Overview
Not everyone is looking for a huge villa. Some are looking for somewhere intimate, near the sea, beautifully decorated, with a pool and with all the facilities needed for a self-catering break. The two bedroom Casa Contenta is just that. It is a smart, beautiful little pad, a rare terraced villa to have its own pool as well as a wonderful living space, an upper alfresco dining terrace and a roof top terrace with sublime sea views. Here you totally relax with your family or friends and enjoy the wonderful location of Carvoeiro.
Casa Contenta sits adjacent to the 9 hole golf course of Vale do Milho and the fantastic beach of Vale do Centianes is within walking distance. Golf lovers will be delighted to have this high quality course designed by Dave Thomas next door. The course has all the ambience of a full-sized course with contoured greens, towering trees, lakes and bunkers. Once you have played this, you can move on to other championship courses nearby. Once a sleepy fishing village, Carvoeiro is a wonderful resort with charming, traditional restaurants, gorgeous sandy beaches, lots of pretty whitewashed houses set into the gold-tinged cliffs, a lighthouse and the remains of a 17th century fort. The village is backed by lush, gentle hills. It is prettier and more laid-back that some of the larger resorts.
Guests enjoy upside down living at Casa Contenta with the two bedrooms on the ground floor with access to the pool and terrace and the living space above with an alfresco dining terrace and fabulous sea views. With the villa being built into the hillside, the bedrooms are cooler overnight. How lovely to be able to wake up in the morning for an early swim! The master bedroom enjoys a comfy double bed and an ensuite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower. The second bedroom offers twin beds and has use of the second bathroom in the hallway. This offers a shower. Both bathrooms are beautifully tiled and are immaculate. Like the living space above, the decor in the bedrooms is neutral and very calming.
You actually enter the villa on the upper level to find your kitchen on the left, a guest toilet on the right and an open plan living and dining room ahead. The modern kitchen is very smart in white and wood with all the appliances you will need for your holiday. The living room is tastefully decorated and enjoys a wonderful feature fireplace, a sumptuous corner sofa, a television and an attractive dining table and chairs. There is a large serving hatch to the kitchen next to the dining table. The living space enjoys access to the first floor terrace with its alfresco dining furniture and superb views across to the sea. Stairs lead from this terrace to the roof terrace where you will find comfortable rattan furniture, the perfect spot for a chilled glass of wine while watching the glorious sunsets over the beach. There are also stairs that lead straight down to the pool.
The pool is a fabulous plus. Totally private, it is surrounded by fencing and lush Mediterranean plants as well as loungers and a parasol. Children especially love it! Once you have settled into Casa Contenta, you can plan your Algarve adventure. There is plenty to do including boat trips, dolphin watching, water skiing, fishing, scuba diving, hiking, cycling, cultural visits to fascinating, historic towns and villages and so much more.

Location
About the surrounding area of Casa ContentaHolidays to Carvoeiro are very relaxed with its laid-back ambience, a real get-away-from-it-all spot. Carvoeiro was once a quaint fishing village with a history dating back centuries. The centre is quite compact with two main roads leading to the village square. It is very attractive with gorgeous whitewashed cottages built into the cliffs. Carvoeiro offers an excellent choice of beaches with one in the middle of town. The next beach to the town beach is Praia do Paraiso, a stunner sheltered by dramatic cliffs. The restaurant above the beach is a wonderful lunch spot.
A little further along the coast, at the mouth of the Arade River, you will find the delightful fishing village of Ferragudo. It sits across the water from Portimao and Praia da Rocha. Ferragudo enjoys a wonderful riverfront promenade sprinkled with palm trees. Its main square, the charming Praca Rainha Dona Leonor, is lined with cafes, a perfect spot for breakfast and coffee. There are many fish restaurants that look out over the river. A warren of narrow cobbled streets rises up into the old village, lined with whitewashed cottages. The terrace in front of the village church offers wonderful views over the Arade River and Portimao, as well as the closest beach Praia da Angrinha. This beach is home to the medieval Castelo de Sao Joao de Arade which commands an elevated position on the headland at the southern end of the beach. The castle dates back to the 16th century, sitting opposite the Fortaleza de Santa Catarina in Praia da Rocha. By 1896 the fortress had fallen into disuse and was sold at auction. Ferragudo’s main town beach is Praia Grande which lies at the far side of the castle. The sheltered waters of the Arade beaches are ideal for watersports including kayaking and windsurfing.
Casa Contenta is twenty minutes away from the Algarve’s prettiest, red-hued town, Silves. Silves is nestled on the banks of the River Arade, dominated by one of the best-preserved castles in the Algarve. Silves was the capital of the ancient Arab kingdom of Algarve and retains many of its ancient nods to the past. It also boasts many charming outdoor cafes, some excellent restaurants, pretty fountains, a market hall and wonderful scented orange groves.
Lagoa is another historic town worth visiting. It is a very pretty hill town which boasts gorgeous, ancient buildings, some stunning art galleries and some wonderful eateries. For nine days during August, Lagoa hosts the amazing Fatacil Fair. It is also close to one of the Algarve’s best waterparks, Slide and Splash which will keep the children very happy.
On the opposite side of the Arade River, Portimao brings delicious seafood, shopping and waterfront promenades to the table, along with one of the Algarve’s best beaches, Praia da Rocha around the corner. Portimao is a sailor’s delight with elite competitions taking place. Long before tourism arrived in Portimao, the town made a living from fishing and canning. The fascinating Museu de Portimao is housed in the evocative old Feu Cannery and impresses guests with the history of the industry. The Megalithic Monuments of Alcarlar are very close to Portimao on the hilltop and spreading out over 10 hectares. There are burial monuments in the complex and a vast cairn with a shape resembling a beehive. Portimao has a wonderful market, the Mercado Municipal, which is a great place to stock up on supplies for the villa. There is also a special farmers market on Saturdays. The riverside esplanade is remarkable and perfect for a stroll beside the swaying palms. It is beautiful at night with the twinkly lights on the opposite bank. There are many opportunities for seafaring excursions from Portimao. You can take a voyage on a replica pirate ship, look out for dolphins, take on some water sports or simply enjoy the magnificent coastline. If you do decide to head over the river to Portimao, you may also want to visit Alvor and its stunning beach. Praia do Alvor features three impressive sea stacks known as the Tres Irmaos or Three Brothers, fine glistening white sand, ochre sandstone cliffs, grottoes and caves and extensive dunes.

THE REGION
Carvoeiro has always been known for its beautiful coastline, adorned with cliffs, coves and incredible sandy beaches stretching all the way along to Albufeira. These days, however, there is a lot more going on in this charming town than just waves hitting the sand (although that’s certainly still a highlight).
In the past few years Carvoeiro has developed to accommodate for the growing number of tourists who are curious to see what the fuzz is all about, and the town continues to get livelier and livelier each summer. While it has kept its character and remains exquisitely peaceful, there are also plenty of modern amenities and loads of exciting activities in the area. The only thing Carvoeiro won’t provide is a good party, but there are other parts of the Algarve which are perfect for that.
ABOUT THE ALGARVE
Though most people tend to see the Algarve as all about the beaches and a holiday on the Med, there’s far much more to it than that.
But while you’re enjoying one of our fantastic villas in Algarve, you may well want to take some time out from all that sun worship to explore everything else the region has to offer – so we’ve put together this handy travel guide to give you a little help and inspiration!

Autodromo Internacional do Algarve is a giant motorsport complex with a testing track for Formula 1 teams and it hosts several international tours. During the week, tourists can taking a racing bike or supercharged car out for a spin or take a lesson from a pro. Children might enjoy watching or taking a kart out on the karting track if they are aged 9 or over. The complex is roughly 10 km from the villa.
The Fatacil fair is held every August at the Fatacil showground in Lagoa. It started out as an agricultural fair but it has grown and is more of a regional fair celebrating everything Algarvian and Portuguese. You will find a show ring in the equestrian area to watch Lusitano horses perform truly impressive dressage and techniques accompanied by dramatic music and fire! You can sample wines in the wine area and there are so many food options. Homemade lace, hand crafted wooden items and pottery are sold in the handicraft area.
