Hidden amongst country lanes, near the small town of Le Thoureil, you will find Villa Turavent, a spacious villa sleeping eight guests. Villa Turavent resides on the top floor of a large manor house, surrounded by open fields, hedgerows and nearby woodland. The Manor House is built in light sand-coloured stone walls, with ivy framing doorways and windows, blending in with the countryside setting.

The villa maintains its history as original features have remained in place, including oak beams, stone walls and wooden floorboards. However, the villa also has modern luxuries, making your stay comfortable while blending in with the historic features. One corner of the villa blends traditional and modern features; a glass floor corridor leads to a window looking out over the fields and woodland.

As you enter the villa you are guided to an open living room, with a dining table, kitchen and lounge. Make this stay effortless and opt for a grocery delivery, an optional extra when you book your stay. You can unpack your bags and start your holiday while your shopping is done and delivered to your door.

There are four bedrooms within the villa. Each bedroom has open brick walls, with plenty of space, decorated with soft textures. Windows let in an abundance of natural light and frame the countryside views like paintings on the wall. Each room has a queen-size bed with linen sheets, a soft duvet, and a quality mattress. The villa has three bathrooms, a mixture of family bathrooms and an ensuite.

A covered, heated swimming pool lies within the villa. Soft overhead lighting and dark wooden beams are great for you to use for a slow swim in the afternoon or an energising morning dip. Pool towels are provided, as well as bathroom towels saving room in your suitcase. Book a masseuse or yoga instructor to visit the villa for you to unwind even more.

Outside, a deck lies to one side of the villa, offering a quiet corner to enjoy your morning coffee and listen to the birds sing. The villa also has a BBQ area and a brazier terrace for alfresco dining while enjoying the setting sun. In the garden, relax on wooden sun loungers facing the sun, perfect for soaking up the sunshine.

Or take a walk around the 600-acre oak grove and farmland surrounding the villa, soaking in the sunshine and the fresh air. If you want to go further afield and tour the local area, high bikes and chase each other down the country lanes, storing them securely in the villa's bike storage. The villa has private parking so you can hire a car, which is a great way to see more of France. You can take the train to Paris from Angers or you could even drive, taking about 2 and a half hours.

Villa Turavent is located in Maine-et-Loire, within the Loire Valley in Western France. Villa Turavent is within 40 acres of oak groves and fields, a part of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine National Park. Trails and activities fill Loire-Anjou-Touraine, and there are many ways to explore them such as hiking, horse riding, or bike rides. Vineyards are scattered in the region, with wine tours and tastings the best way to sample the local grapes. Taste the local cuisine and visit Michelin-star restaurants and quality bistros all within a 30-minute drive from the villa. A golf course is also nearby for those wanting to improve their game under the French sunshine.

See the French countryside from a different perspective, from the waters of river Loire. You will love meandering down the river on a kayak, riverboat tour or cruise in a traditional barge. It may be worth booking a river excursion before arrival, especially in the summer, as kayak tours can book quickly.

For those who want to see the sights, hire a hot air balloon to glide over the river Loire and the neighbouring landscape. Watch the world pass by below you on a breathtaking tour. Each company offers a different experience, so have a look around to see what you would like to get out of your excursion.

There are plenty of castles, villages, and art to experience in the Loire valley. Close to the villa is Hélice Terrestre of l'Orbière, a troglodyte village dating back to the middle ages. Open from April to November,  the village is a series of caves where hermits and a small community lived for hundreds of years.

See brilliant sand sculptures in Les Troglos de la Sabliere, a short car journey from the villa, near Doue-la-Fontaine. Here you will find contemporary sculptures created within a historical site, blending history with modern art. Take a guided tour and discover fossils, cave dwellings, an old underground bistro as well as contemporary artwork underneath the surface.

Head towards civilisation and explore the city of Angers, located north of the villa, on the edge of the Loire Valley. The castle Angers is the largest fortress castle in France and a great place for a family day out. The castle dates back six thousand years and has remarkable gardens, a tapestry from the 13th century and dungeons, all for you to explore. You will love stepping into French history that made France the country it is today.  Kids will love running through the ruins, imagining how it was in its glory days and battling dragons as they go. Explore the streets surrounding the castle, visiting the bistros, cafés and shops of Angers.

With so much to see and do, you will need to book another week to see it all.

  • Very Welcoming

    on 09/09/2023

The owner has been very welcoming and has taken great care of us. From taking us out to a local restaurant when we arrived late with no provisions, to providing lots of information about what to do and where to go, to get the best from our holiday.

  • We will be back!

    on 29/08/2023

Our three-generation family of eight had a great 8 days. The home is beautiful and feels remote. But it is close to towns and amenities and interesting historical places. The host was very friendly and helped us make priorities. We will be back! Which is my highest recommendation!

  • Beautiful home

    on 07/08/2023

The host is extremely attentive and hands on with lots of recommendations and always on hand to make suggestions or help out. The home is beautiful and very well maintained. The setting is very picturesque and peaceful and the welcome drinks and croissants were a lovely touch.

  • An oasis!

    on 22/05/2023

There are many things I could say about the property, but words cannot describe how amazing it is. You just have to see and experience it for yourself. The host is fantastic. Everything was in the details. It's almost like you have a concierge service. As someone who lives a busy life, this space/town was exactly everything I desired. Also the availability of having a massage therapist come multiple days was the best. I cannot recommend this oasis enough.

Séjour agréable dans un cadre magnifique et reposant. L'hôte et sa famille sont très sympathique.
Le gite est charmant et possède tous le confort nécessaires.
Une adresse que nous recommandons sans hésiter !

  • Like living in a fairytale

    on 27/04/2023

Villa Turavent is a unique gem tucked into a quiet corner within the Loire valley. The home is an amazing experience, an ancient space beautifully decorated with some modern touches to complement the wood and stone - some reclaimed from Notre Dame. The shower was fantastic plenty of hot water and plenty of pressure. The host was an absolute delight. We were happy he spent some time with us and shared some wine and stories. This home is so close to so many great castles and points of interest, small local towns, magical places - the whole experience was like living in a fairytale. Highly recommend.

  • Exceeded expectations

    on 19/09/2022

We travel a fair bit and have stayed at numerous very nice and cool places before but this tops the list. Absolutely unique, very comfortable, beautiful and inspiring as described and presented. Quick turnaround and very responsive from first contact. We received great advice on to do's, restaurants and excursions, and enjoyed the warm hospitality that made us feel at home from the first moment until the very end. All in all a true gem, exceeding expectations that made our stay simply the best. Thank you for all, we certainly want and will come back again.

  • Wonderful relaxing stay

    on 16/08/2022

We stayed at Villa Turavent for 5 days in August with our 3 teens and had a wonderful relaxing time. The location is unique, total peace and quiet guaranteed, ideal to disconnect from a hectic lifestyle, surrounded by fields, forests and troglodyte caves. The grounds are stunning and the kids enjoined the refreshing pool and evening walks through the fields and forests.

The house is a beautiful old manor with lots of character, very comfortable and tastefully decorated. It is ideally situated to discover the banks of the Loire and Saumur, Angers, Brissac. There are so many gems in the area (and in only 1 hr 20 mins you are in Chenonceau and Amboise).

The host was most attentive. Always ready to help, surprised us with croissants and baguettes in the morning, treated us to welcome drinks on the large terrace where we gazed at the most impressive canopy of stars (no light pollution at all). He is ready to recommend activities, sites, restaurants, wine producers etc... and even calls ahead to book for you. He tells the most entertaining stories too! We had a wonderful stay discovering the region and can't wait to be back.
