Nikiana is a delightful, unspoilt tourist resort with stunning scenery, sand and pebble beaches and a pretty harbour. Guests enjoy delicious cuisine in the local tavernas. It is brilliantly situated between Lefkada Town and Nidri.

The nearby resort of Lygia offers a small pebble beach and a busy fishing port which is surrounded by gorgeous fish tavernas, cafes and restaurants. Lygia was formally known for its salt production. Opposite the islet of the salt pans Alexandros, there is a medieval fortress.

Nidri, the largest of the tourist towns just to the south of the villa offers amazing amenities, irresistible sandy beaches, unforgettable views across the islets of Heloni, Sparti, Madouri and Scorpios, gastronomic delights, incredible scenery including famous waterfalls and the Dimosari Gorge and a fantastic dining scene. Nidri and Sivota are favourites with yacht charter firms. Island hopping is very popular, very easy and very enjoyable. Excursion boats take visitors to the local islets and the secluded coastal bays of Lefkas.  Ferries go to Ithaca and Kefalonia. The gorgeous Geni peninsula is a ten minute drive from the villa. Geni village is a friendly, traditional fishing village where you will be made to feel very welcome in its charming waterfront tavernas.

Lefkada Town is buzzy, picturesque and brilliant for evening strolls, shopping and dining. The town is brimming with charming, narrow alleys, small vibrant squares, elaborate belfries and paved pedestrian areas. If you happen to see the procession of the Philharmonic of Lefkada along the main street, you should know that you are enjoying the oldest cultural society of the island the and second oldest philharmonic of Greece. The town is surrounded by a canal and a lagoon. Further north is Gyra, a thin stretch of sandy beach that forms a circle and is sprinkled with pretty windmills.

Lefkada is a beautiful, lush green island blessed with captivating Blue Flag beaches, picturesque Greek villages, archaeological sights and gorgeous unspoilt countryside sprinkled with olive groves, lush pine and cypress forests, beautiful waterfalls, dramatic gorges and one thousand metre mountain peaks. Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a long causeway and floating bridge. It is an easy drive from Preveza airport. Among the island’s most beautiful beaches are Egremni, Kathisma and the mesmerising Porto Katsiki which is loved for its golden sands and fascinating landscape. The unique beauty of Egremni’s 2.5 km beach has made it one of the most photographed landscapes on the island. Its name comes from the impressive cliffs that surround the beach. Kathisma Beach faces the Ionian archipelago, offering fine dazzling white sand, sparkling turquoise waters and a good selection of beach bars and sun loungers. The best beaches for windsurfing and kitesurfing are Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki. Nidri also boasts a very organised beach with an excellent watersports centre. When staying on the island, visitors enjoy delicious Greek cuisine, plenty of fresh fish, gorgeous local wines and moreish ouzo.

The mountain village of Karya, is lovely with its central square full of taverna tables under the shade of a huge plant tree. Visitors enjoy the local Karysaniki embroidery, once a vital part of the national dress. North-east of Karya and surrounded by towering cypress trees, mountain scenery and craggy cliffs is Lazarata. There are two notable churches, Agios Dionissis and Agios Spiridonas. Lazarata is a great place for a stroll to enjoy the neat vineyards, olive groves, citrus plantations and the red-roofed houses. You can take an organised mountain bike tour of the island, a great way to see the island from a different perspective. Some cycling tours also include the stunning neighbouring island of Meganisi.

The pretty, whitewashed church of Agios Ioannis Antzoussis dates back to the 16th century and is one of the oldest churches in Lefkada. There are some fascinating archeological, historical and cultural sites to visit on this very special island. Wine lovers enjoy Lefkada Earth, the home of some fine local wines. You can combine this stop with a fresh seafood lunch overlooking the brilliant blue waters at Sivota or Vasiliki.

Villa Alyna is ideal for a family holiday so long as you do not have very young children. Children love their beach days on the golden sandy beaches of Lefkas. The warm turquoise sea is very inviting. Most of the beaches backed by a beautiful, verdant mountainous landscape which make them look even more beautiful. There is a good variety of watersports on many beaches. The sunsets are pretty spectacular too. Porto Katsiki Beach is often called the ‘Maldives of Europe’ because of its immense beauty. Egremni Beach is another much-loved beach. Some of the boat trips include barbecues and most include swimming and snorkeling.

  • Beautiful villa!

    on 28/08/2023

Beautiful villa, very well furnished, lovely view, pool and grounds; sheltered outdoor seating.
Beautiful location, quiet but walkable to village and beach (quite steep in places). A welcome pack with some nice local produce was included. A very minor point is that there was a slight lack of general provisions of household items, however extra cutlery was asked for and provided promptly during the stay.
