Overview
By the shores of the Lake Mezzola, Villa Papaveri offers its guests a stay like no other. With its backdrop of spectacular mountains and with the glittering lake bordering the villa’s lush and pleasant garden, you will find simply stunning vistas everywhere you look.
Villa Papaveri offers chic accommodation with a contemporary flourish that Italians seem to do so well. Semi-detached house on three levels. Modern yet comfortable, guests will appreciate lounging on the sunny back porch with a book just as much as soaking up the sun on the al fresco dining terrace, all whilst taking in the landscape across the water. The garden is spacious and well kept, whilst the interior of the house benefits from plenty of light and fantastic vistas, thanks to the generous use of sliding glass doors to make the absolute most of its gorgeous location.
Some of the bedrooms enjoy lake views and benefit from the convenience of an ensuite bathroom and under floor heating. The overall look and feel of the villa is enhanced by the use of sleek stone, polished wood and stylish minimal detailing, perfectly complemented by crisp white walls that reflect the abundance of light.
A feature that guests will no doubt find convenient is that the villa has two kitchens set over separate floors, which allows for flexible cooking and dining in group sizes as you choose. In addition, both the generously sized upper terrace and the airy ground floor dining room with sliding doors to the garden allow for the perfect al fresco dining experience – might we suggest by way of the garden’s barbecue?
Just a few minutes’ walk from the villa you will find shops, cafés, bars and eateries, as well as a supermarket and bank, or explore the shores of the lake, just steps away and accessible by jetty. Alternatively, around a 10-minute drive away is the beautiful Riserva Naturale Pian di Spagna e Lago di Mezzola, a nature reserve and wetlands that is especially stunning at sunrise and sunset.
Please note this villa is located on the shores of Lake Mezzola and is approximately 35km from Lake Como.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa PapaveriOn a street by the Lake Mezzola, and neighbouring other houses that wind their way along the base of the mountains by a single railway track, Villa Papaveri enjoys the benefits of glorious lake views combined with the convenience of being in a small town location. You can take a short walk into town for bars, restaurants, and shops, several of which are found just a few minutes’ walk away, or an intriguing historic landmark is a ‘secret’ tunnel, built during WW1, is also accessible on foot and worth checking out when you are in the mood for a local wander.
As well as the charms of its natural landscape, the Sondrio province of Lombardy where the villa is located has an abundance of old churches and historical holy sites, one such being the startlingly beautiful Chiesa di San Giorgio di Cola. Nestled on a mountaintop, it lies just a 10 minute journey away by car in nearby Nevate Mezzola.
Walk or cycle along the local Tracciolino trail, a route that connects Verceia with nearby Novate Merzola. A genuinely unique scenic path, this trail includes tunnels, lush valleys with rare plants, and even a miniature train!
The ever-impressive metropolis of Milan is around an hour and 45 minutes away in the car where you can shop ‘til you drop and dine out in style, or you could always take a trip to the lakeside city of Como itself, a little over an hour’s drive from the villa. Here you will be rewarded with architectural delights such as the Basilica di Sant’Abbondio and the gothic marvel that is the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, or simply wander the city’s colourful streets and squares to your heart’s content. For culture vultures, Como’s opera house Teatro Sociale is a neo-classical marvel and features performances throughout the year.
Naturally, you cannot think of the Lombardy region without its wonderful cuisine also coming to mind. Aromatic risotto made with locally grown rice and lake-caught fish, served with grilled polenta, would be perfectly matched with a local fine wine such as a Soave or Asti Spumante, perhaps finishing with a resca sweetbread, a specialty of the region.
Lake Como itself offers a wealth of activities and sites, including boat hire and boat tours, pedalo hire, romantic shoreside promenades, grand palazzos right on the lake, and even fishing tours. Just be sure to ask the local tackle shops and tour companies about obtaining a one day licence before you haul in that big catch!
Please note this villa is located on the shores of Lake Mezzola and is approximately 35km from Lake Como.

Region
Nestled in the picturesque Lombardy region of northern Italy, Lake Como is a true gem, known for its breathtaking natural beauty, charming villages, and historic allure. This enchanting destination has long been a playground for the rich and famous, but its appeal extends far beyond the glittering surface. With its stunning Alpine backdrop and crystal-clear waters, Lake Como offers a mesmerising escape for all who visit.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesClose by the villa at only a 5-minute walk away is an artisan bakery, where eyes are sure to grow bigger than stomachs at the towering confections of delicious delights. Why not pick up a sweet treat after taking the kids to Galleria di Mina, a local tourist attraction less than 10 minutes on foot from the villa? This ‘secret’ tunnel, built during the Great War, once housed explosives, as well as several hidden bedrooms!
Around a 40-minute drive away, Lake Como Adventure park is bound to be a hit with little ones and teenagers alike. Featuring trails, zip lines, themed ‘rickety’ bridges and with each trail catering to different ages, there is something for everyone. As with all children’s parks, its best to check opening times before you go.
A little over an hour and a half from the villa by car (be sure to check the route for tolls before you set off!) is Fattoria Pasqué, a farm with a playground, archery range and a family friendly restaurant where you can enjoy lunch after looking at donkeys, ponies, rabbits, sheep and chickens.
