With a private swimming pool and plenty of relaxing home comforts, you may find yourself perfectly content to stay close to home, enjoying the wonderful facilities Penthouse Zalazak has to offer. However, the lively town of Budva is located less than a fifteen-minute drive away, while Montenegro’s stunning coastal gems and diverse natural landscapes lie waiting to be discovered.
As soon as you arrive, you will be enchanted by the sparkling Adriatic Sea, beckoning you to discover Montenegro’s sandy shores. The Budva Riviera is home to seventeen beautiful Adriatic beaches, including the turquoise waters of Jaz Beach, Becici Beach’s vibrant atmosphere and the spectacular Mogren Beach, secluded by green hilltops. From Penthouse Zalazak, Kamenovo Beach’s crystal-clear waters are only fifteen minutes away on foot.

Budva’s coastline offers a wide array of watersports and recreational activities, including stand-up paddle boarding, sea kayaking and jet skiing. Visitors can also enjoy a boat trip to the dramatic cliffs of Sveti Nikola. This beautiful, rugged island is affectionately known as ‘Montenegrin Hawaii’ to locals, thanks to its stunning blue waters.

The country’s cuisine combines Mediterranean and Balkan flavours, providing visitors with some exquisite delicacies to sample. There is a focus on local, seasonal produce here, with seafood, grilled meat and fresh vegetables making up some of the delicious dishes to be found along the coast. For a traditional Balkan breakfast, try some burek, a tasty, savoury pastry, fresh from a local bakery. Black risotto and Montenegrin buzara are two seafood specialities, while Rakija, a strong fruit brandy, is Montenegro’s national drink.

After a morning spent wandering Budva’s labyrinthine cobbled streets, don’t forget to visit the town’s famous Ballerina Statue, an iconic attraction with a stunning backdrop. Work up an appetite by walking the town’s historic walls or making your way up to the Citadel, located at the top of the old town, where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch with panoramic views. For those who wish to experience the town’s atmospheric nightlife, there are plenty of excellent restaurants and lively bars dotted around the old town.

Should you wish to travel further afield, Montenegro is home to five national parks, each with its own unique charm. Approximately an hour’s drive from Penthouse Zalazak, Skadar Lake National Park is a wondrous natural beauty spot featuring the largest lake in the Balkans. Here, visitors can hike and bike to their hearts’ content, before stopping for a swim in the lake’s rejuvenating waters. If the sandy beaches of the Adriatic coastline weren’t enough, Lake Skadar is home to the fine white pebbles and scenic waters of Murice Beach, as well as the picturesque Pjesacac Beach, a secluded spot that is only accessible by boat.

The medieval town of Kotor is around forty minutes away from the penthouse by car. Here, visitors can enjoy dreamlike vistas of the Bay of Kotor, majestic coastal mountains, Venetian architecture and winding cobblestone streets. Take in the sights, including St. Tryphon's Cathedral and the old clock tower on the Square of Arms, before making your way home to your penthouse oasis, in time for a sunset swim in the private pool and dinner with a view on the rooftop terrace.

About the Region & Getting There

About Budva

Budva has been celebrated for its remarkable Riviera for decades! Not only are the beaches pristine and spoilt with turquoise waters, holiday-goers are continually reminded of this destination’s antiquated past wherever they look. With mesmerising streets in the Old Town and Monasteries rising over the symbolic Adriatic rooftop-slates, tourists unite in this glorious city for treasured holidays.

First stop, the Beaches! Budva’s coastline stretches for over 20km, so you will have to meander out of the city’s medieval walls to enjoy your choice of seventeen beaches. By far the most popular of these beaches is Jaz – here you will find lots of water-based activities that extend over the 4km shore. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, a day trip to the charming island of Sveti Nikola is urged. Not only will you experience stunning scenery, which locals liken to Hawaii, but you’re likely to see deer and rabbits. If the heat and sand is all becoming a little too much for you and the family, make sure to visit Aquapark Budva. This impressive facility not only has restaurants, shops and great views, but it also has a superb range of water related activities.

During the day, feel free to explore the Old Town. There’s lots to see and you will learn about this unique town’s history, so visit the numerous museums, the Citadel and Santa Maria del Punta Church. After some sightseeing, stretch your legs along the promenade that acts as a walkway between Budva and another of our favourites - Sveti Stefan. Perhaps stop off half way down this coastal boulevard and familiarise yourself with the Montenegrin food, which includes the well-known Njeguski Steak (schnitzel filled with Njegusi prosciutto & cheese), Buzara (shellfish & prawns) and Ispod Saca (a hearty stew). If shopping is your thing, we suggest a trip to Petrovac in order to explore the dozens of unusual boutiques that are still spoilt with prominent coastal views.

Budva does have a recognised nightlife scene, so if you fancy a cocktail in the evening then check out Mogren Beach or Maltez. Festival goers are drawn to this part of the world during late August for the intimate Sea Dance Festival.

Budva has seen some developed over recent years, but that hasn’t taken away from its 2,500-year history. If you want to be wowed by architecture, beaches and wonderful food & drink – we think you’ve found your next holiday!

Prior to Booking

As many of our regions in Montenegro are coastal, there can sometimes be some adverse weather. This tends to only really occur outside of the Peak Season though. When thinking about booking your holiday to Montenegro, please consult Foreign travel advice for more information.

Entry Requirements

Tourists who are British Citizens will not require a visa upon arrival, unless their stay lasts longer than 90 days. Please check Entry Requirements before departure.

Getting There

Sveti Stefan, Bar & Ulcinj are served by Tivat Airport and Podgorica Airport. Please note that Tivat is a smaller International Airport, which can experience overcrowding in Peak Season. Due to its proximity to Orjen & Lovćen Mountains, flights are sometimes re-directed to Podgorica Airport or cancelled in the case of bad weather.

From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London on Montenegro Airlines, easyJet, TUI, Ryanair and many others. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.

From Dubrovnik, Croatia:
Connecting flights are available from Dubrovnik Airport to Podgorica Airport.

By Bus:
GetByBus operates from Dubrovnik, Tivat and Podgorica to Sveti Stefan, Bar & Ulcinj. Journeys can take up to 4 hours and 45 minutes.

For intrepid explorers who wish to venture further afield, the diverse landscapes of Montenegro lie waiting to be discovered, with plenty of fantastic activities that will keep the whole family entertained.

Perfect for families, Kamenovo is a sandy beach with a relatively shallow cove, making it a great place for children to paddle and swim safely. Jaz Beach is the ideal spot for those who are after a day of watersports, with stand-up paddleboarding, sea kayaking and sailing excursions all on offer. Boat tours of the magical Sveti Nikola offer visitors the chance to see the island’s majestic cliffs and stunning waters up close.

Kids will be enchanted by the charming streets of Budva, where the whole family can enjoy taking photos of the old town’s historic sites in the sunshine before a visit to the nearest ice cream shop. Everyone will be astonished by the sweeping views from the Budva Citadel, encompassing the turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea and the town’s terracotta rooftops.
