Overview

Pool Villa/House Modern Self-Catered Ideal for Kids Hot Tub Walk to Beach Walk to Village Parking Space

Staying is believing when you vacation in the incredible Villa Oinos, overlooking the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, on the north coast of the Greek island of Crete. This three-storey, detached villa has six spacious double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to fifteen guests, ideal for a large family gathering, or a group of friends’ get-together. The architect-designed Villa Oinos is built into the verdant slopes of the holiday hot spot of Platanias, set in its own enclosed grounds, and tiered gardens, with a superb infinity swimming pool. The villa comes complete with secure parking, complimentary air conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout, a central music system, gym, Jacuzzi, games room, and basketball court.

The modern property is constructed out of classic Mediterranean whitewashed walls, with floor-to-ceiling windows, that flood the villa with natural light, and give access to sea-view terraces. The interiors are super stylish, furnished with designer contemporary pieces, lots of funky art and artefacts, and decorated in a colour palette of crisp whites, hues of blues, and splashes of primary colours. The vibe is a laid-back, luxury holiday home from home.

Enter the villa at ground floor level, where you will be welcomed by a light and airy open plan living space, with breath-taking panoramic sea views. The seating area has a large white L-shaped sofa, a matching pouffe and armchair, a Corbusier chair, a flatscreen television, and a Majorelle blue panel with graphic art and an enclosed wood-burning fire for those cooler months and evenings. The state-of-the-art, beige and brown kitchen is fully equipped with all the latest appliances which you will need to cater for your holiday. There are two adjacent six-seater dining sets, and a breakfast bar with stools, perfect for a family breakfast. If you want to work on holiday, there is an office corner with a desk and chair. The first of the six well-appointed bedrooms can be found on the ground floor. The Master bedroom has a large double bed and a big ensuite bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath. The second bedroom has a double bed with a balcony, and there is a separate shower room.

Take the stairs to the upper floor, where there are two bedrooms, both with double beds, sharing a balcony with magnificent mountain views, and a separate shower room.  The lower level is home to a bedroom with a double bed and a sofa bed for one guest, a second bedroom with a double bed, and a shared shower room. There is a games room with a sofa bed for two guests, a satellite TV with Netflix, a DVD player, a billiard and ping-pong table, and a PlayStation to keep everyone occupied. Keep fit in the gym, and there’s laundry for a holiday wash.

Step onto the tiled terrace and be wowed by the uninterrupted sea views. A long, ninety square metre, ladder entry, the infinity swimming pool takes centre stage. The pool is surrounded by inviting sun loungers with shady parasols, a hammock, and a swing seat. The soft seating spot is perfectly positioned to capture those mesmerising sea views. Children can amuse themselves in the dedicated playground, the gorgeous grounds and gardens, and shoot a few hoops on the basketball court. As dusk falls take a stool at the outdoor bar, and enjoy a sundowner or two, before dining alfresco under the purpose-built pergola, with dishes specially prepared in the summer kitchen, and grilled on the barbeque.

Villa Oinos is nestled in the heart of nature, surrounded by ancient vineyards and olive groves, overlooking the azure waters of the Aegean Sea, yet only minutes away from the holiday hot spot of Platanias, on the north coast of the Greek island of Crete. The villa is twenty-two kilometres from Chania International Airport, a half-hour journey through the Cretan countryside to your holiday home from home. Provisions for your holiday and the nearest restaurants are a few steps from Villa Oinos, whilst the beach is but five hundred metres from the sandy shores of Platanias.

The soft sandy beaches of nearby Gerani, Agioi Apostoli, and Agia Marina, have easy shallow entry into the calm Aegean Sea, organised sunbeds with shady brollies, lined with family-friendly cafes and tavernas and water sports, most notably wind and kitesurfing. Platanias is full of fabulous souvenir shops and supermarkets, romantic seafront restaurants, bars, beaches, and clubs that turn day into night for some fun after dark. The medieval town of Chania is a fifteen minutes drive from the villa. Stroll down to the old Venetian port and harbour, see them haul in the catch of the day, visit the Maritime and Archeological Museums, seek solace in the Greek Orthodox Church of Agios Nikolaos, bargaining in the local market, then dine off freshly caught seafood by the sea shore. For those who love walking, explore the three hundred caves the island hides, hike over hillsides, streams, and rocky ravines to discover watermills and ruins, or take a stroll around the nearby Botanical Gardens and the water springs of Lake Agia.

The ancient town and port of Heraklion is a two-hour drive away, take a tour around the Palace of Knossos, visit the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, walk the Venetian walls, meander through the old quarter, and shop for souvenirs, before enjoying an ouzo like a local. Go further afield to Vai, Crete’s easternmost tip, where you will find lush forests and a unique date palm. Explore Psychro Cave, reputedly the birthplace of Zeus, and rock climb Mount Ida to find the Ideon Cave. Sitia Geopark is three hundred and fifty square kilometres of the island’s diverse ecosystem, where you can trek through gorges, bathe on beaches, walk the wetlands, and bird watching. Hike the Richtis Gorge, stroll through streams to reach the twenty-metre waterfall, where you can cool off in the inviting pool.

All aboard for a day at sea, where you can sunbathe, snorkel, and scuba dive underwater ruins. Take the ferry to the intriguing island of Spinalonga, once a former leper colony and home to a Venetian fortress, and now an open-air museum. No visit to Crete is complete without a trip to Agios Nikolaos, a harbour town that uniquely houses a lake in its centre, with an Archaeological Museum of Minoan treasures, and tavernas, shops, bars, and restaurants, in which to sit and watch the local life go by. If you’ve done all that, you’ve earned yourself a wine tour, where you can sample the local harvest, and take a bottle or two home with you.

How to reach Chania

There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane:
Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.

By ferry:
If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There’s lots for your kids to do when you stay on the Cretan coast. Starting with the villa’s private swimming pool, where they can play and splash all day. The villa has a high walled garden with a fun children’s playground, and a basketball court, where they can safely play. Indoors there is a games room with a large screen TV and DVD player where they can watch their favourite films, a ping pong and billiard table, and that must-have PlayStation.

The nearest beach is within walking distance, a five-hundred-metre stroll will take you to the sandy shores of the tourist resort of Platanias, and all the family-friendly activities it has to offer. Slightly further away and highly recommended for families are the beautiful beaches of Gerani, Agioi Apostoloi, and Agia Marina. Chania is a fifteen-minute drive from the villa, where there are tennis clubs and riding stables. Visit the old town of Chania, wander the ancient streets, where your kids can take part in the Scavenger Hunt challenge, and discover local landmarks by following clues and maps on their smartphones. Go down to Chania harbour for a family day at sea, swim and snorkel in local bays, and enjoy a traditional meze lunch on the boa, or charter a yacht with a captain and cook, and sail until the sun sets. Further afield the north coast of Crete is populated with family-friendly beaches, offering a selection of water sports, including banana boat rides, stand-up paddle boarding, and speedy jet skis. There are plenty of organised day trips too, leave from Chania town, or hire a car and go exploring.

Spend the day sunbathing on the stunning pink sands of Elafonisi, an area of protected wildlife and beauty. Bathe in the Balos Lagoon, and swim or sail out to sea to the island of Gramvousa, where you will find an old Venetian Castle and a cave that is believed to be an ancient shipyard. Get those legs walking with a fifteen-kilometre hike to Samaria Gorge, Europe’s longest gorge, and spot the local flora and fauna, and the famous Kri-Kri goats. There’s a shortened version of the walk starting at the village of Agia Roumeli, which is only three kilometres long. Limnoupolis Water Park is the perfect place to take the kids, with a lazy river, extreme slides, swimming pools galore, a children’s playground, and cafes and bars.

All the family can enjoy a day learning how to make traditional Greek jars at pottery classes, or mezes at cookery classes. Take a Jeep Safari cross-country on rough roads and discover traditional Greek villages and a taste of authentic Crete. For the dare-devils, take them tandem para-gliding with professional instructors. Wind down in the evening at the Minoan’s World 3D Museum and 9D Movie Cinema, and don’t forget to sample the local ice cream.
