Sitting on a hill overlooking a pretty hamlet and the historic Oltrepò Pavese wine region is Castello Torretta. This 12th century castle has been lovingly renovated, creating a beautiful place to spend a holiday with family or friends.
There is ample space on offer at this stunning home set over three floors. With multiple living spaces and six bedrooms as well as a large landscaped garden, the house can comfortably sleep up to thirteen guests.
On the lower ground floor, you can find one of the best-preserved rooms in the castle. This charming room with vaulted, brick ceilings and antique furnishings is a taverna which is used for wine tastings and atmospheric candle-lit dinners.
On the ground floor, the living and dining spaces continue; there is a vast formal living room with a grand piano, a smaller living room, a TV room and a library. Following on from here is a fully-fitted kitchen and a lovely dining room where guests can tuck in to a delicious buffet breakfast prepared daily by the chefs. If you wish to truly unwind you can also add in dinner made by the chefs and indulge in a seasonal menu made with fresh local produce.
The first floor is where you will find all of the bedrooms as well as another living room. Here there are three double-ensuite bedrooms. A further two double rooms and a bedroom with three single beds are served by a large family bathroom. Whichever bedroom you choose, you will be sure of a great night’s sleep in sumptuous surroundings as the rooms offer warm and welcoming tones, parquet flooring and attractive art work and linens, with some of the rooms boasting balconies too.
Outdoors, the hilltop garden is enclosed by neat rows of hedges which create a tranquil oasis above the small village. Towering trees, floral planting and fountains fill the grounds, making this the perfect spot for a restful day in the sun. Guests can also make use of the private swimming pool and dine outdoors on the terrace. Not to mention the guesthouse which comfortably sleeps an additional eight guests in four double-ensuite bedrooms.
This area of Lombardy is dotted with character-filled villages and towns you can explore, such as the closest village Casteggio which is 8km away and the larger town of Voghera is 19km away. The gorgeous city of Pavia, the capital of the region is a wonderful place to spend the day and is set 28km away.
Around the home you are also perfectly placed for spending time in nature. Whether you would prefer a scenic walk amidst the nearby country lanes, a hike through the Po River Valley or an adrenaline fuelled bike ride, there are plenty of opportunities to explore the natural landscape. Guided tours and wine tastings at local vineyards, horse treks through the hills and golf are also all available within the 20km surrounding the villa.

- The villa sits on a hill looking over a small village, so there a few homes nearby but this should not cause disturbance.
- In order to see more of Lombardy and neighbouring Emilia-Romagna, guests will need a car. There is parking available in the grounds.
- Please note that the 13-person price includes 6 bedrooms (castle only) while the 20-person price includes the guesthouse (12 bedrooms in total). The guesthouse is attached to the villa but can only be accessed externally. Please see the 'Features' tab for further details.
- When booking the 21-person price, a chef for dinner service is included in your stay (excluding grocery expenses). If booking the 13-person price, a chef can be arranged upon request, subject to an additional fee.

About the surrounding area of Castello TorreIt is hard to imagine a better place to stay to experience this beautiful and ancient part of Lombardy than a medieval castle! Here you can get to know more about the area’s rich history; the conquests and battles and the long tradition of wine making from your base within a building which has stood on this leafy hillside for eight centuries. With idyllic villages, bustling towns and countryside walking trails to explore nearby, this is the perfect place for a memorable holiday in Northern Italy.If you wish to get out and discover this verdant landscape, you will be spoilt for choice as there are an abundance of hiking and walking routes just a stone’s throw away from the villa. You can opt to stroll amongst the vineyards which wind their way up the hillside, take a picnic down to the banks of the Po River or maybe head up some of the many hills and small peaks which litter this area and eventually become The Alps. Montalto Pavese for example is 7km away and offers many routes of varying difficulty. If you would like to explore on a bicycle then rental can be arranged at the villa.Everywhere you look in the fields and valleys surrounding the home, you will see the vineyards which make up the Oltrepò Pavese wine region. The vines have been here since the Roman era and have thrived due to the rich soil and fantastic climate. Pinot Noir is the speciality here and you can sample this along with other wines in wineries and vineyards near to the villa. Monsupello Eredi is one vineyard which is just 3.5km away from the home and offers tours of the grounds, cellars and production areas along with tastings of the wines paired with cheeses and cured meats.When you wish to dine out or pick up some groceries, you will have a number of villages and towns to choose from. The closest village with a good selection of shops and eateries is Casteggio which is 8km away. The village is home to supermarkets, cafes and bistros which you can visit for a traditional Italian meal. Additionally, the village has a number of historic attractions including staggering churches like the Chiesa Parrocchiale del Sacro Cuore and the Castello Beccaria which is a castle with well-preserved interiors. You can also take in some history and culture at the civic museum and the archaeological museum.Voghera is another place you could visit for a spot of shopping or lunch in a bustling square. The town is 19km away by car. Voghera is a lovely city which is surrounding by tranquil countryside and is less crowded than some other cities which are on well-known tourist trails. When spending a day in Voghera you can sample authentic local dishes and get to know the town at your own pace. The cathedral here is a popular attraction; this gorgeous 17th century building is filled with intricate carvings and paintings by Rodolfo Gambini. You can also visit another medieval castle while in town; Castello Visconteo which was constructed in 1367. There is also a natural history museum, a local history museum and even a cowboy theme park here! You will have plenty to see and do when visiting for the day.If you do not mind travelling further for a day trip then you could drive to Piacenza which is 50km away or you could even visit the incredible city of Milan which is 68km away.

After a few days of exploring peaceful villages and historic sites, the kids may wish to blow of some steam and indulge in a fun-filled day out. A great place you could take them is Cowboyland, a theme park which is set 20km away from the villa. This brilliant park is the only western themed theme park in Italy and has plenty for your whole party to do. There are cowboy themed rides, shows, pony rides, playgrounds and even restaurants to keep you entertained all day.
