Wrapped in woodland, with a river meandering through and its very own boating pond, Villa Forêt is a rural idyll for those seeking tranquillity in a glorious region not far from the beautiful town of Chartres.
Set in ten hectares of parkland, Villa Forêt is a joy whatever time of year with its great natural beauty. Enjoy long walks through the forest, get lost in the maze, find a quiet spot by the edge of the water or head out on the rowing boat to spot fish in the large pond. Keen nature lovers can admire the flora and fauna whilst fitness enthusiasts can jog along the many trails of the vast grounds and beyond. Badminton, archery, boules and spikeball are all available to keep everyone entertained or you may just prefer to truly relax in the sunshine with outdoor furnishings scattered around during the warm summer months.
The villa itself is just as wonderful with its warm ambience. The large living and dining area is a welcoming space with its cosy sofas by the fireplace, elegant bar and dining area by the large picture-book windows. The TV lounge and billiards room add to the sense of style whilst the large kitchen is fully equipped for every occasion. The villa offers five lovely bedrooms on the first and second floors, all south-facing with king-size beds and most with an en suite bathroom, as well as other flexible spaces allowing plenty of room for up to 17 guests.
A sweet cottage next door, attached to the villa, can also be booked for larger groups with four additional bedrooms as well as a lounge and kitchen. Whether a family reunion, a holiday with friends or a once-in-a-lifetime event, up to 25 people can comfortably stay in this fantastic abode.
On the edge of the Parc Naturel Régional du Perche, visit timeless villages, dine in charming restaurants, boat along pretty rivers and admire the cultural heritage of the region with châteaux, abbeys and historic towns. The local town of Brou is especially delightful with its half-timbered houses, covered weekly market and picturesque setting on the River Ozanne whilst Bonneval, often referred to as ‘little Venice’, is an idyllic place to hire electric boats along the waterways.
Nogent-le-Rotrou is another fine town with its fortified castle or spend a brilliant day in the grand town of Chartres admiring its amazing cathedral, beautiful parks and riverside setting. You could even drive across to Le Mans, around an hour away, to discover yet more historic beauty in the city known for its famous 24-hr race.
Wherever you spend your time exploring, you will appreciate returning to the quiet and welcoming surroundings of Villa Forêt in its exceptional setting in the Eure-et-Loir region of central France.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa Foret40km south-west of Chartres, around an hour east of Le Mans and just ninety minutes from Paris, discover the gentle and beautiful landscapes of the Perche region with its pretty villages, fascinating heritage, increasing number of artisan shops as well as wonderful forests ready to be explored by foot, bike or horse-back.
Villa Forêt is set in 10 hectares of vast parkland featuring woodland, a tranquil pond and a small river running through the grounds. There are numerous walking, jogging or cycling trails around the estate and beyond, especially as you drive into the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional du Perche.
There is a small village 6km away with a shop, café-bar, restaurant and castle or drive a little further to the very attractive town of Brou (12km) on the River Ozanne with its lovely weekly covered market, half-timbered houses, old wash houses as well as some good restaurants and café-bars (including French whisky specialists).
Illiers-Combray (10km) is home to the nearest large supermarket and the town itself is a pleasant place to visit. The author, Marcel Proust, used to spend his holidays here and nowadays visitors can wander around the tranquil Pré-Catelan Garden or pop into to the Musée Marcel Proust in his aunt’s former home.
Spend time exploring the magnificent landscapes of the Parc Naturel Régional du Perche and visit gorgeous villages such as Nogent-le-Rotrou (27km) with its fortified château, Bellême (50km) with its surrounding oak and beech forest and the small medieval town of Mortagne-au-Perche, an hour away, famous for its boudin noir, a type of black pudding.
Driving south, Bonneval (28km) is known as the ‘Little Venice of Beauce’ with electric boat trips on the Loir River, a perfect way to admire the picturesque scenery in this historic village. Look out for canoe and kayak rental just outside the village centre.
Chartres (40km) is another fine day out, a town especially well-known for its mighty gothic cathedral, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. On the banks of the River Eure, it’s such a pretty place for wandering around, perusing its many shops and finding characterful restaurants for something to eat. If visiting on a Wednesday or Saturday morning, pick up some delicious food from the market at Place Billiards, then take a picnic in one of the parks and hire pedalos along the river. Festivities and events take place across the year including Chartres en Lumière from around April to late September when the town is magically lit up in the evening.
Finally, the world-famous racing event takes place every year in Le Mans (90km), a city which should also be admired for its historic character and beauty. Taking around an hour by car, potter around its cobbled lanes, passing 15th century houses and coming across excellent restaurants or atmospheric cafes.
If arriving by train, departures from Paris Montparnasse take approximately one hour to Chartres on the fastest service with further connections to various stations including Illiers-Combray, just 10km away.

Best Suited For: All AgesThe Perche region offers endless walking trails, cycling opportunities and horse-riding in this glorious part of France dotted with pretty villages, picturesque rivers, woodland and beautiful countryside.
Just outside the local town of Brou is a leisure park with an outdoor swimming pool and a golf-swing club, as well as a yachting club on the banks of the lake and tennis and horse-riding stables close by. Further north, around half an hour away near Fontaine-Simon, the Parc Aquatique du Perche is home to an indoor swimming pool and there is water-skiing on the lakes nearby.
Young children may also be enchanted by the pretty Marcel Proust Pré-Catelan Garden in Illiers-Combray or head to the gorgeous village of Bonneval for boating or kayaking along the river.
Hire pedaloes along the river in the historic town of Chartres, known for its mighty gothic cathedral, and spend time in one of its beautiful parks or take a tour of the centre by the little tourist road train. Also part of the town, L'Odyssée is a huge waterpark with an Olympic sized pool and ice-skating rink.
For something completely different, L’Escape at the Domaine de L’Abbaye in nearby Thiron-Gardais is a unique attraction for brave older children aged 10+.

The rural backdrop is simply idyllic and perfect for your wedding photos by the wooden bridge over the meandering river or beside the boating lake. Host a more intimate event inside the 19th century residence with its elegant adjoining reception spaces and bar or gather with family and friends across the vast grounds where a marquee can be installed.

What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
What we love is that sort of magic and serenity as we get in the forest through the gate and then discover the large space and the unexpected style of the house as well so many areas where everyone can find their way to relax, play or think (or doing nothing!)
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
Buying this property is part of our project to move from Paris to our country house which we owned for 15 years in the Perche region. After a fast-paced professional career, we set ourselves a challenge: to undertake a tourism project together. In 2019 we decided that our next life will be here.

Very strange speciality here in the Perche: le boudin! You can find this home made in every local shop and in Frazé (see guest book). Also the famous Madeleine pastry (Madeleine de Proust) from Illiers-Combray.

L’abbaye de Thiron Gardais, Frazé castle, and le pré catelan (remarkable garden belonging to Marcel Proust's uncle).
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
- Les Percherons (inhabitants of the Perche) are very very nice people and helpful. Don’t hesitate to ask for help. They will love giving you recommendations.
- Explore the village of Thiron-Gardais and its abbey, you may meet with famous Stéphane Bern. He is known as a specialist in nobility and royalty. He has been awarded honours by several nations, including the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (France), the Order of Grimaldi (Monaco), and the Order of the British Empire (United Kingdom).At the location of the cloister and monastic buildings, you can freely visit the Abbey Estate and its themed gardens associated with the recently restored tithe barn. Attached to the church, the old college created by the Mauritian religious around 1630 became a royal military college in 1776 and is today owned by Mr. Stéphane Bern, who recently opened a museum linked to history there.

A little gem in a natural setting
When we arrived with 6 families or 24 people at the villa it was wow from the little ones to
adults! A little gem in a natural setting: 1 pond, 1 river, large lawns, trees and the surrounding forest... Villa side: magnificent rooms with bathroom and shower, a
huge kitchen with everything you need for cooking, a billiard room, a TV lounge, a large room dining room with a great fireplace!
On the Cottage side, the teenagers took advantage of their independence and comfort. We took advantage of the
large terraces for large tables outside, a brazier and garden chairs. Outdoor evenings (we roasted marshmallows with the children) and facilities sports, 1 pétanque court, 1 pedal boat, 1 boat which allowed us to organize real family Olympics. There was something for everyone!
Not to mention the great welcome from Joëlle and Michel, a charming, very warm little couple who do everything
so that we have the best possible stay. Michel even did several cart rides as a ride for children. and the big ones.

Magnificent
We celebrated our wedding at the Villa Foret.
We had a sensational experience with our families and friends. The area is very green with a pond where you can go boating or pedal boating. The villa is magnificent, decorated with very good taste, rooms with several quality and magnificent beds decorated.
As for the owners Joëlle and Michel, they took great care so that we could celebrate our marriage in the best conditions. Their very warm welcome will not give you
want to leave the place, but rather to stay as if you were at home. -

It was beyond any of our expectation (and we had high). The owners are more than kind and very service oriented and they helped us planning our vacation and execute it in the best way. Everything is perfect
What other adjective to use than Perfect? I do not see.
Everything is perfect at the Villa Foret.
The hosts first of all, constantly kind, ensuring listening and monitoring from the pre-stay and during the stay at all times.
Then the frame. Absolute calm, magnificent and perfectly maintained park. The House, beautiful, huge, well equipped, very pleasant to live in.
“Kitchen” equipment, complete and of quality, is rare, so rare.
We had a wonderful week with family, friends and teenagers.
We can have great times all together, or in small groups or even isolate ourselves. You get relax, have fun, indoors and outdoors.
I can only highly recommend.

We loved spending a weekend in the villa for a birthday with all the family and friends.
The setting is wonderful and the villa is absolutely comfortable with careful decoration and very good

Seduced first by the photos of the site, arrival on site confirms the beauty of the site and the
refinement of the villa. Favourite guaranteed and the guests are also under the spell as soon as they
arrival. An unforgettable weekend for adults and children. Point of vigilance for the youngest because the
materials and decoration of the premises require close supervision! Thanks to Joelle and Michel
for their welcome, this corner of paradise will remain in our memories and we will most certainly be
tempted to go back one day! -
Perfect for go green
Modern, high-end villa in a vast park with a very pleasant little pond. Perfect for go green or indulge in the many activities that the site invites you to practice (football, ping-pong, archery...and so on!)
The interior of the villa is equipped with professional equipment (especially in the kitchen... and that is useful
when there are many of us!) and very beautifully crafted furniture.
The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and the bedding is impeccable (and that is much appreciated,
when we danced part of the night!)
Beyond all that, it was the welcome and trust of the owners of the place that allowed us to feel good there and have a great birthday party. Little or no negative elements to add. We just can't wait to go back! -
