The vast majority of the skiable area itself reaches over 1,800 metres. As you traverse the valley by skis, you’ll pass through eleven resorts, Courchevel, Bride-les-Bains, Les Menuires, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, Val Thorens and Orelle. Each offers something unique and will prove to be quite the adventure. You are closest to the ski lift for Front de Neige / Snow Front so this might be your first port of call!

Something that cements Meribel’s reputation is its atmosphere. Winter is often known around the world as somewhat of a dead month, but in Meribel, winter is imbued with special significance. The chalets are lit like modest Christmas trees, families take to the slopes, revellers enjoy the terraced restaurants, and the snow creates a true winter wonderland. There’s nothing quite like feeling the energy you’ll encounter on the slopes. It’s truly something you have to experience for yourself. You may find it becomes quite addictive, as does conquering the challenge of travelling the mountains by ski alone!

The Resort

Méribel is a village with a true alpine heart. You won’t find blocks of hotels and purpose-built facilities here. Instead, the compact and lively town centre is picture-postcard perfect, and its atmosphere is quaint and fairytale-like. It is without a doubt the most romantic resort in the area and if you’re planning a couples holiday in the snow you’ll definitely want to take a closer look at Méribel.

At the centre of the world famous Trois Vallées (Three Valleys), Méribel makes up part of the largest ski domain in the world. Across the valleys, it has six sister resorts. You can either get a single-resort lift pass and keep to the fantastic beginner and intermediate terrain there, but you also have the option of purchasing a pass that covers the whole area.

The advanced lift system at Méribel will let you maximise your time on the snow and make sure you’re not waiting around in queues. With 67 runs to try out just in the resort itself, there is no time to be wasted. Just beware of the afternoon sun cutting things short on the west-facing slopes and prepare to get up with the sun if you’re after untouched powder. At it’s highest skiing point Méribel reaches an altitude of 2952 metres and the descent from this point is known to be one of the most scenic runs around.

Aside from the world-class skiing, Méribel is also known to be one of the liveliest resorts in the Three Valleys. Many of its residents and bar-owners (as well as plenty of its visitors) are expat-Brits who certainly know how to party. The après-ski scene here is truly top-notch!

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There’s something deeply appealing about the mountains, whether it’s the promise of clear air, being so far away from the rest of the world or getting to try something dramatic and possibly new, whether that’s skiing or snowboarding. As the area is popular with families, there will be ample opportunities for your children to make friends, but due to the size and scope of the area, it’s also very possible to disappear into your own snowy wonderland. There’s simply so much to do, it’s hard not to get excited!

Based in Meribel, you’re at the very hub of where everything is happening. You can enjoy a range of shops, bars and restaurants and easily purchase your ski passes. With kids in tow, you’ll want to head to the ski school where they can learn how to approach this very new activity by a qualified professional. If your little ones are seasoned skiers, just look out for any slopes marked blue or green. These are ideal for beginners and will be perfect for children. You won’t want to tackle anything more than that! Kids seem to be able to ski relentlessly, but adults often struggle to keep up, so best not to try!

Head to the ski lifts when you need to get to a slope or to travel between the eleven resorts that pepper the valleys. With so much to explore it’s worth taking a little time to decide which routes you’d like to take. But you can also be spontaneous and see where the day takes you.

Beyond skiing or snowboarding, you can also enjoy Venture to Le Rond Point Des Pistes and the residential areas of Mussillon, La Renarde and the Route des Chalets which are so lovely because they showcase how the people of the Allues valley live. Explore Meribel village and Raffort too. Back at your apartment, you can enjoy dinners together in the communal living spaces, cuddling up and watching TV and reading, or looking out at the astonishing views of the valleys beyond your window.
