Maison Amande enjoys a wonderful hillside setting within Provence with magical views looking towards L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.

Just 4km away, this fabulous market town is famous for its antiques. Every Sunday hundreds of sellers set up stalls or open shops attracting international clientele and the Easter and August antiques fairs are especially renowned.

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is also home to many wonderful galleries and holds exhibitions in the Campredon Centre d’Art. The town sits on the Sorgue River with numerous canals and branches flowing through the town giving it the nickname ‘Venice of Provence’. There are many mill wheels along the canal adding character and interest. It makes for a pretty waterside dining scene. Also notable in the town is the Notre-Dame-des Anges Collegiate Church, a fabulous blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture. In the summer, the town hosts a floating market, another great attraction.

The charming French village of Gordes (21km) also sits within very easy reach. Gordes’ Tuesday morning market is a perfect place to pick up local produce and a few souvenirs. Gordes boasts pretty narrow alleyways lined with charming restaurants and cafes as well as a fragrant bakery and food stores. On the Luberon plain, the village enjoys superb views. Gordes is dominated by its wonderful church and castle. The village has a fascinating history - during World War II it was mostly destroyed and the villagers massacred. The whole village was awarded the Croix de Guerre medal.

The stunning Senanque Abbey is located on the outskirts of Gordes, 23km away from the house. It has become a real Instagram-friendly spot due to the beautiful lavender field that surrounds the abbey. Be sure to take some treasured family photos during your visit.

The town of Cavaillon (14km) is renowned for its melons which are sold at the local market. Merchants here will teach you how to choose the best of the bunch, which you can then take home and enjoy by the pool!

No visit to Provence is complete without visiting the historic city of Avignon (30km). It boasts a great selection of shops, restaurants, museums and galleries as well as a vibrant atmosphere. It’s UNESCO-listed attractions are also not to be missed. Visit the Papal Palace and the Pont St Benezet to discover Avignon’s colourful past.

Van Gogh’s beloved Arles is 60km away while the ancient city of Nîmes, which features well-preserved Roman monuments, is 75km from Maison Amande.
