This luxurious apartment has five spacious ensuite bedrooms and can accommodate up to nine guests in some comfort and a lot of style, perfect for a family or friends get-together. This third-floor penthouse is arranged over two floors with elevator access and two alfresco terraces.

The sweeping views take in the daily activities of the Grand Canal and look over the city’s rooftops to the bell tower of St Mark’s and beyond to the Dolomite Mountains. The property has been lovingly restored to the very highest specifications, using only the finest furnishings and fabrics to create an exquisite interior designed apartment. As a nod to modernity, Apartment Lara has complimentary air conditioning, central heating, and Wi-Fi throughout.

Enter the property through the impressive hall, with its stone sculptures and ancient well, then take the lift to the third floor, where you will find a light and airy holiday home with stunning views from the Renaissance-style windows. The spacious sitting room has inviting, large comfy sofas, eclectic art adorns the walls, and floor-to-ceiling doors open onto the terrace, which runs the length of the front of the palace.

The terrace is a living space in itself, with sun loungers and shady parasols, an alfresco eight-seater dining set, and panoramic views of Venice. The adjacent formal dining room has an eight-seater table with a beautiful credenza displaying a set of porcelain dishes and crystal glasses, perfect for serious indoor entertaining.

The fully fitted kitchen is equipped with Miele appliances and that most essential of all, a professional wine fridge. There is a smaller secondary kitchen, a seating area and study, and a laundry room to complete the living space.

The Master Bedroom is at the front of the apartment, with a super king-size bed, dressed in the finest Frette linens, with an ensuite Bisazza tiled, travertine marble bathroom, with a bathtub and shower and double vanity unit. Doors from the bedroom give exclusive terrace access with breath-taking Venice views. There are six steps down to the Green Bedroom, which has a romantic king-size four-poster bed, hand painted walls, Porte Italia custom-designed furniture, an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in rain shower, and views of the Frari church.

Take six steps up to the Pink Bedroom, with a single four-foot size bed, hand painted furniture, an ensuite rain shower bathroom, and French doors that open onto a decked terrace with a wooden table and chairs. The Farfalle Bedroom is hand painted with delicate butterflies fluttering by, a king-size four-poster bed, and an ensuite bathroom with a bathtub and hand-held shower. Apartment Lara is housed in a recently restored, south-facing, eighteenth-century palace on the Grand Canal. The apartment is located in the San Polo quarter of Venice, with rooftop views of the bell tower of St Mark’s Cathedral and near the Frari and Carmini churches and the Sculoa di San Rocco. The international Marco Polo airport is a forty-minute private water taxi journey away or seventy-five minutes by the public vaporetto.

The apartment is ideally located within walking distance of most of the major sights of Venice. One of the joys of a holiday here is walking over many of the four hundred bridges and some of the one hundred and eighteen canals, as the architecture reveals the city’s colourful history. It’s a twenty-minute walk to the impressive St Mark’s Square and the eleventh-century Basilica, where mass is still held today. Visit the Byzantine Doge’s Palace, climb the clocktower, which you can see from the apartment, and cross the Bridge of Sighs. On the other side of St Mark’s Square is the Correr Museum, highlighting the history of Venice in its royal rooms and library.

Take time out to stroll around the square and window shop in the jewellery stores before sitting down for tea in Florian’s whilst the orchestra plays your favourite tunes. Don’t miss a visit to the Napoleonic Accademia Gallery to view classical Renaissance Venetian art and see the seventeenth-century Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, with its iconic cupola and twelve paintings by Titian. Please make time to visit the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, a homage to twentieth-century modern art housed in her original palazzo home.

Take a three-island tour to see the glassblowers at work on Murano, the colourful houses and lacemakers of Burano, and the seventh-century cathedral on Torcello, with its Byzantine art. Cross the Adriatic Sea to the Lido, famous for its grand hotels and long sandy beaches, and for those who like to chance their luck, there’s a casino too. Venice is a food lovers paradise; sample the local dish of Baccala Mantecato, a salted cod dish best served with a glass of chilled white wine.

A walk to St Mark’s Square will take you through the back streets with shops selling the best quality hand-crafted leather goods, silk scarves, and cashmere sweaters. The fashionistas will love that many of Italy’s most famous designers have their brand label stores on the main street leading directly to the square. For the romantics, get into a gondola and cruise the canals, or simply take one to cross the water from one side to the other. In the evening, enjoy a stroll to Harry’s Bar for a Bellini before a night at the opera at the famous Fenice Theatre, then dine in a local restaurant, serving traditional Venetian dishes overlooking the Grand Canal under a Tiepolo blue sky. If you are lucky enough to be there during Carnival time, wear a mysterious mask, and join in the fun and frolics of this fabulous festival.
