Just over 1km away from the bustling Cours Mirabeau in the centre of Aix-en-Provence, this 4-bedroom home is the perfect base for exploring the city and the surrounding countryside of Provence.

Villa Calvinus is a spacious family home with an open-plan living area, four lovely bedrooms and three bathrooms. The house has been decorated in clean neutral tones and offers quality furnishings as well as all of the conveniences you could need such as Wi-Fi and air conditioning.

The villa is located within a quiet residential area, ideal for a getaway with family or a few couples travelling together. Being just outside of the city centre also means the villa has a fantastic south-facing garden with lawned areas and space for outdoor dining.

There are a number of shops and restaurants on your doorstep and everything else you could need in the city centre which is 1km away! Just a mere 5 minutes by car or a 15-minute walk away you will be able to shop for groceries in shops or markets and find a little spot for dinner.

Aix-en-Provence is a beautiful city which dates back to the Roman era but is largely made up of Renaissance and Baroque architecture. The huge main street, the tree-lined Cours Mirabeau, is the heart of the city and the cobbled streets of the gorgeous Old Town lead off from here. Mostly pedestrianised, this area is a lovely place to wander around while looking out for some of the famous fountains and having a coffee in a charming square. Saint-Sauveur Cathedral is one of the must-see sights of Aix, this vast medieval Cathedral was constructed in parts over hundreds of years and towers over the city, an audio guide tour will give insight into the history as you look around. The city is also known as the birthplace of artist Cézanne and is a fantastic place for art-lovers to visit as you can see his studio, childhood home and also a number of galleries housing other works of art.

You do not have to travel far outside of the city to reach the rolling hills and lavender fields that Provence is known for and there is lots you can do to get out and enjoy nature from hiking to tours of nearby vineyards!

If you wish to head to the coast for the day then one of the nearest beaches, Estaque Beach is just 33km away and a few minutes further down the coast is the bustling port city of Marseilles. Take a day trip to Marseilles for the stunning array of beaches but also the tasty food and the fun, multicultural buzz that the city has.

Aix-en-Provence in the South of France is a great location for a holiday; with all the amenities, art and culture in the city, surrounding countryside and nearby beaches there is something for everyone.

Villa Calvinus is situated just approximately 1.5km away from the centre of Aix-en-Provence, 15-minutes walking or 5-minutes by car. With the city centre so near, it is handy for shopping or popping out for lunch but is also filled with attractions to keep you busy all day.

Aix-en-Provence is a paradise for art lovers; from the famous Granet museum and Cézanne’s home and studio to trendy street art and photography galleries, there is a wide range of art on display. The city itself is known to be an inspiration to artists and with pretty streets lined with towering mansions and leafy parks everywhere you look, it is clear why. Known as the city of 1000 fountains, you are sure to find a fountain round every corner which adds charm to this lovely place, look out for La Rotunde which is the most famous of the fountains.

You are likely to spend plenty of time wandering up and down the 440 meter long Cours Mirabeau, the historic main street in the middle of town. You could spend all day just on this street; shopping in little boutiques, picking up local produce at the incredible markets and enjoying a pastry outside of a street-side café. Head out from Cours Mirabeau to find a wealth of religious buildings, museums and historic villas as well as countless eateries and wine bars.

If you bring a car then head out in to the surrounding countryside; olive groves, fields of lavender and vineyards make up the beautiful and varied landscape. A great place to visit is one of the many country houses with expansive formal gardens, such as Romégas Gardens. 15km away from the villa this 17th century house and gardens is a picturesque retreat from the city where you can spend the day admiring the gorgeous grounds and find your way through the maze. Alternatively, you could visit a vineyard such as Château La Coste which is a large, historic estate with vineyards which hosts wine tours and workshops. There are also stunning gardens and restaurants to enjoy after your wine tasting.

The city of Marseille is also a brilliant place to visit for the day and is just 35km away. This port city has a completely different feel to it than Aix-en-Provence and lots to see so is well worth a visit. Also, along Marseille’s coastline you will find many fantastic white sand beaches which can be reached in just over half an hour!
