With a roof terrace that showcases breathtaking ocean views and a fantastic private pool, Villa Rocha de Praia is the ultimate Algarve getaway. There are three bedrooms, with either views of the shimmering Atlantic Ocean or the rolling Portuguese countryside. Take a refreshing dip in the aquamarine plunge pool, and soak away your stresses in the luxurious Jacuzzi. Sun loungers are available for topping up your tan, and there is a multitude of outdoor furniture both poolside and under the terrace.

Here, guests will find a ping pong table and cosy outdoor rattan armchairs, as well as an alfresco dining table. It’s the ideal space for enjoying downtime together as a family. Step through into the living space, which is open-plan and airy. The living room is decorated in tonal shades of grey. Grand, cosy sofas are arranged around an antique-style coffee table – one of them can become a sofa bed if required. Enormous windows allow the space to be bathed in light.

Decorated in a sleek monochrome style, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need to create home-cooked meals, including an oven and a coffee maker.

On the first floor, the master bedroom has its own private balcony, and guests can access the roof terrace from this floor. A pale blue bed takes pride of place, with a grey seating area accentuated with splashes of cherry red. The next room has twin beds and is designed in a monochromatic style, with starry blankets and cityscape art in black and white on the wall. The third room also has a double bed with American flag cushions and a writing desk.

There is a television room, which is very spacious, can be transformed into another bedroom if required, making the total capacity six adults and two children.

The roof terrace is perfect for enjoying the dazzling views of the Algarve coastline with a glass of vino in hand. There is an outdoor lounge here with stylish grey furniture, perfect for admiring the sunset and indulging in some delicious Portuguese snacks.

The villa is beautifully located in the Carvoeiro area of the Algarve. A peaceful, traditional Portuguese resort town, Carvoeiro is perfect for families and those who love to be by the sea. The town is made up of whitewashed houses with pops of colour that cascades gently down sandstone cliffs. A fishing village called Ferragudo, which has many famous fresh fish restaurants, is just 1km from the holiday villa.

The area is known for its idyllic golden sand beaches – two of the beaches nearby are Praia Grande and Caneiros. A beautiful, hidden cove, Caneiros has a dramatic backdrop of ochre cliffside and dazzling azure sea. There is a popular restaurant nearby and sunbeds to relax on. Praia Grande has golden sand that stretches as far as the eye can see and a laid back ambience. Sea kayaking is a popular activity in the Algarve, as well as swimming and snorkelling.

Around the Algarve, there are a multitude of world-class golf courses, often by the beach or the lagoons. Golfers can enjoy the fresh sea air and amazing views as they check out legendary courses like Vale do Lobo, which was designed by British golfer Henry Cotton.

The Golden Triangle of the Algarve is home to many luxury resorts and picturesque places. Take a gentle drive to gorgeous Almancil and soak up some culture at the Church of São Lourenço – its white exteriors hide an array of amazing blue azulejo tiles inside. The Baroque church dates back to 1730. Nearby, the cultural centre houses a variety of art exhibitions and often hosts musical performances.

Take a boat trip to go dolphin spotting, an unforgettable experience for the whole family. The dolphins are curious and interested in humans, so sometimes up to 50 of the wild mammals can be seen. Some companies even bring a marine biologist, so guests can learn all about the dolphins.

Another area to explore nearby is Vilamoura, a resort town with a beautiful marina full of million-dollar yachts and many fine restaurants. Boat trips can be taken around the Algarve from here. Sample some Portuguese fare such as Caldeirada, a seafood stew made from white fish, oily fish and local clams and mussels. Caldo Verde, a healthy and hearty soup made from collard greens, fried potatoes, eggs and parsley is a tasty choice. Finish it all with some pastels de nata, the famous egg custard tarts dusted with cinnamon.

THE REGION

Portimão is the largest city in the western Algarve and was traditionally a centre for shipbuilding, sardine fishing and fish processing. Today, most of that industry has been replaced by tourism, leisure and retail, leaving Portimão as a large and residential city. Perhaps the most attractive part of the town is the riverfront which runs from the marina to beyond the road bridge. There are several squares along this stretch, which become increasingly less touristy as you head away from the marina.

Of course, Portimão is probably best known for the fantastic beach of Praia da Rocha. Located about 3 km south of the town, this is one of the most impressive stretches of sand on the Algarve coast. Take a trip up the Rio Arade and explore the local area, or get out and active in the sunshine. Our pick of the best properties to stay in Portimão are perfect bases whether you're simply here for a beach holiday or you plan to explore further afield.

ABOUT THE ALGARVE

Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that. There’s actually a load of fascinating culture and history, superb cuisine and enthralling adventures to be had, though we’d be the first to admit that the beaches are pretty special too, with lots of sand, spectacle and wonderfully clean water.

But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages

A holiday in the Algarve is one of the top choices for families travelling with children. The Golden Triangle is family-friendly and offers plenty to see, do and enjoy for kids of all ages. The villa itself is well suited for children, thanks to its lovely private pool, ping pong table and television room.

For many kids, a summer holiday is all about the beaches – and there are so many to choose from in the Algarve. They’ll love splashing around and practising their swimming skills at Praia Grande, thanks to its lovely calm sea and relaxed atmosphere. From strolling along the sand to building their own forts, there’s plenty of fun to be had.

A water park visit is perfect for kids of all ages – take a trip to Aquapark, which boasts the Freefall waterslide, which is the highest in Europe. There is a water coaster and a speed race slide ideal for teenagers. Little ones will love the dedicated mini water park - there is something for everyone here. The wave pool is perfect for relaxing in after all the thrilling watercoasters.

Another adrenaline-based activity fantastic for kids of all ages is go-karting - in Portimão there is a world-renowned centre called the Kartódromo Internacional de Algarve. With three different race tracks that stretch over 1.5km in length, the go-karts can reach a top speed of 160km/hour.

A boat trip to go dolphin spotting is bound to be a highlight of any trip to the Golden Triangle- kids will adore seeing the graceful dolphins up close and learn all about them. Seeing a dolphin leap out of the water will be an unforgettable experience.

The Centro Ciencia is a wonderful hands-on science experience that showcases astronomy, tectonic plates and kinetic energy. The centre provides interaction-based learning and plenty of unique opportunities – like holding a tarantula or scorpion!

The Algarve’s local dishes are delicious and full of flavour - adventurous kids will love trying out all the fresh fish dishes. Kids with a sweet tooth will love trying authentic pastels de nata.
