Villa Guine is located in the delightful resort of Carvoeiro, within walking distance of the beach and the town centre. Once a sleepy fishing village, Carvoeiro is a wonderful resort with charming, traditional restaurants, gorgeous sandy beaches, pretty whitewashed houses set into the gold-tinged cliffs, a lighthouse and the remains of an ancient fort. The village enjoys a backdrop of lush, gentle hills. It is prettier and more laid-back than some of the larger resorts in this area of Portugal. Golfers enjoy the excellent nine-hole golf course with its contoured greens, towering trees, lakes and bunkers at Vale do Milho, designed by Dave Thomas. Once you have settled into this fabulous, secluded property, you can plan your Algarve adventure. There is plenty to do, including boat trips, dolphin watching, water skiing, fishing, scuba diving, hiking, cycling, cultural visits to fascinating historic towns and villages, and so much more.

Villa Guine sits in a large plot with a gorgeous swimming pool, alfresco dining and lounging and a jacuzzi. It is so peaceful here. Inside, you will discover three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan living space with an immaculate, contemporary kitchen and a separate television room with a Smart television and Netflix. The villa is perfect for groups of friends or families.

The main living space is light, airy and very modern in design. Trendy accent chairs sit with a comfy sofa and a contemporary feature fireplace at one end of the room, with a dining area in the centre and a glossy white kitchen at the far end. With excellent appliances, a sociable central island and plenty of space, the chefs in your group will be delighted with this outstanding kitchen. The television room is ideal for youngsters that want to chill out with a Netflix movie at the end of the day. They can curl up on the modern corner sofa, which sits in front of a modern feature wall.

Two of the sleek, minimalist bedrooms come with sumptuous double beds and the last with comfy twins. The two bathrooms are immaculate and offer top-of-the-range fittings.

Though the interiors of Villa Guine are lovely, you are likely to spend much of your time outside. The gardens are stunning, with architectural planting and total privacy. Children love the trampoline provided as well as the wonderful swimming pool. Surrounding the pool is a wooden sun deck sprinkled with loungers and straw parasols. There is also a shaded alfresco dining and lounge area and a barbecue so that your barbecue masters can prepare a delicious feast to enjoy while the sun goes down. On a slightly higher level, you will find your hot tub with its fantastic jets and other outdoor furniture, where you can enjoy cocktails or some delicious chilled white wine.

Villa Guine enjoys a wonderful central position in Carvoeiro, within walking distance of the beach. Carvoeiro is very relaxed, enjoying a laid-back ambience. Carvoeiro was once a quaint fishing village with a history dating back centuries. The centre is quite compact, with two main roads leading to the village square. It is very attractive, with gorgeous whitewashed cottages built into the cliffs. Carvoeiro boasts an excellent choice of beaches, with one in the middle of town. The next beach to the town beach is Praia do Paraiso, a sandy stunner sheltered by dramatic cliffs. The restaurant above the beach is perfect for lunch.

At the mouth of the Arade River, a little further along the coast, you will find the delightful fishing village of Ferragudo. It sits across the water from Portimao and Praia da Rocha. Ferragudo enjoys a wonderful riverfront promenade sprinkled with towering palm trees. Its main square, Praca Rainha Dona Leonor, is lined with cosy cafes, a perfect spot for breakfast and coffee. There are many wonderful fish restaurants that look out over the river. A warren of narrow cobbled streets rises up into the old village, sprinkled with whitewashed cottages. The terrace in front of the village church offers wonderful views over the Arade River and Portimao, as well as Praia da Angrinha. This beach is home to the medieval Castelo de Sao Joao de Arade, which sits in an elevated position on the headland at the southern end of the beach. The castle dates back to the 16th century, sitting opposite the Fortaleza de Santa Catarina in Praia da Rocha. By 1896 the fortress had fallen into disuse and was sold at auction. Ferragudo’s main town beach is Praia Grande which lies at the far side of the castle. The sheltered waters of the Arade beaches are ideal for watersports, including kayaking and windsurfing.

Within easy reach, Silves is also nestled on the banks of the River Arade, dominated by one of the best-preserved castles in the Algarve. Silves was the capital of the ancient Arab Kingdom of Algarve and retained many of its ancient nods to the past. It also boasts many charming outdoor cafes, some excellent restaurants, pretty fountains, a market hall and wonderful scented orange groves.

On the opposite side of the Arade River, Portimao offers delicious seafood restaurants, excellent shopping and waterfront promenades along with one of the Algarve’s best beaches, Praia da Rocha, around the corner. Portimao is a sailor’s delight, with elite competitions taking place during the year. Long before tourism arrived in Portimao, the town made a living from fishing and canning. The fascinating Museu de Portimao is housed in the evocative old Feu Cannery and impresses guests with the history of the industry. The Megalithic Monuments of Alcarlar are very close to Portimao on the hilltop and spread out over 10 hectares. There are burial monuments in the complex and a vast cairn with a shape resembling a beehive. Portimao has a wonderful market, the Mercado Municipal, which is a great place to stock up on supplies for the villa. There is also a special farmers market on Saturdays. The riverside esplanade is remarkable and perfect for a stroll beside the swaying palms. It is beautiful at night with the twinkly lights on the opposite bank. There are many opportunities for seafaring excursions from Portimao. You can take a voyage on a replica pirate ship, look out for dolphins, take on some water sports or simply enjoy the magnificent coastline. If you do decide to head over the river to Portimao, you may also want to visit Alvor and its stunning beach. Praia do Alvor features three impressive sea stacks known as the Tres Irmaos or Three Brothers, fine glistening white sand, ochre sandstone cliffs, grottoes and caves and extensive dunes.

Lagoa is another historical town which can easily be visited. It is a very pretty hill town full of gorgeous ancient buildings, stunning art galleries and some wonderful restaurants. For nine days during August, Lagoa hosts the amazing Fatacil Fair. It is close to one of the Algarve’s best waterparks, Slide and Splash, which is brilliant for families.

THE REGION

Carvoeiro has always been known for its beautiful coastline, adorned with cliffs, coves and incredible sandy beaches stretching all the way along to Albufeira. These days, however, there is a lot more going on in this charming town than just waves hitting the sand (although that’s certainly still a highlight).

In the past few years Carvoeiro has developed to accommodate for the growing number of tourists who are curious to see what the fuzz is all about, and the town continues to get livelier and livelier each summer. While it has kept its character and remains exquisitely peaceful, there are also plenty of modern amenities and loads of exciting activities in the area. The only thing Carvoeiro won’t provide is a good party, but there are other parts of the Algarve which are perfect for that.

ABOUT THE ALGARVE

Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that.

But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

There are plenty of wonderful sandy beaches close by, including Praia do Paraiso, Praia do Carvalho, and Praia do Vale do Centianes. A little further away, Ferragudo Beach is also perfect for families. Being on the river, the beach is a little calmer and perfect for watersports. On the opposite side of the river, Praia da Rocha and Alvor Beach are amazing. Children love the boardwalks and the Nature Reserve at Alvor, with its broad range of fauna and flora. Alvor also offers a fun mini golf course, Adventure Golf Alvor, which boasts 18 holes that are challenging and fun with plenty of dinosaurs featured as its theme is ‘Lost World Jurassic Park’.

For some thrilling family fun, guests can visit the Slide and Splash Waterpark at Estombar. Adults can chill on the lazy river while children enjoy thrilling adventures on the high water slides, inflatable rides and water playgrounds. There are some excellent pools and also live falconry, reptile and tropical bird shows. Its lazy river is very relaxing, and its beach pool boasts a wave machine that comes on every hour.

Autodromo Internacional do Algarve is a giant motorsport complex with a testing track for Formula 1 teams, and it hosts several international tours. During the week, visitors can take a racing bike or supercharged car out for a spin or take a lesson from a pro. Children can enjoy watching or taking a kart out on the karting track if they are aged nine or over.

The Fatacil fair is held every August at the Fatacil showground in Lagoa. It started out as an agricultural fair but is now more of a regional fair celebrating everything Algarvian and Portuguese. You will find a show ring in the equestrian area to watch Lusitano horses perform truly impressive dressage and techniques accompanied by dramatic music and fire! You can sample local wines and taste many food options. Homemade lace, hand-crafted wooden items and pottery are sold in the handicraft area. Children love the dedicated children’s fun zone.
